Isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black... Love the whole "murderer" part. As if Sharon isn't/wasn't.

Court Rules Disabled Golfer May Use Cart on P.G.A. Tour You know, this quote is what pissed me off...``Anytime you get to ride you gain an advantage, don't you?'' said Frank Nobilo, a PGA Tour regular from New Zealand. ``I think you do. It's the same reason they try to ban drugs in sports -- because it gives an advantage.''
How, how, how is a physical disability anything like using performance enhancing drugs? That statement to me wreaks of blind obedience to discriminatory practices - enables and justifies baseless claims of undue preferential treatment to those with disabilities. To me, it is society sanctioned discrimination. It is painful to watch and painful to listen to from afar. For Casey Martin, and for others like him, it must be terrible to listen to that hatred and disdain for something which they have no control over. How very sickening that we live in a world where people like Nobilo (because is not the exception but rather the norm) are able to, whether they mean to or not, hurt others with their insistence upon really inconsequential rules (that could be changed for all rather than punishing one for something which he cannot control.)
There comes a time when rules are trumped by basic human compassion. (Thankfully given a helping hand, in this case, by other rules - namely the ADA.) And isn't that what are rules are really about - ensuring everyone as comfortable and encouraging a life as possible?
To Casey Martin I not only congratulations, but I'm sorry you had to not only have your disability, but had to fight against others as well to overcome not only it, but artificial limitations which further hamper your persuits.
To the PGA and those who chose to not embrace the moral highground setting an example for others of the real meaning of good sportmanship, I pity you. Oh, and I'd really rather not witness Philip-Morris type commercials heralding all you do for others. The pain you cause people counts as much - why don't you make a commercial about that.

In breath-taking audacity, the House will vote to punish U.N. over Human Rights seat.
So let me get this straight. We act like idiots by renigging on the Kyoto Protocol, long standing internacional treaties about arms, to quote a German newspaper "Throw [our] weight around in the Pacific", AND in the most remarkable acts of all, repeatedly violate international norms for human rights in Iraq, Palestine & Israel, and in our very own country.
I call for a moment of clarity to sit back and take the Archbishop Romero "long view." Go read it - the link is down there somewhere.

The Farm Boy Sharon Recalls Struggle as a Way of Life ' What do you add about a man who is being manipulative? I'm at a sheer loss to express why he's continuing his line of thinking with the settlements. What he's not saying is that by continuing settlement development, the Israeli government is making the peace process even more difficult. Why? Because the goal of settlements is to ingender a Jewish area inside "Palestinian" areas, making it that much harder to draw peace boundries. What Palestinians are left with are many uncontiguous islands of territory, inside a sea of Israeli settlements. This is within the two separate, main partitions.

All Things Considered Max Cleland - Senate 2002 (14.4 | 28.8) -- The partisan battles of George W. Bush's presidency are swiftly being joined in the evenly divided Senate, where the change of a single seat could change the party in control. That makes every vulnerable incumbent a marked man, and no one is more aware of it than freshman Democrat Max Cleland of Georgia. A narrow winner in 1996, Cleland is already campaigning at full speed for his re-election bid in 2002. NPR's Steve Inskeep reports.
I'm going to use this for my "journal" in Leg. Procedures... Oh, the work I have to complete. I'm so very very screwed.
BTW, funny work story that didn't make it into yesterday's rather cryptic journal entry.
So, yesterday I got up at a decent time and rolled my hair and did my makeup for work - far more than I normally do. I've recently (like in the last month) gotten a new outfit - very summery, but still nice. Is very "American" looking - long cotten sleeveless dress (red with blue flowers) and a denim top over it. Looks nice, I went to mass in it, so it was ironed... this'll work, I thought.
So I get dressed and for a change I actually look nice going to work and I don't have an interview that day.
And previously, I've mentioned I really don't give a rats ass about dress code because I feel it is intended to ensure everyone looks nice anyway, right? And if I can wear a denim shirt with my company logo on it, I don't see why I can't wear my regular denim shirt, as long as look nice and am not, say presenting a major project proposal to the Board of Directors. The whole telling me how to dress rather pisses me off and I've previously made it a game of mine to see how many days in a row I could break the dress code. (multiple violations in a day at times - as yesterday.
After our mid-morning meeting, before everyone's left the room (tacky), BigBoss calls me over and says to me in not too quiet a voice, "Grace, you know, you're wearing denim today." I nodded, eyes wide, with my perfectly innocent look plastered upon my angelic face. "And you're wearing open toed shoes." I nodded and smiled, while I examined my shoes, as if proving to myself that they did, in fact, as I'd suspected when I put them on this morning, show my brand new pedicure. "And that's_against_dress_code."
"But don't I look pretty today?" I said, and walked out of the room.
Dress-code my ass. I looked better yesterday than I look most days when I don't come to work with make-up and my hair looks like shit. Surely a manager of a eCommerce group at a major financial institution has more to important things to concern herself with than my shirt and my shoes, both of which look nice, but paint outside the lines. What about global warming, or that we further indebt third world countries, or that our content providers, are, apparently, illiterate. How about that? Why don't you get back to me when you have a real problem and don't waste my time with nit-picky, petty shit.

