Objective:
To work as a web developer, especially of database-backed websites. I am an excellent problem-solver, a quick learner, and enjoy programming.
Abstract skills:
Project
management: In my recent position as multimedia ancillaries
producer I was responsible for coordinating design, production,
proofreading, editing and manufacturing for CD-ROMs and websites
to accompany college-level textbooks.
Product
development: I have solid experience in the lifecycle of
projects including the student CD-ROM to accompany an
college-level intro biology textbook. For this CD, I coordinated
content providers, designers, editors, graphic artists,
programmers, narrators, and a recording studio. My roles were
programming activity modules to go on the CD, incorporating the
modules into the framework of the CD, coordinating the submission of other activities, editing sound files, producing a master CD,
testing the final CD, making editorial and program changes and
finally, providing tech support to the sales force and users of
the CD.
Problem solving:
I have 10 years of experience providing technical support in a
wide variety of environments ranging from computer labs in
college to teaching small classes in software products to
one-on-one consulting. In every case, I have relied on my
knowledge and on my ability to research and formulate solutions
to questions or problems.
PHP/MySQL:
biopsychology links
The companion site to Biological Psychology, 3/e. This site has a password-protected admin interface that allows the author to add, edit and delete URLs, and descriptions. On the main site, the links are sorted chronologically and by keyword and chapter.
textbook e-commerce site
This site is in progress. It dynamically generates descriptive pages for each title and allows the customer to search by title, author or subject area. There is a shopping cart that uses session variables and allows customers to choose whether they order the book at full price or as an examination copy. The accompanying admin console allows the user to add, edit, and delete titles as well as maintain the new and forthcoming links that appear on the home page.
the online tagsale
This was my first endeavor with PHP and MySQL. I created a database of things I wanted to sell - including photos, descriptions and prices - made it searchable by room and keyword, and put an ad in the paper announcing the site. The site received about 150 hits and I made over $500 from the tag sale.
blog
This site was modeled after blogger. I wanted to write my own version that would let me completely customize the interface, allow me to give accounts to others so that they could contribute, and improved on blogger's archive function.
