Very interesting article about Afghanistan. It's written by an Iranian film maker, there is a bit of bias in it but it is long on details. Deffinitely one of the most informative articles I've read in a very long time. It takes about an hour to read.

I'm usually a very insensitive person. I'm not without emotion, just usually very insensitive. I saw something yesterday that brought me to tears. It's something I keep seeing in my mind, over and over, and each time I want to cry. It wasn't the the plane hitting the WTC, it wasn't the buildings tumbling down, it wasn't the many moving speeches made by the President and others. On CNN I saw a Catholic chapel in London, every seat taken, and people waiting outside unable to get in. There were dignitaries, royalty, and commoners, some were holding American flags. All, were singing our national anthem. I saw pictures of people in Moscow, Germany, Ireland and other places, laying down flowers and cards at U.S. embassies around the world, people expressing sorrow and (the oft repeated) solidarity with the the people of America. Nothing touched me more though, than hearing people in another country, half a world away, joining together and singing the 'Star Spangled Banner'. God has blessed our nation despite this terrible tragedy. Things like this make me so glad to be an American and so thankful for the people who died for my freedom.

Why does the news media keep repeating that this is a "new America"? Why do they keep saying I'm going to have to give up my rights? I don't care which civil liberties I give up when I travel by plane, but I don't see what that has to do with my privacy and civil liberties outside of the airport/airplane. I've read that the FBI as early as this morning was pushing Carnivore on more ISP's. It kinda makes you wonder if this tragedy was protracted, but I don't think like that. Instead I think that unscrupulous individuals and entities will use this situation to push their agendas, and take away more rights that have nothing to do with what happend in New York and D.C..
