This is just sacrilege

Religious Conviction Dad is Buddhist and Mom's faith resides with the omnipotent one. The one Catholics like to call God. Me...well, I really don't have a religious conviction let a alone a congregation to follow. I may "practice" Catholicism as in go to mass on Easter, Christmas, and my birthday. I was baptized at St. Peter's in Chicago, but I've never received my communion and confirmation.

I'm not Catholic and I'm not Buddhist. I believe in some type of divine being but I wouldn't call myself a pagan. I call out to a god just about every other day so we can strike atheist off the list. The only time I claimed to be atheist was when I was young and stupid, and I wanted to spite Mom for whatever reason. I don't think I ever believed in God since my church going days as a child. Well, may be for a brief minute I believed my universe revolved around God.

When I was in elementary school, Mom would take my brother and me to church. Dad would drive us to church and wait in the car at the parking lot while we attended mass. For the longest time, I thought it was the norm until I asked Mom why Dad never came in. "He doesn't believe in God," she said. How can he not believe in God? At that moment, my religious conviction disappeared. She could have made something up like "He has hemorrhoids." That would have sufficed.

Just knowing not everyone believes in God made me rethink why I had to believe in God. Why was I at church? Because Mom told us we had to go. Why did we have to go every Sunday? Because Mom said so. It wasn't because I believed in God. Besides, mass was boring and the seats were uncomfortable.

I don't think I'll ever find myself doing the rosary or going to church on a regular basis. I just can't put so much credence into a religion that makes me feel guilty for every little thing. May be when I have a near-death experience, I'll believe in the divine being that Catholics call God.

After work, I made the grave mistake of bypassing the Eisenhower expressway for North Ave. So there I was sitting on that god damn street with no A/C and old people driving their big ol' Buicks as they hold up traffic. They'll stop at the yellow and their reactions are too slow to make the left turn at the arrow before it turns red. I might as well just park my car in the middle of the street because I wasn't going anywhere. I may be D-U-M-B, but I sure as hell learned my lesson. Old people are scared of expressways and I'll make sure the Eisenhower expressway will be my path home.

I used to work with a man who no teeth. Well, he had one snaggle tooth left. Sometimes I would catch him smacking his gums together as if he had peanut butter stuck at the roof of his mouth. When he would talk to you for long durations, the spit would build up at the corners of mouth. Then he would make this sucking sound to keep from drooling. Not only did he have dried up spit at the corners of his mouth, he also had eye crusties.

You can just hear the crunching of his eye crusties.

It's bad enough people set their cellphone ringers to some stupid song or showtune, but is it really necessary to call someone from the train to tell them you're coming home?

Not so important person: Hi...it's me...I'm just calling to let you know I'm on the train and I'm on way home.

Oh my freakin' god. If I don't care to know you're on the train and on your way home, what makes you think that person listening to your stupid phone call cares as well? I hear that stupid phrase at least eight times before the train departs. Every time I hear that stupid phrase, it makes want to chuck that person's cellphone out onto the tracks. Hi...it's me...I'm just calling...Ahhh fuck you.

For Cindy Crawford, it's a beauty mark. For the rest of us, it's a mole. Mom has this mole smack dab in the middle of her forehead. She bumped her head against the endtable and ended up hurting her mole. She comes up to me to show me her casualty.

Mom: Melisssssssaaaaaaa! Look. I bumped my mole and it started bleeding. LOOOOOK!!!!!
Melissa: *cringes away in disgust* Aaahhhh...NOOOO...don't show me. I don't want to look at it. That's just nasty.
Mom: It started bleeding this morning and now it's all dark.
Melissa: Well, may be it will scab up and fall off.
Mom: I hope so because this mole is ugly.

You don't need to be some brainiac to figure out that Miss Cleo is a big ol' scam. Nor do you need some damn psychic to tell you that your man is shacking it up with some ho because he is.

I know you want to touch me.

A couple nights ago, I had the strangest dream. All this crazy stuff was happening and I only remember this one part. I recall it vividly because god knows what made me dream of it. In my dream, I was sleeping. There was this chewing and ticking sound coming from underneath my bed. Every explicit word was coming out of my mouth because I couldn't sleep with all that racket. So I peered beneath my bed and found a bat. The ugliest looking mammal I have ever laid my eyes on. What the hell was a bat doing under my bed? I grabbed this little winged beast and clutched it in my hands. The bat started screeching and I could see were its razor sharp teeth. I started crying because I didn't know what to with it. I let go of the bat. Then I woke up and ate a lot of honey nut Chex to calm my nerves.

The weather has been major suckage the past week. The average temp has been 95 degrees with a 115 degree heat index. Heaven forbid I have to drive anywhere because the A/C in my car decided to die on me two weeks ago. It's so freaking hot, my car is a portable hell. Who cares if I have to wear a suit to work and sweat like a big ol' mofo. All you jagoffs who wish for this "warm" weather, you got it. Happy now? The grass is so dry, a brushfire is going to start any minute now. Um...yeah.

Mom: Gina should marry Robin (he's my cousin) so she can get massages.
Melissa: Um, okay Mom. Only because she's seen a picture of him and it's this big and blurry. Sure. Why not?

Hey Faith! When you know the colors in clothes won't bleed, you can put them all into one wash. I remember my freshman year in college at good ol' U of I. I was broke and living in the dorms. To save myself money, I would commit one of the biggest sins in doing laundry. I washed the colors and whites together in one load. The first couple times, I would separate my clothes. Then I realized the colors didn't bleed in the wash anymore so I just tossed everything into one washer. Since the dorms had the jumbo, super-heated dryers (Shaq could fit in there with room for Kobe), I only needed one dryer. It was 50 cents for a washer and 75 cents for a dryer. Lets do the math...I only spent $1.25 every two weeks to do laundry. Not bad considering quarters were like gold on campus. I remember being in desperate need of a quarter. Just one god damn quarter. It was Easter weekend and everyone went home for the holiday. I was obviously broke because I couldn't afford a bus ticket home. When I went to do laundry, I was a quarter short for the dryer. The damn change machine was out of coins and I was the only living soul left on campus. Damn it Janet. I decided to use my dollar at the pop machine to get change. I bought myself a Nestea and I expected my quarter for change. As we all know, God doesn't like me very much. I ended up getting two dimes and a nickel.

It would have been okay if the machines didn't only take quarters.

Basics My friends call me Melissa or Mel, but some like to call me the third floor lolita. I'm 5'2", weighing in at 92lbs. People consider me to be a lightweight, but that doesn't mean i can't tear your lethargic ass into shreds of nothing. other than that...I like sunny days, wiggling my jelly, and a nice homemade meal made with love from mom.

Site of the Moment He's oh-so-fresh and just as clean as can be. After visiting his page you'll think Calgon has taken you away. clean.vapid.org is one of the most beautiful sites you've ever laid your eyes on. As your screen fills with vivid colors and mournful words, Tim lets you into his world. Don't be scared. You'll like it there.

Linkage All the links that you see here are my daily reads for the day. I make the time to visit their sites just to catch up on their lives. Sounds sort of stalkerish, but I can't help feel connected to them some how in some way. Whether it's their design or their eloquent way with the English language, they always leave me wanting more. So here's the line up of cool people you should acquaint yourself with:
