Saturday, 2001 January 6, 20:00
Orpheum Theatre, San Francisco, Center Mezzanine

This new musical just came out of London, UK, and puts a story behind all your favorite ABBA music that you grew up on. This is show greets sell out audiences in London, Toronto, and now SF! RSVP and prepayment for tickets due 2000 November 20.

I have 20 tickets reserved. If I get more than 20 requests, I will make a second reservation on seating. Seat locations assigned first come, first served.

Ragtime - Review

We had 20 people join us for this show. This musical spent a good amount of time in developing the characters and the circumstances of three separate individuals. An African American who dreams of a life of equality for his family, an immigrant who hopes to find prosperity in a new country and a wife who wishes to move beyond the confines of her structured existence to experience life at its fullest. Set in 1900s America, these three individuals eventually cross paths in New York. ... and you thought you had it tough in Silicon Valley 2000.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Marathon - http://www.orshakes.org

Immediately following Ragtime, I was invited to join with with three other friends to see 4 shows in Ashland, Oregon. The Man Who Came To Dinner, Stop Kiss, The Night of the Iguana, Crumbs From The Table Of Joy. I'll probably do this again next year Fall 2001!

The Man Who Came To Dinner was the funniest of the set. A radio personality is confined to stay at the home which he fell in front of. He introduces mayhem, which includes cockroaches, penguins and other types of displeasures to his host family.

Stop Kiss was very shocking and tense. Story of two women developing a friendship and later the victims of violence. The juxtoposition of the future and present events makes for a very artsy performance.

The Night of the Iguana. This was way too long, and I don't really even remember what this show was about.

Crumbs from the Table of Joy had everything. This brought out hope, hate, happiness, and uneasiness. A story of a black family in New York during the 40s, and the introduction of a German step mom to the family. This show is a must see.

SAG DEMONS - ride day

well, this was it. this was the day that all of us had trained for. it was the muscular sclorosis - tour du jour charity ride.

the ride started out with me leaving fremont at 0530, and getting to redwood city at 0615. i got registered, and met up with my team at 0645. Our team finally got rolling at 0730, just before the final starting time for those planning to complete the century, that's 100 miles, ride.

this was my first sponsored ride, and i was really excited. there were so many other cyclists out that day. i think the day total was about 8000. People of all skill levels were riding. on the ride, i saw severed deer legs, a serious injury, and lots of hot weather. i almost got into some heat exhaustion and dehydration. you know you are dehydrated when you can no longer pedal any longer, and when you start to get dizzy. at one rest stop, i drank down two water bottles, and started bleeding out of my skin sweat. ack!

during the peak of the day, i think the temperature was upwards to 102F. it was HOT! i quickly realized that i could no longer complete the 100 miles, because i was already behind schedule. at the final rest stop, i waited behind until the rest of my team caught up, and decided to cut the ride short to 65 miles. m had a pretty bad injury to his knee, so it was difficult for him to ride home. we ended up taking it slow the last 10 miles back to the starting line.

at the end of the day, i had completed 70 miles. i was proud. =) here are my stats.

total distance - 70.15 miles
total time - 5.44.26
average speed - 12.2mph
top speed - 31.5mph

--/ PAST SHOWS /--

we had just completed two excellent shows. CIRQUE DU SOLEIL's DRALION, with a turn out of 16 peoples, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, with a turn out of 40 peoples.

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL's DRALION, i thought was short on the story line compared to the previous performance of CIRQUE DU SOLEIL's QUIDAM. DRALION was heavily influenced by chinese acrobatics, and for those who never seen it live before, this would have been an excellent treat!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was an excellent show. i had tried to get a seat to see this and THE LION KING in new york, but was unsuccessful because the seats were always sold out three months in advance! it's no wonder! the show was excellently choreagraphed. bright lights and pyros!

tour de jour - muscular sclorosis

3 days and counting.

this saturday, i will be riding in a muscular sclorisis charity ride called tour de jour. i am not really sure what muscular sclorosis is, but there is a whole lot of information on the site above. i think i will have to check it out. this past sunday, i did a 50 mile ride to prepare myself for the upcoming 100 mile ride. i had been doing training rides over the past two months already, but had not been totally consistent, as each weekend seems to be filled with weddings to go to. this has been the summer of weddings.

the 50 mile loop was definitely the longest i had gone so far. there were times when i was really physically drained, and had to get off the bike, and do some walking. my but definitely couldn't take it any longer. then there were times, when i was wondering, what am i doing. this is crazy. i had only done 50 miles, and it was a flat 50 miles, and yet, i was already in so much pain. what is this 100 miles going to be like!

my 50 mile loop went as follows:

  • home in fremont
  • down grimmer, warm springs, into milpitas
  • across montague expressway into santa clara
  • snack at a convience store - banana and m&ms
  • up the frontage roads along 101 to palo alto
  • across east palo alto on university avenue
  • potty break
  • across the dumbarton bridge with major major headwind!
  • down along 880 back to my house

the whole ride took 5 hours, so i averaged 10 miles per hour. i had a snack break in there, and i had gotten sorta lost a few times. i didn't have a map. the best part of doing this ride so far, was that i paid so much more attention to the things around me. i never really noticed all the scenary on the south side of the dumbarton bridge. i hit much more headwinds than i did tail winds. what is just as bad as head winds, are side winds. i even hit a peak of 26 miles per hour. D noted to me that in the tour de france, the cyclists average 28 - 32 miles per hour uphill over 115 miles. the thing is, they did this after having already done it the previous 10 days.

this century ride is a personal goal. if i don't get it this time, i will try again. another goal of mine is the davis double century. yes. you read that right. double century IS 200 miles!. i hope i don't throw away my bike at the end of the ride because of agony.

you can still sponsor me for the ms ride by paypal!.
