Hrm, guess I didn't get to Blog at work. Ah well. I can still spout random thoughts, I guess. Ok, so they're doing construction across the street from my dorm, and apparently they're not going to be done until next spring. Wonderful. So we'll have to put up with the ceaseless beeps, the clang of the piledrivers, and the rumble of engines. Makes me happy, for one. Hrm, and it doesn't even look like they're doing much...just moving dirt back and forth... Apparently they're adding on to the existing power plant. For what reason, I have no clue. Anyway, the street that runs by it and one side of my dorm has been closed all year...earlier they were working on a new steam tunnel, supposedly. I thought it would be way cooler if they were actually making a subway system, but no luck. *sigh* Some days I wonder how I make it.

I've been studying in the library the past couple of nights, and I find it a very good place to do this. I guess Osama's (coffee shop) isn't all it's cracked up to be. All those books muffle sound pretty well, and you can find desks hidden way back in the stacks where noone will find you. It's very peaceful, and just the thought of that massive amout of human information helps me concentrate on my own pidly assignments. Good times. Oh yeah, my sketch comedy troupe is performing tomorrow night at Spotlight, which is basically our dorm talent show thing. So yeah, that should be interesting. Unfortunately, I have two tests on Thursday that I need to study for. Looks like I'll be at the library 'til midnight tomorrow...

So here are some random thoughts that are right now spouting from my head:

Why are people so defensive about the music they like? I mean, sure, people are generally defensive about a lot of things, but music seems to hit a nerve with a lot of people. So what makes music special? I, I must confess, am a music addict. Whenever I'm in my room, there are mp3s playing. I have a huge collection of them, and I listen to many of them daily. I like just about everything, and I'll gladly give a new song a listen, even if it's only once. There is one type of music I can't stand, however, and that is country. I don't know how, but I've always known deep in my heart that country music is evil. It is, I tell you! Ignore Marilyn Manson and Slipknot! It's Shania and the Dixie Chicks, along with many other unnamables (notice my lack of country music knowledge), that plan to take over the world with their horrible twangy lyrics and dobro guitar solos. Classic country is awesome. Stuff like Tennessee Ernie Ford and Patsy Cline. Probably because it's more like rock & roll. Anyway, back to the topic. People defend their music because...it defines who they are. What they listen to, what they read, what they wear. It all makes up a person's identity. Music...is an amazing force. It can stir emotions, tell stories, and convery deep meanings...it's a language all its own, that all humans understand. People may not understand other people's musical tastes, but they can recognize that there is a message conveyed within, one that runs deeper than language, religion, and race. Music is a message with many origins and many carriers, but there are no limits to our understanding of it.

Ok, so this is a really weird time for me to write here, but why not. *walks away to brush teeth* *returns* Anyway, I need to go to work soon, so perhaps I'll Blog from there. Not usually tons of stuff for me to do, and I generally have access to an Internet connection. On the plus side, I've already catalogued 174 craters on Mars at this site. It's pretty fun, and it feels like I'm contributing to the whole US-in-space-doing-stuff zeitgeist. Anyway, gotta run right now. I'll be back soon.

Right, so apparently I don't write in here often enough. Here's a little something I wrote the other night. Does it make any sense? Let's see:

So, time to write my thoughts down. Things are interesting. The world is interesting. People are interesting. I am interesting. I don’t half the things that go on in my head or why they go on. There are things going on in there that I will never understand or control, but I have a feeling that it is all for the better. I have no idea how or why, but something tells me that everything happens for a greater purpose. I don’t know what it is. Does anyone? All I know is that my brain takes care of a lot of stuff by itself so that I don’t have to. I don’t think, “Hey, I want to move my fingers and start typing,” I just do it. That’s the beauty of the brain. I don’t have to remember to breathe or walk or talk, I can just do it. That, to me, is really cool, and I don’t know why. How do these thoughts change from electrical impulses in my head to motions of my fingers and careful combinations of symbols and still mean something? That’s really cool. It’s really very interesting if you think about it. And amazing. I guess that helps me a lot in believing in a greater order to things, perhaps not a god, but at least a divine order. Providence, if you will. I believe that all events happen for the greater good of the universe and that everything that happens is carefully orchestrated for some bigger plan. What that plan is, we may never know, but I take comfort in playing my part for the greater good.

Anyway, I've been pretty bogged down with studying and schtuff, but I'm still gonig to find time to write here more often and add some cool links and stuff. Blib told me about this site, which lets you do volunteer work for NASA marking craters on Mars. Sure, it may seem kinda boring, but this stuff always interests me. Oh yeah, and here's a cool new discovery that I recently ran into. Stainboy is a brainchild of that wacky director, Tim Burton. Not for the faint of heart, but very entertaining in a morose and macabre way. I love it. Erm, other than that...try College Humor or Heavy for some good laughs. I'll have some other cool links up soon. I've been surfing the 'net like it's my job recently. Anyway, good evening, and cheers.

