Bond box set announced I've been waiting for them to announce this, Mmm want! A snip at 300 quid :o)

Monday, September 17, 2001

Good grief, after fairly comprehensively breaking the site yesterday, I've pretty much managed to get it back working. Albeit minus my hitcounter. I guess that will teach me to take in strange code I find wandering the internet.

No posts so far today as I had manualy fixed the site yesterday (i.e. commented out everythign in sight till the browser stopped reporting errors), but I didnt manage to fix the blog template till just now. So any post would have broken everythign again.

Still onwards and upwards, now I need to find some hit counter code that actualy _works_ :o)

I've added an experimental new feature to the Lair. Thanks to Sneaker.Org you should now see a comments link at the bottom of each of my blog posts. This should operate in exactly the same way as on livejournal, allowing you to tell me what an opinionated git I am to your heart's desire :o)

If you're interested in the technical side, it runs locally on my server using ASP code and an Access database.

God Gave U.S. 'What We Deserve,' Falwell Says (washingtonpost.com) This is pretty disgusting, even by the standards of the religious right. Up there with 'AIDS is Gods punnishment for being Gay'. The real sick thing is that this kind of fanatisism and hate in the name of God, is exactly what prompts the terrorists to do what they do.

To those who are talking of revenge towards Muslims, read this article. They are to Christians and Americans, what the terrorists are to Muslim society.

I am finding myself becoming increasingly disgusted with the human race. As if the events on Tuesday wern't bad enough, we are now seeing blind hared towards Muslims everywhere, as if they are all responsible for the actions of a few. As I heard on the news this evening, that is like blaming Christians everywhere for the actions of the IRA. Then to round it all off, I've been shocked at the callous and in places offensive way some people are reacting to this.

Its very weird. On the one hand many people seem to be coming together as a community beyond national or social borders, sharing the grief at this terrible event and supporting each other. But at the same time, others are turning on each other like dogs. There is probably some very profound observation to made about people if I could work out the difference between the two groups, but I find myself far too repelled by the hate mongers to study them long enough to discover it.

Hmm, I recently got some plug in thingies to track the visitors to my site and some stats about them. Most interesting is the refering URL's, some of which are really weird.

for example someone searched for 'photos de grosse bizare' in the images section of yahoo. This turned me up since all three words happened to be mentioned on my page one time, albeit in different sections.

Very strange :o)

What to say? Everything that can be felt or said has been on everyones faces today. Thankfully it seems that everyone I know in America is safe, but I cant help but feel intense sadness for the people who lost thier lives. I keep coming back to how it coul dhave been me in a building like that, doing a normal days work at the office. Its terrible.

I have been sickened by the people who have made coments along the lines of 'America deserved this'. I have lost my temper a few times at this, but ultimately most of them are academic navel contemplaters, or children, who arent worth getting worked up over.

So now we have to see what happens next, yesterday was one of those times when the world changed forever. On a parr withthe Berlin Wall falling. We are all afraid at what is waiting for us.

Bleurgh. I'm off work sick, woke up feeling like crap, with the shivers and possibly a temperature as well. Not fun. Had to miss a dentists appointment I had this afternoon and also some important stuff at work. Bloody typical. Anyway, Laurelei has ordered me stay off the computer and in bed, so I better sign off quick.

Ok, two new DVD reviews for the R2 project. One of which (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) managed to cause quite a controversy on the R2 project: message board

More details of Ken road plan lunacy. This is ridiculous, for Gods sake somebody has to stop him. Ken was a lunatic back in the eighties, which is why he was marganalised in the first place. Now he is set to do incredible damage to the capitals infrastructure. Cutting the road traffic into London is a noble goal and one I think should be addressed. But the answer isnt to simply block all the roads without first putting in alternatives. It has already been stated that there wont be any improvment in public transport till 2014, what on earth are all the drivers this scheme will block supposed to do in the interim? If they actualy tried to use the tube or busses, the entire system would simply grind to a halt, the damage to the economy would be incalculable. Not to mention that property prices in central London would sky rocket from their already stratoshperic levels.

goth is fashionable This happens every few years, the goth look supposedly becomes trendy. It never lasts, in fact it ususaly never realy takes hold at all. The article is actualy quite well written, but the prices are funny. 800 quid for as skirt! The average goth would get an entire wardrobe for that, and it would look much better :o)

Ok, done a bit more admin round the site. The new style is now on all the pages, except for the November 2000 Whitby pictures. As there are rather a lot of them, that will need a set of pages. Everything else is done though. I've also updated my personal and friends section as well as adding the pictures from Russells birthday party.

Paraglider hits Statue of Liberty Now this was a Darwin waiting to happen.

vnunet.com Oftel may hit BT where it hurts Wow! Oftel actualty did something usefull for once. This wont directly help my oft grumbled about problems with the way BT continualy cock up our ADSL, but it means they will now be subject to competition in its provision. With a bit of luck Oftel might even pull a rabbit out of the hat and give them a kick up the arse about that as well.
