Obviously, I'm with Jack here - there's very little that can be said about recent events, BUT if anyone emails you informing you that Nostradamus predicted the event, you should perhaps direct them here.

No comment to make about last Tuesday except that ZMag has the best coverage on the net in terms of reaction, whereas for news updates head for Drudge Report.

Those of you who check Esc every day, perhaps more than once, in feverish anticipation of news from our favourite weather presenter Dan Corbett, may be reaching the edge of your sanity. Dan was last heard of way back in April, when our top DC correspondent Paul Wallis tracked him down to Houston, America. Well, my children, I have some excellent news for you. Paul writes today to tell me that our man Dan is now resident in Arizona, but is currently in top-level talks with the BBC to pack that brolly in his bag and make a return to our screens at Christmas! What better present could we wish for?

Universe Jellified, Devoured By Killer Strangelet
Comedy end-of-the-world science report from yesterday's Telegraph, who are presumably engaged in some kind of bet with the Guardian (see below). Amazingly, doesn't actually use the exact terms "heavy electricity" or "wobblymatter".

Commiserations to Palatino
Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see that the Guardian has reprinted a story from the Onion as real news. (Unconvincing "it was a joke" explanation here.)

Behind Big Brother
Unbelievably long and stupidly late Big Brother memoir by Elizabeth Woodcock. For those of you who didn't see BB2 round the clock on cable, and who are shocked and disgusted by the revelation that the C4 shows were edited to suit the contestants' stereotypes, let me tell you that, if anything, Elizabeth was more dull, snobby and maternal in the footage you didn't see than in the stuff you did.

Life's a Pitch
On the back of Situations Vacant, currently playing in Edinburgh, a chance to submit your own bad sitcom ideas. My favourite: "Creeping Up Appearances: Hyacinth Bucket, disguised as an old mattress, lurks in the front gardens of homes of the slobbish before breaking in and committing guerilla acts of standard raising while they are out."
