They say the fattest people eat the most food. I disagree, it is people like you who sit at your computer and read the dumb crap bored people like me write. Yeah, you esat too much food. hehe... no not really, I just have 20 minutes before orchestart that I am going to dedictate to time wasting and blabbing on about how you eat too much food.

The Perfect Reed The versatility of the bassoon’s tonal palette lies mainly in the quality of the reed. The ability to adjust reeds to different demands placed on the performer by the composer and conductor is mark of a great reed maker. The main purpose of a reed is to make possible the production of an even scale, consistent tone, and clean articulation throughout the entire range of the bassoon. Every type of reed must adhere to these fundamentals. Certain areas of the reed need to be thicker than other regions by default. However, by manipulating the thickness of different spots in proportion to others, the reed maker is able to change the sound of the reed to suit the music. A common error in reed making is to scrape the cane in violent gradations. A gradual taper is desired. Not doing so restricts the vibrations and chokes the sound. Experience often corrects this mistake. The proof of a reed maker’s pudding is in his or her ability to adapt their reeds to the task at hand.

In the symphony orchestra, the bassoon wears many hats. It has the ability to sing gloriously, growl aggressively, or even bounce cheerfully. The versatility in the instrument’s tonal palette lies mainly in the reed. Whispering pianissimos and true fortes would not be possible on a bassoon without a good reed. Producing a functioning bassoon reed by hand can have its complications. Unfortunately there are no ways around the tedious process; the only sure way to understand the fundamentals is to learn by experience. Sol Shoenbach, the former solo bassoonist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, stated that only after someone has filled a laundry basket with their old reeds will they begin to make good reeds. The main goal of a reed is to produce an even scale, consistent tone, and clean articulation throughout the entire range of the instrument. Thanks to the persistence of bassoon reed makers, we can enjoy the enjoyable sounds of the bassoon .

The violation of mankind rests in his unrelenting desire for superhero status, growing outward from a childlike zeal. The unfortunate, shadowing, reality of the clown is that he is ugly under the face paint. Not knowin, the poor kid laughs at his nonsical humor, only to find himself blowing long, stetched ballons as an adult.
