Wednesday, February 28, 2001 Glen Ballard pisses me the hell off..I've been listening to Everyday all night and now all morning and I miss the long drawn out jams like all other DMB CDs. I didn't think I would, but I do. In my humble..so so humble opinion, Ballard over-produces everything he touches. I mean, my boys were cut down to a CD that is only about 50 minutes long as opposed to the others which probably average out to about 75 minutes. Also, where the hell are Boyd and Leroi? The violin? The Sax? Those are key parts of the DMB sound and they're seriously missing on this album..they've been replaced by keyboards..ahhh!...Overall, the songs are awesome lyrically..musically (not that they're lacking musical talent cause well, they're the best, I'm just seriously leaning toward the fact that switching producers was a mistake) not their best. It's all good, but I wouldn't pick this as the defining DMB album..or any of the songs on the album as defining DMB songs..though "So Right" rocks my world hard..hmm*stepping down off my soapbox*
:o) :o) :o) Ahem, gues what I've got..I've got DMB's "fourth and highly anticipated studio release" (I saw that quote somewhere and was kinda like..damn straight it's highly anticipated) I'm extremely excited.. and so so very happy. It's an awesome album...again, the boys haven't let me down. At this point..with me as addicted to the sound as I am, I don't think they could disappoint if they tryed. I've come to think the Dave Matthews Band is something that's really bigger than the members. It's such a spiritual and touching thing..such an exception to anything I've ever heard before. This is the only band who can make a song which will bring tears to my eyes and catch my breath everytime I hear it. Nothing less than amazing..the words..the music...beauty embodied in 5 awesome individuals.. Have I gotten carried away? I think so, but this is me happy..happy happy happy..and this is my blog..so deal.. ;o) .. *floating away on cloud nine*
think I just made up a word..
*sighs* ..Jack Jack Jack..who put NH all the way over there..? goodnight..I have to be up in 2.5 hours and well yeah..I'm still awake.. *shakes head* Sad sad..sad. *sighs*
The Grammys were last night. The whole thing with Eminem and Elton John made me think about so much. I was so angry at everyone dogging Eminem for his lyrics. I was tired of people basically judging everyone else and being so closeminded. It pissed me off because I know that at least half the people boycotting Eminem and likening him to the devil hadn't even listened to his music and are also the types of people who don't and don't want to relate to hip-hop music. They're afraid of it. I mean it's fine if you don't want to listen to it..that's what we call having and "opinion", but opinions can't be labeled right or wrong so don't accept you opinion as being "true" or the best opinion to have. For you, one person who doesn't like Eminem, there are millions that obviously do and I believe there a most of those millions are truly decent people. That's another thing, when did we start judging eachother on the types of music we listen to. That's bullshit. I listen to everything from DMX to Dave Matthews Band to Sublime to Billie Holiday. Label me as "punk" or a "hip-hoper"..I dare you. You can't completely write off a person for the music they listen to. If you think about it, it's not fair. At least to me it's not. In my opinion, Eminem is a hip-hop genius. That's right...genius. There are a lot of people who would definitely question that and call me crazy, but anyone who has listened to rap..hip-hop knows that lyrically, Eminem is awesome. You have to be able to appreciate rap to listen to Eminem. He is not the only one who says what he says in his music. Hip-hop is full of vulgar and offensive language. My answer to people not wanting to be offended?..Don't listen. We have a thing called free speech in this country. No matter how much you bitch about what he's saying, he's still going to be able to say it. Being a black american and the object of racism on many occasions, I would advise you to move on. Don't let it spoil the day..the fun you could be having. It may be hard but you can ignore it. Trust me. No one is going to force you into the nearest Best Buy to pick up the Marshall Mathers LP..I promise. Ignorance in the country is going nowhere fast. I appreciate all of the people who are out there trying to make a difference, but until people are ready to listen you're fighting a battle you're sure to lose. Save you energy for the day the battle really ensues. Something else, it's music. It's Expression. Eminem has said himself that half of the things he says in his music he doesn't mean. Music is a way for him to vent and to, obviouisly, express a lot of anger. That anger may come out in a lot of hateful words all at once, but that does not mean the he is a hateful person. If someone has a creative outlet, he or she should be able to understand that. When I write, I know that I have a lot of "fucks" and "bitches", but that's because it's my writing. At the moment, I felt those were the only words I could use to express the anger I was really feeling. That is the way I express myself. If Em wants to fill his music with "fags" and "whores" that's him. He may not even use those words in everyday life, but like I said, it's his music and he should be able to say what he wants. Overall, I just think people are delving way to deeply into the whole thing. People are taking the things he says way way too seriously. Until he starts killing off and beating up homosexuals and until he actually finishes off his wife and mother, I don't think we have anything to worry about.
2. You are imaginative and sensitive, and seeking an outlet for these qualities, especially in the company of someone equally sensitive. You are aroused by the unusual or adventurous. 3. You are unhappy at the resistance you feel when you try to assert yourself. This makes you resentful, but you give way apathetically so that you can have peace and quiet. 4. You are dissatisfied with the existing situation. You want to be loved and admired for yourself alone. You need attention, recognition and the esteem of others. 5. You want to be valued and respected, and you seek this from a close and peaceful association of mutual esteem. Wow...that's pretty right on..almost scary..then again, everything scares me..heh wow
