Cryptome - "Cryptome and a host of other crypto resources are likely to be shutdown if the war panic continues." - Currently, Cryptome is an excellent source for information and news related to cryptography. It also archives relevant legal documents including documents from the USA v. Usama bin Laden et al trial
"Cartome, a companion site to Cryptome, is an archive of news and spatial / geographic documents on privacy, cryptography, dual-use technologies, national security and intelligence."
International Cryptography Freedom is a related page with links to cryptography programs and mirror sites.

International Casualties at the World Trade Center - and they call this "War on America"?! I'm not going to argue that it isn't a war on America, but as you can see from the casualty list, this goes beyond our borders.

cluebot.com has a couple recent posts regarding privacy and civil rights in the wake of Tuesday's terrorist attacks. Cluebot is another good site for finding links to additional information. Declan McCullagh (of politechbot) contributes here too.

U.S. Policy Toward Political Islam - "To effectively challenge the threat from radical Islamic movements, the U.S. must shift its focus from trying to crush such movements to pursuing policies that discourage their emergence."

There are too many good links in the most recent Red Rock Eater messages, so I'm not going to try to list them all here. Go to the RRE page at somewhere.com and check out the posts labeled "attack".

An Afghan-American speaks - "You can't bomb us back into the Stone Age. We're already there. But you can start a new world war, and that's exactly what Osama bin Laden wants." update: Pakistan has agreed to let the US use their airspace.

Why can't we ask "Why"? - "Yes! Fuck the terrorists; they deserve to die. But we can no longer ignore the roots of their anger. Behind the violent act of a very few is the powerless suffering of a very many."

I learned something about Arab Americans today. 100 Questions and Answers about Arab Americans (link via kottke) is a great place to start.

Last night Jen and I were watching CNN and they showed the British Royal Guard playing the Star Spangled Banner. I have now seen and heard everything. I wish they had the video online, because I still don't quite believe it.

Why does the US continue to be a target for Islamist attacks? - The BBC posted this story on Wednesday, but I just got around to reading it. It doesn't say anything I didn't already know about my government's involvement in the middle east, but it's still a good article and one that summarizes quite well that the terrorist attacks on Tuesday were not the unprovoked attack on freedom and democracy that our President would have us believe.

"America: The Good Neighbor", Nostradamus predictions, bombs on planes, etc. have been outted as misinformation or are just plain false. (thanks to Karl for the link) Rumors are fun, but please check your sources before you repeat them.

Jason Kottke's maintaining an updated list of firsthand accounts from NYC. TV and radio news may be faster, but they're not as personal. There's something about a personal account that can make an event more real to those of us that aren't as close to it.

Dave Winer's Scripting News is frequently a good source for news links, but has offered really exceptional coverage of yesterday's attacks. I'm linking it again, because Dave's continued to add good links that you might not see elsewhere like this one about American Muslims.

In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks, LexisNexis and Gartner have made a lot of research freely available. (tip o' the baseball cap to Sole and Mick)

Terrorism works. The photos above show people lining up to hoard gas in Columbus, Ohio. Watching the news, I see that at least one gas station closed because it ran out of gas. On a more positive note, Jen and I went to the grocery store to buy some snack food and did not see anyone hoarding food or bottled water.

Locally (again): many more shopping malls, restaurants, parks, and universities are closed. Some will reopen tomorrow and some will not reopen until Thursday.

Columbus Ohio has closed down a lot of downtown. Rhodes Tower was evacuated. Nonessential state employees were sent home. A couple Malls have closed. Cops are donning riot gear. Schools are allowing parents to pick up their children, but classes are not cancelled (this is a good thing). Evening sporting events are cancelled

Last Friday Jen and I, being the lucky Columbus residents we are, made our pilgrimage to the new Apple Store at Easton Town Center. We didn't camp out the night before to make sure we'd be there for the opening like some folks were and we didn't take any video of the event, but we did pick up a couple free t-shirts and took a few moments to bliss out by the big screen running iTunes' visuals. Words cannot describe the feeling of seeing a store that carries such a wide variety of Mac software. I want to go back just to look at shelf after shelf of Mac software. I took some photos of the store just for fun and will post them when I get a chance.

eactivist.org is an excellent starting place for activism links. It promises "eAction in 3 clicks or less" and it delivers. I can't think of a single site that does half the job eactivist.org does at making such a large number of activism resources so easily available. (link via RRE)
