  • The Longest Day
Posted under Linux by Douglas L Stewart (12.33.25.---) on Tuesday September 18 2001 @ 12:32AM EDT
Today was a really long day at work. I didn't get out of there until around 9pm. Now that I've eaten most of a pizza and probably gained a couple of pounds, it's a safe bet that I'll be up for a couple of hours. There's nothing worse than waking up, going to work, coming home, and going to sleep. Even though it's probably bedtime, I'm not going to let the day pass without a little leisure time.

    Safe in San Jose

I caught my flight out of Tupelo today. That's a rather small airport. It's about the same size as Meridian I guess. They had everyone parking on the grass because the parking lot near the airport was closed.

My flight from Tupelo to Memphis was rather uneventful. They checked everyone's bags for bombs, but since there were only 4 people (!) on that flight that didn't take too long.

I then caught my flight from Memphis to San Francisco. I was in first class and didn't really get a good look at the coach section, but I think that plane was pretty empty. First class wasn't full, and that's usually a sign the plane doesn't have many people on it.

When I got to San Francisco I was the only person on the rental shuttle over to the rental car complex. Granted they run a lot of shuttles, but it's a huge bus and it was kind of weird being the only person on it.

Anyway, I eventually managed my way through the California freeways and am safe in my hotel in Mountain View.

    Bowling in Oxford

Avoid Kiamies in Oxford. The bowling alley really needs some renovation. We left before we'd even finished one game because it was constantly getting stuck, pins were falling down when they shouldn't have been, etc. I will definitely be avoiding the place for a while. Fortunately they didn't charge us.

Earlier in the day we went up to Memphis, but we didn't do anything. I must say that Cingular was quite clueless when we went shopping for a new phone for Sarah.

Went into a new steak restaurant tonight and ran into Michael Johnson and his girlfriend Pam there. Ended up eating with them and had a great time.

Tommorrow I changed my flight to take off from Tupelo and return to Jackson. It saved $1200 off the ticket, so even though I'd rather have a direct flight, it was just too much money saved to ignore it.
