Captain's Log, stardate Thursday, September 13, 2001.

One last thing I'd like to mention before I am cut off from the Internet world again. Every website, talkshow and radio program out there has their opinion on what happened in the US on Tuesday morning. And here is my thoughts just so that no one has to guess on my opinion.

- I don't agree with most of the US foreign policies but I do NOT think that US civilians deserve to take the brunt of retaliation.
- I hope (and would pray if I were a religous person) that the US government only goes after the specific people involved. NOT after a nation or a part of a nation where innocent civilians will be killed, regardless of their views about Americans. They do not deserve to die because of their opinion. Actions or the planning of horrific actions deserve retalliation, the opinions of civilians do not.
- For those I know and the friends and loved ones of those close to me who are involved in the US and Canadian Military, I hope that military action is limited. I want everyone to be safe from harm and to come back home in one piece.
- Terrorism, on any scale, against anyone, is wrong. No matter what the cause or resoning.
- I hope that all countries can start to realize that they need to be tolerant and that all anyone really wants is to be happy and safe in their homes. Everyone else loves their mates, friends and children just like you or I.

Cheers.

The Captain may be heading home, temporarily. If the job front doesn't suddenly turn around for either Dank or myself then he will be picking my sorry ass up on his way back to Cow-Town in a 17" UHaul. We'll throw my crap in the back with his stuff and head for the border. (If it is open again by then.) The perspective date is September 25. A week from Tuesday. It's not a for-sure thing yet, but I will keep you all posted.

Sorry to everyone down here but let's face it. I can't just go work at a McDonalds on my work VISA and the ecoomy is not exactly getting any better down here right now. I hope things change but I thought you kids deserved a little warning. Guess I better start thinking about a going away party...

Here is an editorial I was sent by a couple of my American friends down here. A good show of both Canadians and Americans alike. It is efw and far between when we see something written that represents both countries in a good light. Being a Canadian living in the ol' US of A has definitely changed my opinion of the people here, if not the nation as a whole. It just proves that old theory that experience is the best teacher.

"America, the Good Neighbour

Dave and Shari read this remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Captain's Log, stardate Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

I apologize that updates are few and far between.

My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of those injured or killed today in the absurbdly brutal terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, Camp David / Whitehouse and the World Trade Center. The consequences are far reaching and too close to home. Also, all the borders are closed and no planes are flying. In the US, Canada or Brittain. Depending on the origin of the attack, this could very well be the beginning of the next world war. If things go bad. I'll be heading back north in any way possible and hopefully will be able to bring Miss M with me. If there is a war with any mid-level to major world power, you do not want to be anywhere near a major US city.

The car is in the shop, I'm about to be kicked out of my apartment, I'm almost out of smokes again and people are flying planes into buildings. Wonderful.

This is the Captain again. Just wanted to say 'hello' to everyone. Paz is on his way down to go sand-railing in Southern Oregon. He and his friend will be staying over at my house tomorrow night. I better go and shake the dust off my drinkin' hat. All is well. Well, as good as it can be, all things considered.

Cheers.

This is Miss M and I just fixed The Captain's archive because I'm smart and he's stupid. (Just kidding.) He wanted me to let you know that he is now experiencing Broke Man's Hell on Earth but that he will come out clean on the other side. He has lost 60 pounds from his neverending starvation, but looks like a bronzed god. We are all very proud of him for his stamina - especially me. I will probably be assisting him with his website updates until he gets his arse hooked back up to the Internet. In the meantime, I'm keeping him on a short leash and he's loving every second of it. If you have any extra money, please send him some. Thank you for your cooperation.

I think the website should be working now. Things are definitely down to the wire now. I am completely out of cash. I fucked up my car. (Long story) And the worst part is I am almost out of cigarettes and beer. Things could be worse though. Just wait a week, you'll see. (Just kidding.) Hopefully all will work out for the best.

Miss M's birthday party at CalSport was a success. It was a good group of people and I think we had 35 or 40 in attendance. I only had one drink the entire night (I know, it's shocking) and drove ASLD and home and then brought Miss M home to relax after her big night. We're just getting ready to head out and give her a lift home. I think after that I will be hooking up with Pretty Girl, Mr and Mrs Average and Rex to help Pretty Girl move into her new place.

I just watched the Princess Bride. I love that movie. Not sure why. I just like it.

Just about time to head out to Eddie's. I hope it's fun.

I could lose my Internet connection as soon as tomorrow. I called AT&T and told them I have a new job already, blah blah blah, and they are unreasonable. It's not like I owe them a thousand dollars. My bill is less then $50. However, if I end up leaving here, I will need that money to get my ass out of town so I guess it's soon to be hausta-la-Internet, baby.

I'll try to keep up with the website though. Perhaps there's an empty work station at one of the companies that recently was buried that I can use...

Not to worry though. The website will stay up and functioning. The comments section will not work though. C'est la vie!
