The press release from the FBI listing all of the hijacking suspects. One thing that strikes me -- almost all of the suspects were (or were claiming to be) younger than me.

MSNBC has an article about ten things you can do right now. In place of our cancelled trip to Boston, I'm going shopping tomorrow with the girls to show my consumer confidence. Frivolous? Maybe, but I think it'll help me.

I added a box in the sidebar with links to various donation sites. I know it's hard to see the links, but I don't know enough CSS to fix it -- I'm sure you all get the point. I hope you all don't feel bombarded with solicitations -- I'm just trying to provide as much information as possible. Go here for information on adding the box to your own site.

I agree with Mayor Giuliani that the media needs to be more responsible about their reporting, especially when it comes to possible survivors being found.

I just wanted to encourage everyone to write something, even just for yourself, about your thoughts and reactions from the past few days. Or, if you don't feel like you can express yourself, but you have found other writing which does express, even partly, what you are feeling, print that out. Maybe doing all this genealogy research has made me an amateur historian, but I think that it's important to get down on paper your personal story.

Sarah has posted her account of Tuesday's events, which I found very moving.

Winner of Murder in Small Town X was New York City firefighter, one of first to join in rescue effort, is missing and presumed dead.

I'm sure that by now, everyone has gotten at least one chain e-mail exhorting them to wear a ribbon, fly a flag, or light a candle at 7 PM. You all know, if you read this site with any regularity, how I normally feel about chain e-mails, but I do think that people should do whatever they feel appropriate in the next few days. I think a big symbolic gesture would go a long way towards helping us to heal, as a nation. I kind of wish some national organization would get behind one of these ideas (I personally like the light a candle one) to make things a bit less confusing. But anyway, I just wanted to pass this along, in case you haven't already gotten these e-mails. And also point out that if someone doesn't do any of these things, that doesn't mean that person is any less patriotic, or hurting, or feeling. I think we all need to remember sometimes that people react in their own way, at their own pace. I've seen some posts on message boards that got under my skin a little bit, suggesting that if you don't participate in these activities, you might as well leave the country, and that's exactly the kind of crap that we don't need right now. On a more positive note, I was unexpectedly moved when I drove to the dentist yesterday, and saw that overnight, my town has put American flags on every telephone pole, lining the streets.

A really good point: Sometimes you need to stop watching. It hasn't been as bad today, now that they've stopped showing the worst of the footage, but I was definitely overloaded for a while there.

I have to say that Metafilter has been amazing the past few days. Mostly thoughtful commentary, up-to-the-minute links to news, and worldwide sources.

If you're sick of seeing the same old photos over and over, check out ultradio. Some pretty amazing (not graphic, more human) photos.

In completely different news, Whitney Houston is not dead, despite what you may have heard.

It's so heartening to see (as of 1:30 PM ET) that people have contributed over $2.7 million to the relief effort through Amazon.

I just posted a journal entry, mostly just what my day was like on Tuesday, more for historic significance than anything else.

One of the most interesting first-person accounts I read today -- with pictures.

When the mainstream news sites just keep reporting the same things over and over again, I find it more helpful to read personal accounts, either on weblogs or in journals. Here's a good list of links for you to follow.

We've cancelled our trip to Boston this weekend, since it didn't seem like it would be a very fun place (understandably), so I donated the amount I would have paid to the hotel to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund via the Amazon Honor System. It's heartening to see how fast the amount is climbing, and it's easy to do, if you so desire.

I don't know what to do, so I'm going to post links to alternate sources of information, since people are having trouble getting through to the major online news sources. Here's the first: TV Barn has a good wrapup of the coverage on the various TV news channels.

Jim and I are the exact opposite of this study. I'm always flipping around, whereas he will watch hour after hour of Australian Rules Football without even checking to see if something better is on. I kid because I love.

I'm really excited about Dr. Phil's "Get Real Challenge". Love Dr. Phil.

Aah! This picture scares me. I'm going to have nightmares now.

Isn't it a little early to be releasing "Best and Worst-Dressed of 2001" lists? I mean, there are still nearly four full months left in the year.

This headline is weird: "Pretty Woman Julia Comforts Kate Winslet". It makes you think that Julia rushed to London to be with Kate, and I was like, "How the hell do they even know each other?" Then you read the article, and it turns out that Julia sent flowers.

ABC didn't renew Making the Band, but MTV might. I wish they would, if only because you know O-Town is just going to continue to go down the tubes, and it would be amusing to watch. It's like watching Behind the Music in real time.

Happy Birthday, Jim! I'm glad that we're the same age for the next week and a half. It makes me feel less old.

I almost want to watch Carson Daly: Total Disclosure, just because it will be so, so terrible. And laughable.

Mariah Carey has a relapse. I can't wait until about ten years from now when she writes her tell-all memoir.

A super-cool interview with Joss Whedon who, like Kevin Smith, isn't afraid to talk shit about people in Hollywood. I really admire that.

An interesting story about a soap opera scriptwriter. But if she's writing a spec script, she might want to get the name of the show right. It's Judging Amy, not Chasing Amy. Or it could have been the reporter's mistake. In other news, who knew Lucy Coe was still with Kevin? God, they were together when I used to watch GH in junior high.

I don't know if I've done 4,181 situps in my entire life. This guy did that many in an hour. That's no way to live.

For Better or For Worse generates controversy by bringing back Lawrence, a gay character. That's just so dumb. I mean, I love that comic, because I'm a big cornball at heart. But why would people get up in arms about it? "We have to protect the chilllllldren!" Shut up.

I've been doing genealogy research, and I'm also a big fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder stuff, so this page about Laura's genealogy was interesting to me. I never knew that Pa Ingalls was born in Cuba, New York!

Anne Heche? Loony. I don't mean to downplay her obvious suffering at the hands of her father, but I just think there are some things that the public does not need to know. Like how she heard voices and developed a split personality. Plus, this will only serve to reinforce the stereotype in some people's minds that gay people are crazy.

It's a remake of Footloose with singing AND dancing! Sadly, I will probably watch this.

If you're at all interested in seeing Lost on NBC, but can't watch its original airing, the Travel Channel will be replaying it on Fridays. I've heard much better things about The Amazing Race though.

Is TiVo in trouble? This is probably the one thing that keeps me from buying a TiVo. That, and I keep hoping that my cable company will find a way to turn my digital cable box into a PVR. I don't know why they haven't yet, frankly.

Hank the Angry, Drunken Dwarf died. I don't think that's a big surprise to anyone, given all of the seizures and stuff he had been having. The cause of death isn't listed here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess liver failure.
