Oy . . . sorry for not updating sooner. I had a *wonderful* Thanksgiving (teehee), once I was done with all the damn turkey, and an equally exciting time after that (ice skating! and I only fell once!). But then I got oh-so-very sick on my way home, and spent a week in bed. Am nearly better now! <fingers crossed>

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH MY COUNTRY!?? Polls closed almost 24 hours ago, and we still have no idea who won the Presidency . . . and I don't *even* want to hear complaints that Nader stole Gore's votes. There should have been no question as to who was elected . . . the seated vice president during one of the most prosperous periods in this country's history should have had no problem getting elected! If everything had gone as it was supposed to, Nader's 1-6% per state would not have mattered. So there.

I had a wonderful Halloween. Last minute Pearl Jam concert. As stated in a blissful email that I sent to someone this morning . . . : Here's yesterday's horoscope: If you play your cards right, you could be looking at a raise, a bonus, or some other great opportunity. The results: 1) An incredible concert (according to my friend Mitzye, who has been to six shows on this tour, this blew all of the others out of the water), seen from 11th row, center. 2) A handshake and a short conversation with a very exhausted and euphoric Eddie Vedder. 3) A for-crew-only P.J. t-shirt. 4) A dated afterparty pass (didn't go, but the pass is sweet - I'll scan it). 5) The chance to see STP and Godsmack from backstage this weekend if I choose to (would just have to get down to San Jose somehow). Life really does rule sometimes.

Hi all - I've been getting complaints that I've kinda disappeared lately - sorry. Been going crazy trying to deal with Halloween (the biggest holiday of the year here in SF), midterms (EVERYTHING is happening next Thursday, the 2nd - I'm so worried; 20 page paper due and 4 tests, all in the same day), and . . . oh, yeah . . . made some important visits to some important people last weekend. :) Oh, and did I mention that work has been just awfully busy and hectic as well? *sigh* At any rate, I've found myself with *two* new U2 CDs to soothe me - the new one (see below) and a live album that was only distributed to fan club members. Score. I'm in Bono bliss. I also went to Marie Callander's with a classmate earlier tonight, after our astronomy lab - he used to work there, so we got special treatment . . . I don't think I've eaten so much food in months. I also don't think I'm going to fit into my Halloween costume, at this rate . . . tried on my corset, and it was scary-tight. Oh, yes - my Halloween costume - guess I haven't told much about that yet. Pud screwed up and never sent me my fc.com shirt (*sniffle*), so I'm just going to be a fallen angel - got the most incredible black wings today. Huge. Luscious. Many pictures to come, I hope. The End.

I now have the new U2 album in its entirety - vive Napster! It's supposed to be released in the States on Halloween . . . it's soooo good! :)

Just listened to a U2 ecard that featured a preview of "Kite," from ATYCLB. Yummmmm... if that little clip is a good representation of the song, then it just might move towards the top of my extensive U2 fave list.... "Who's to say where the wind will take you/Who's to say what it is will break you/I don't know/Where the wind will blow/Who's to know when the time has come around/I don't want to see you cry/I know that this is not goodbye" ~

So I'm currently standing in SFSU's International Relations Briefing Room, in front of a podium supplied with some very expensive equipment. I'm here on a Saturday, preparing my debate, and nervous as can be about public speaking... I just finished a presentation in my Biography of Paris class - so I hope that will prep me a little more for next week.. I'm soooo nervous... okay, I'm going to go now, I'm waaay too nervous about breaking something in here. :) Heh heh, laser pointers are cool.

I think I'm starting to get sick . . . gonna get me one of those cold-busting pineapple/orange smoothies from the juice place in the Castro after work . . . like 7000% RDA of Vitamin C or something. SFSU students just got a packet in the mail about increased meningitis attacks on California college campuses . . . students display flu-like symptoms and die a couple days later. In case I have meningitis due to some dumbass in my packed Astronomy class, I promise to bequeath Dan my Church of the Subgenius poster. Lauren can have my suede pants (close enough to black leather?) and Jody of course gets all of my Dumas books. Matt can have my downloaded U2 bootlegs, and my Keats poems will be shipped to Rajeev in Delhi. Klutchypoo is granted my extensive collection of old-skool classic computer games, including (but not limited to) The Search for Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Zork I, II and III, Civilization and Leisure Suit Larry (pre-VGA upgrade!). WOW! My home town really CAN produce cool people! From the Muggles For Harry Potter newsletter: "Billy Smith is a seventh grader from Garden Grove, California, who spent last summer introducing Harry Potter to kids from low-income families who cannot afford books. He volunteered at an elementary school where he read aloud from "Harry Potter and the Sorecerer's Stone." Although Billy is being honored mainly for helping make the Potter books universally available, he is a strong opponent of censorship. "When they try to ban books, it's like trying to get rid of kids' imaginations," he says." (Awww... that's SO great. I used to read to kids in my elementary school too...)