Abstract Perrin Specialists in the culture of the Cuna Indians -a group settled in Panama and the Colombian region of Urabá-, usually say that the art of decorating molas, one which is associated with dress, decoration, and women, has no relation with religious, symbolic, and cosmogonic knowledge held by men. However, an analysis of designs and subjects shows that the oral art of men is reflected in the pictorial art of women, and viceversa. Dualism, metamorphosis, polysemia, symmetry, labyrinths and mythical entities, are representations of the world that in a conscious or unconscious way are shared by men and women.

SHARON, Ariel Minister of Defence in the second Begin government in 1981, he masterminded Israel's invasion of Lebanon in June 1982. Under the findings of an official Commission of Inquiry (the Kahan Commission), he was held indirectly responsible for the massacres perpetrated in the Palestinian camps of Sabra and Shatila in September 1982. He resigned from his post in 1983 but remained Minister without portofolio until 1984.
This is the information I was looking for on Ariel Sharon. I'd told PX about my advisor knowing stuff about this, but didn't know enough about the historical events. My advisor had once had a note from Begin to Reagan, lying about Israel's doings. The CIA came and took the copy of the note away... blah, blah, blah. PX said the story had the earmarks of being untrue or a little inflated. I really don't think that's true, but... who knows.

But I also fervently do not agree with the Israeli state's actions. It is the state I hold accountable. Not individual Jewish people of conscience who want a fair and equitable end to the Conflict.

British study addresses child sexual abuse in Catholic church You know, this kinda pisses me off. I did the math on this and if 21 of 5600 priests were convicted of offenses, that's 0.3%. POINT THREE percent.
And why just Catholic. What if they'd come out saying that (hypothetically), well, there were 21 of 5600 black men convicted of offenses, so let's subject all of them to testing?! The world would be enraged - that type of stereotyping and vast generalization, not to mention persecution, would not be tolerated.
Why only Catholic priests. I'm curious, what's the average in *all* religious communities? Hum? My mother was molested by a Baptist Deacon. Why not test them too?
Because I'll tell you why not. Testing isn't the answer. Prevention is. Testing just creates a superfluous arguement and creates an additional negative... Prevention and mental health access and education - positive things, are the answer. That's where you find the justice. None of us will find it by creating another injustice in testing all clergy (Catholic or Baptist or whatever).
And goddammit, fucking leave the Catholic priests alone a bit, huh? I'm sick to death of hearing how only Catholic priests committ these terrible acts because the fact is I know first hand *that* is not true. Start reporting on religious groups as a whole instead of singling out one group.

Justice Ginsburg blasts death penalty, backs moratorium too bad Maryland didn't pass said moratorium.
Several years ago, one of my co-workers was amazed that *I*, grace kennedy, did not back the death penalty. Afterall, at ConservativeFinancialCo (at least at the time), I appeared to be a conservative Republican. I appeared all prim and proper and churchy-like.
But that, folks, was only my appearance. I never said things to indicate I was in fact in favor of the death penalty. In fact, I've opposed it since the 6th grade.
This girl and I, we took a business trip together. And one night, sitting in my hotel room, we watched a documentary program on A&E I think about a Houston family (where we were from) who were going to Huntsville (near where we live) to watch the execution of the man convicted of murdering 2 family members. (A brother and sister at a pawn shop.)
The whole show I was beside myself upset and the actions of the family. I'm by no means saying what the convicted murderer did was right, but the family do they no understand that this man's death won't avenge their suffering. If he'd had a competant lawyer, he'd likely have walked free. If he hadn't been tried in Harris County, Texas, with a death penalty rate the highest of any county in Texas, the state with the most executions, he might not have been sentenced to die? If he'd been white instead of black... if he'd been rich instead of poor... The list goes on.
And the death penalty isn't supposed to be a punishment! The prison system is ideally to reform criminals and protect society from those which it finds too dangerous to let loose. Since, in this age of technology, we have the means to protect society from criminals without the death penalty, why oh why do we continue this cruel and inhumane and unjust "punishment?"
And before you give me that "in the Bible it says 'an eye for an eye'" crap, lemme tell ya... when that was written, in the context of the times, you'll find that it was written to keep others from going TOO FAR in punishment. People were gaining off the reparations owed and demanding too much from criminals. THAT is the context of an eye for an eye.

Cnn.com has a pretty unnotable article on Susan Egan right now. I looked it over real quick, because while working on my paper, I am working with Eileen Egan, so the name caught my attention.
So anyway, I'm reading the article, and at the end, on her credits, I saw Men Don't Tell (1993) (TV) which I caught the very end of a couple of years ago on TV. The imdb.com commentator doesn't give it high points, but I remember clicking to the station right before Judith Light's character tackled a Christmas tree in a fit of anger and abuse. I watched till the end (not much longer) and remembered at the time thinking it was one of the most strikingly accurate portrayals of how abusive women really can be... and how, as women, society is willing to overlook their culpability or their capacity for this sort of abuse. That tree tackling is something that would have happened at my house, and wouldn't have been too terribly notable or unheard of on the scale of things. That would be something that was forgotten in relation to others.
Scary, non?
