ChildCare Action Project (CAP): Christian Analysis of American Culture I know I'm sleeping a little easier tonight knowing these paragons of virtue are watching over Hollywood's cultural output. Nobody else has been brave enough to call to attention the blasphemic degradation of humans in Planet of the Apes.
Ahem. It has come to my attention (repeatedly, by one person) that this website contains a scarcity of information about my lovely wife Candace. I must admit that I have been deficient in including information about her, or the wedding. Fear not, however. When I move to Chicago, even though I'll have even less free time then than now, I will endeavour to immortalize her online.
Hate Mail to a Writer for a National Magazine The "national magazine" is Entertainment Weekly and the writer is Jessica Shaw, who creates a fluffy piece every week called the Shaw Report. This prompted a letter to the editor from yours truly, who needs his next jolt of being immortalized in print.
Warnings Affixed to Laboratory Doors at MIT Good for a chuckle, much in the same vein as Engrish though not quite as racially charged.
Catholic League to Salon: Go to hell! Oh, this is hilarious. It's what happens when organizations, who exist for presumably good purposes at the outset, go way bad. Whether it's the Catholic League or GLAAD or the Jewish Anti-Defamation League (also, some would say, NAACP or the ACLU), all have had moments when they lose their way. On the other hand, the Catholic League does say it protects the free speech rights of Catholics, not necessarily of others, and one would probably guess that the artist in question is not a tithe-paying member of Holy Mother Church.
Lorenzo Music, RIP Garfield will never speak again; the voice of the animated cat died this week at 64. I always shed a little tear when I watched "Here Comes Garfield," when Odie and Garfield end up at the pound. I guess he also created/produced "Rhoda," but I wouldn't know anything about that.
Happy Birthday to my brother, Doug. 20 years young today. Like I said in his e-card, hope his day is full of colourful balloons, envelopes stuffed with cash, and extensive (but controlled) self-abuse.
Whyte merchants question police presence. Yeah man, it's such a downer to have to, like, live inside the law, man. It's messin' with our style! Seriously, though - do Whyte Ave. business owners think they're the only people in the area who give a hoot about crime? Please tell me you notice the houses and apartments on both sides of the street when you get out of your car after parking it (freeloader!) on a side street.
Telecom costs 50-100% higher in US over Canada. So there is a reason to do business north of the 49th Parallel, despite what the National Post might have to say about it.
Trevor Misapeka. Every athletics meet needs their Eddie the Eagle, whether it's the Jamaican bobsledding team or the African guy who competed in Sydney's 100m freestyle having never seen an Olympic-sized pool. Besides, if you're there, you might as well compete, no?
Dubya wants his oil. How did you people end up with this yahoo? Oh, that's right - a questionable Electoral College system. How soon we forget.
Church of God members crave "balance" for CAS. Children's Aid Societies are a strange Ontario construct, seeming to serve the purpose of child welfare and child abuse investigation in Ontario. Seven children from a family in Quebec were recently removed from their home because their parents administered corporal punishment - specifically, whipping with a switch. I'm curious to know what kind of "balance" is achieved by having a majority of Church of God members on a CAS. Surely the Church doesn't think its members constitute half the population served?
TV Program Criticized in England. I'd love to see this show ... g_d knows this medium needs a skewering. And of course the Daily Mail is going to call it "the sickest TV show ever." It's not like they have the most sterling of media standards.
