Further words from Lao Tzu
He does not show himself; therefore he is luminous.
He does not define himself; therefore he is distinct.
He does not assert himself; therefore he succeeds.
He does not boast of his work; therefore it endures for long.
It is precisely because he does not compete that the world cannot compete with him.

Lao Tzu Says:
The best rulers are those whose existence is merely known by the people.
The next best are those who are loved and praised.
The next are those who are feared.
And the next are those who are despised.
It is only when one does not have enough faith in others that others will have no faith in him.
The great rulers value their words highly.
They accomplish their task; they complete their work.
Nevertheless, their people say they simply follow Nature.
And so it goes...

Keep Crying Mr. Bush
Thanks to Eddie for this one. I think it's a sentiment that more of us could stand to listen to... Or even think about.
Seems a new bout of misdirected anger manifesting itself as an attacks on our own friends is reaching a feverish pitch. Shine on people.

More People to Enlist
I was thinking about this in my pre-dawn delirium today: "Why hasn't the press written about the impact this is going to have on the Armed Forces?" Well, they did.
Funny that Drudge is withstanding a large readership better than the major news sites.

"Doug worked on the 100th floor of the first tower to be hit."
Very sad. On the lighter side... My next favorite quote: "CBS must have really scored that day." Just a few grafs after the author tells the tale of his own score. (Via Ever-Lovin' Dori.)

Bloggers: Studied
Tony takes the Weblogging world by storm with blow-by-blow exposures of the seamy underpinnings of the Cam, Plagiarism, and Entertainment worlds.
I am a fool to keep this site up with the likes of him around. Why blog, when you can read Tony?
Yes, I know that's my pat response to everyone who's good. But, then, he is good... In that "rich and dewy" sort of way.

Fred Says "Hi and Stuff"
Fred's in NYC now, you see. All is right in the world. The cosmic imbalance created by his mysterious, elusive presence in DeeCee has been righted. The globe suddenly spins on an axis just a little more cantilevered than it was before. Things are crooked again, and it feels good. We can toast The Aliens for finally finding a way to Make This Happen. For getting his sticky fingers out of The Pants sitting in the Seat of Power. And into, uh, someone else's pants, where they belong.
Let us pace. (There's too much damn tread on my Sorry Ass hushpuppies as it is.)
Inertia is maddening.

Something Like Kundera With a Coochie
Jami puts to shame that 90% of her readership who failed to respond to her siren call for Yarns of Yearning. I didn't respond. Nay. I'm caught up in my own Mess of Trouble. But you can read her Fistful of Fury for free.
Then shuffle home, newspaper in hand, fedora pulled down over your ears, and wonder what the hell happened to the Old You.
Stop when you're only a block from home and sit on that rusty bench on edge of your neighborhood park. Glance briefly up from your feet only to follow the Burger King wrapper as it rolls down the sidewalk and banks into the gutter. (Two points for the Wind!)
Now look up in the sky with that pique of angst in your eyes and wonder outloud through clenched teeth: Whatever happened to the Fire in Your Loins?
Things could be worse. You could live your life in a brown paper bag. You could discover your lover is a figment of your workaday fantasy. That stale, antiseptic cubicle is not the windowed high-rise office you thought it had been all this time after all.
Next time, promise yourself you'll not wake up before the dream ends. You'll stay. You'll be free.

Dr. Mabuse's Battle with Blogger
Has anyone else been reading this? It appears that Dr. Mabuse has tripped the Fit Fantastic of Evan "Don't Call Me Pyra, It's Evhead" Williams. Some sort of personal e-mail from Mr. Williams demanding that Dr. Mabuse link to Blogger or Else.
Our palette is piqued.
Oh and a p.s. to all readers, he has something mysterious, but very interesting, brewing.

The Myth of Bus Rides
If there's one thing people have warned me about Los Angeles, it's that you "Best Avoid the Bus." Far worse than walking, these same persons have argued, is a trip on the LA bus system. "You can't get there from here," they say, and you'll probably get mugged along the way.
Funny thing that. Tony doesn't seem to agree.
You see, a transportation planner expert friend of mine in DeeCee once told me that, contrary to popular fiction, Los Angeles actually has one of the most elaborate and complex, thorough and timely bus systems in the U.S. That's right. Whatever bus friendly town you live in now, LA actually has one that's giving it a run for it's money.
So take a page from Tony's Theme. You can ride the bus in LA.
