I've received several e-mails from online acquaintances sharing sympathies and empathies ... and I just want to say thank you. It's hard for me to reply to your e-mails because knowing that there's a ribbon connecting us all brings huge lumps to my throat. I will be writing back to you so very soon -- just as soon as my eyes clear a little bit.

I've posted this image on another site that I run, but I want to make sure it's available for all of us who need some measure of comfort in these days after the New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania tragedies.

My dad sent this to me after he received it from a colleague. My daddy the Marine. And I've always known that my dad would do anything to protect his family. I don't know if we Americans all realize that the Marine Corps and the other armed forces feel that same protectiveness for all of America. We are their family. So, as the message to my father said:

Be strong and take heart.