Well, life. It’s crazy thing, and that’s that. I think part of the reason people are so unhappy with it is that they can’t adequately describe it. Try describing “life”. Think you can do it? I beg to differ. It is such an amalgamation of thoughts, feelings, and experiences that no one can adequately describe it with mere words. We can get a good sense of it, but we can’t really describe what it’s like. It just is. I think that’s a good thing, though. If we could describe life pretty accurately, it wouldn’t be as big of a mystery as it is. That’s why I want to have a long life: you never know what surprises are hiding around the next corner. Basically anything can happen. Interacting with people can be infinitely interesting, and learning new things is pleasurable (at least, in most cases). I don’t understand people who kill themselves. They have no hope. It’s like….they’re bored with life? Is that how I put it? Or are they just not curious enough to care what’s around the next corner? All in all, I’d take life over death any day for the simple fact that I’m alive, and I have no idea what death is like; thus, I’ll take life. Despite the pure pain life can hand me—and it does—I’m ultimately too imaginative and curious to let myself get away with not experiencing it. I want to see and do everything that it’s possible for someone to do, and I want to leave a mark on the world, is some fashion. If just one person was helped by my existence, I will be happy. If I live in the memory of just one person, I will be happy. I want to be loved and admired, and I want to admire others. I want to be looked up to, and I want to tell people what it’s like being me, what it’s like seeing through these eyes. I want to be able to sit and write down my life story or write a new one. These words that I type are mine. I take credit for them, and I want everyone to see them, in the hope that someday, someone, somewhere, will read them and appreciate them. I want to be appreciated as a contributing member of the human species, right up there with Aristotle, Plato, Einstein, Hawking, and all the rest of those famous people who did so much to change the world. I don’t know how or when or if I’ll end up there, but I want to be someone who is admired—not rich, not feared, but appreciated. I want to help the world as a whole. I want to give it my little part, and I want it to help everyone. I want to appreciate other people. I want to look at art until my eyes hurt. I want to listen to music into the wee hours of the night. I want to talk to people until there’s nothing left to talk about, and then talk some more. I want to dance until my body aches, watch the sun rise, watch the seasons change, travel the world, find my true love. I want to experience everything the world has to offer me. This is my motto. I want to live by it, write by it, imagine by it, and die by it. I want to be the best person that I can possibly be. I want to matter. I am a writer. This work shall not be in vain. I will write until there are no words left to write and the world crumbles to dust. These hands, this keyboard—these are but tools—tools to add my thoughts to humanity, to remove them from my head and lay them out for all to see. I cannot completely describe them or catalogue them, but I will try. I will let the world see what I am thinking, and, in some small way, add to it. I am a writer. I am writing. And this is where I want to be.

Sorry about the lack of updates... Actually, who really cares, anyway? Not that many people read/care about this page. Ah well. I'll try to do better. I'm going to try to do a nice big update to my dream blog soon. Also, go here. This is one guy that I can almost completely agree with. I'm off to write some more. Good night/morning.

Well, the Ravens won the Superbowl. Not that I care much anyway, but you have to admire a defense like that. Also, the commercials are lots of fun, though they weren't that great this year. My favorite was the one with the VW up in the tree. Anyway, my weekend has been fairly dull, though I had a fun time last night with some friends from across the hall. We just hung out, watched movies, etc. It was good times. Let's see, what else is going on... Oh yeah, I got rid of my old speakers. :) Hehe, now I have the ultimate multimedia speaker system for my 'puter. Mmmmm, Klipsch. I suppose if I can sell all the old stuff when I upgrade my computer, I can actually do it fairly cheaply. My next planned purchase is a DVD-ROM, so hopefully I'll be able to get that in a few weeks. Mmmmm, DVD plus surround sound is a beautiful thing. Oh yeah, the main Digital Catharsis site has been redone, so it's all pretty now. Nice work, Raven and Techne. Oh yeah, and check out Disturbing Auctions for some really frightening things that people have actually put on auction. *shudder* Ok, my German homework is calling me. Peace.

Well, the first full week of classes is actually going pretty well. I know I'm going to have to do a *ton* more work this semester, but the classes are fairly interesting, and I think I'll be able to hold my own fairly well. My German class is moving very quickly, so I'll have to stay on my toes to keep up there. I have a lot of interesting web stuff up this week, including my web radio station. I'm not always broadcasting, but if you want to listen, go to Live365 and search for "electrobank." That's the name of my station when I'm broadcasting. Also, my webcam is up here. I'll put a link in the sidebar as well. Also, I just ran across an amazing 'net radio station, Tag's Trance Trip. It's all trance, all the time, plus live DJs in the evenings. Anyway, that's my daily serving of 'net goodness. :) Enjoy. I have plenty of studying to do.

Wow, what a month it's been. I went home the 20th of December and was there until the 16th of January. A lot has happened. I got to spend a lot of time with Maggie, which was wonderful. It's been about six and a half months, and things are going very well. She's pretty well decided to go to CSU in Fort Collins, CO, so she'll probably be able to visit a few times a semester. Yay! Happiness. Let's see, what all has happened... Well, for starters, I'll hopefully be working at the friendly neighborhood Software, Etc. this summer if I'm lucky. Before I left I went in and talked to the manager about working the summer and we had a pretty good conversation, so that's a possibility. Speaking of software, I recently purchased Giants: Citizen Kabuto, a game I've looking forward to for a very long time. It's great fun in both single and multiplayer. Check it out at Interplay. Ah yes, and to complement the game, my music collection and future DVD purchases, I bought a Klipsch Promedia v.2-400 multimedia speaker set. It's got tons of power, a great woofer, realistic surround sound, and some of the clearest acoustics I've ever laid ears on. I'm definitely keeping this baby around for a long time. Check it out at Klipsch.

My new classes seem like they'll be fairly good. This semester I'm taking German II, Intro to Statistics, Twentieth Century America, and Principals of American Journalism. They'll require much more work than first semesters' courses, but I'm ready to put forth the effort. My German teacher is from Germany, but I never would have known it until she told us. Her English is basically perfect. I wish I could pick up languages like that. *sigh* It's a gift. Oh yes, I've been making progress with my lucid dreams and dreams in general, and I'll post some new stuff when I get around to it. Anyway, it's pretty late. I'll write again soon. Cheers.