Candai (aka Hermione) speaks: You know how I always complain about the professor who stares at me during International Relations theory, who makes me paranoid that he's going to call on me? And how I always feel like a perfect idiot in that class, beside all those future diplomats? Well, the capitalist world-system and economic dependency theory that we've been discussing has actually been sinking in! I'm so excited. I've actually had valid points to make when he (inevitably) calls on me lately. In other news, I had a 3rd grade flashback today in my critical thinking/logic class. At the end of class, my teacher returned the essays that she graded over the weekend. Everyone started to get up to leave. Then she said, "Wait, there's one more thing I want to go over with you." Grumbles. Everyone sat back down. Then she handed out photocopies of MY essay to all the students, with the name crossed out! She made each person read a paragraph of it out loud to the class. I was trying to keep a blank stare, pretending that it wasn't mine, then the girl beside me suddenly looked at me and and loudly said, "Oh, Candice, YOU did this one, didn't you?" It was MORTIFYING. Everyone was glaring at me, and I was beet red. When class *finally* ended, I was the first one out of the room. Now I'm afraid to go back . . . isn't that lame?

"Go, hang thyself in thine own heir-apparent garters!" . . . Spent a lovely 94 degree day in lovely Golden Gate Park watching a lovely Shakespearian play . . . Henry IV Pt 1, to be exact. (May I again mention that it was 94 degrees in the middle of San Francisco! And I was sitting outside! In the sun! All afternoon! Baking my ass off! Now several random parts of me are beet-red!) So then I came home to find that no water was coming out of the faucets... shortly after, everyone else got home, and we shared our consternation and checked the water tank. May I just say that they were off in an even hotter locale, in lots of clothing, without the ability to shower, all weekend. Much worse off than I, the recently-showered Candai, was. We didn't find anything wrong on the tank. So while they went off in search of bottled water (since a cold sponge bath would be better than no bath at all, in their situation), I called the water company and had a horrendous time trying to deal with them, then went exploring and found another water valve. Soon, around when they returned, the problem was solved. . . . But if I eeeevvver find out who turned off the water .... Okay, I'm cooled off now. Sharing my bizarre stories with the world does have inherent benefits. G'nite. :)

Saw Ralph Nader and Medea Benjamin speak today on campus. I must admit that I was more impressed with Medea's speech than Ralph's. I would love to vote Green this election, but I can't shake the feeling that I would be throwing my vote away - indeed, throwing it right into Dubya's hands. HowEVER, for you Oaktown readers, there's a Green candiidate (a Ms. Kaplan, I believe) running for a city position whose ONLY opponent is a like 26-year Republican who JUST "turned" Dem this year. Polls indicate that Ms. Kaplan is likely to win, which would make her the first Green and openly gay person to hold an Oakland gov't position. Exciting times, people...

I know this is silly, but . . . my horoscope is SO right on today. "Try to put aside some of your worries and fears early in the day and focus on the things that are coming together. There should be lots of movement and travel surrounding you, and plenty of long-distance communication as well. Interesting news could come from afar today. There are probably some major financial issues on the table still to be dealt with. And you're likely to be making some decisions that will soon produce some important results."

so it's saturday night in san francisco, and of course i'm at home. it's like 50-something degrees in my room right now, and i look like a taliban wife - i'm so wrapped up in blankets that only my eyes and my hands are showing. the following description of an hour's worth of my evening serves as a representation of my entire day . . . i was on the train when this hulking guy got on and inadvertently(?) rammed his elbow into my ear - HARD. didn't apologize. this other (cute) guy got up like he was gonna punch him, but i stopped him - just didn't want to deal w/it. then a homeless guy sat down next to me and babbled for awhile and made me spell words from my book to him. if i tried to ignore him, he started to get loud and scary. his face was scaly. reeeealy scaly. it sucked, but that's a necessary evil when dealing with muni. then when i was waiting for my bus there were some oh-so-obnoxious rich teenage bitches sitting there next to me, being loud and trying to talk in valley-girl-cum-british accents. and so on. UGH.

Camille and I were experiencing some expatriate suburnan angst last weekend, so we hit the local shoppin' mall, as Zorak would say. I have a new favorite Bath and Body Works scent - "Cool Citrus Basil." I bought a little bottle of lotion, and I just keep opening it and smelling it. :) Yummy. I also made Camille agree to dress up for Halloween with me this year, and we got these AWESOME iridescent orangy-gold skirts for it at Macy's. I had this sudden costume impetus at 3 in the morning last weekend, and she seems to like the idea...We're gonna be dot com fairies. A good excuse to get all girly and glittered up, with a Bay Area edge. We're gonna carry McDonalds Halloween buckets filled with Monopoly money, which we'll call "venture capital," and toss it at yuppies who don't dress up... or at people who dress like dot commies/nerds. Suggestions?

One of my dear Orange County friends got himself a leeeeetle tipsy last night, and the results are worth publishing (minus the personal incriminating stuff). I received a series of three emails from him, over the course of six and a half minutes. By the time he wrote the first letter, he was already well on his way to being fit-shaced. And he also was already depressed over something else. I'm assuming that by the last letter, he had a few more shots - again, in about a five minute time span. Too awesome. Note the progression from drunk to inebriated, visible in his grammar etc.

Email #1: How are you? Myx lad friend came over and fed me jack daniels. Lots of it. There is a sligt chance I'm drunk. She's taking a showr. Too much jak makes tyou emotional. I feel very sad. I guess being drunk makes tou have very pure emotions. I don't have that vague middle ground feelings. I fel straight upo sad in it's pure sad form. :(

Email #2: the rest of the hack ust hit me. I cannot even feel me finger tips any more. I am full fleged fuckedu p. I can't even here right. I am thinking of having more of a half shot.

Email #3: Tha last last shot of jack kicked in. I tristed to shopwer. I can't evne stand now/. Talk tp ypi tp,prrpw/
