Cecily -- thanks for your thoughts. I have been singing a lot of patriotic
songs in recent days. I will tell you all about it as soon as I get my wits
together. A lot is going on right now and I'm just trying to get some
clarity in the midst of chaos.

Thanks for thinking of me. Tell Sam and all our friends that I send my
best. More to come, soon...

I haven't collected my thoughts about what happened in New York and DC yesterday. I did not know anyone who was affected. Duck seems to be doing okay, and I'm glad she's being posting to her blog. I have one friend in DC that I haven't heard from yet, and my hope is that he was nowhere near the Pentagon building yesterday. Parag, you better email me soon.

"In an era when the average post-college worker spends 10 hours a day sitting in front of a computer and producing work that only exists as ethereal pixels, the idea of making an actual thing suddenly holds much more appeal."

Thinking about Madrigal Dinner. What if I had never met Stepan or Steve or Sam or Alice or Mike or any of the people who have become so dear to me? I was not in school the first year I sang (1996) and this will be the first year since then that I am not a student. I want to be a part of Madrigal this year and I don't. I have to wonder, though... if not being a student had stopped Sam from singing again in 1998, my life would be completely different now.

There is almost no better sugar rush than the one swiftly provided by a 12oz can of Welch's Sparkling Grape Soda. Plus we get it free in the breakroom.

I saw the movie Made last night. There was a line that included the brand name "Nokia" that I won't be forgetting any time soon.

My horoscope for the week of July 17, 1997:

AQUARIUS (Jan 20-Feb 18)
I'm going to tell you a story I read in "Funny Times." Study it. Memorize it. AND THEN MAKE DAMN SURE YOU DO NOTHING THAT EVEN REMOTELY RESEMBLES IT IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS! It seems that three performing dolphins made a clean getaway from their pens in an aquatic park in Key Largo. A few days later they resurfaced 20 miles away in a lagoon adjacent to a golf course. Every day at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., they assumed their stage personas and acted out all the tricks they'd learned during their former incarceration--hoping, apparently, to be rewarded with food. Moral of the story (do I really have to spell it out?!): Don't drag your prison with you when you escape.

This horoscope was published exactly four years ago today and almost exactly one month before I quit my full time job to return to school. I was planning on keeping my job half-time while I took classes but this horoscope caused me to rethink that decision. I told my coworkers that I wouldn't be working with them in the fall and instead took a job at the campus computer store. I never took another job that wasn't computer related. I came to consider this as another kind of education to supplement my art degree. I think it worked.
