Fixed the AIM problem I was having (see post below). I'm now using a client of Jabber that lets me log into many Instant Messenger services at once (including AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo's Messengers, as well as Jabber's own). It's VERY stable so far although it appears that AOL sometimes doesn't allow it to tap into its system. 1.22.2001
Ahhh!!! I have a love-hate relationship with technology. Sometimes it miserably fails after it promises to do something...and it makes me want to lift the whole computer up and smash it against the wall. (I know my love for technology is obvious, but I tell you my hate for it is equally intense.) Take for example, when you type a long email message and then for some reason it gets wiped out before you send it. ..or when this "machine of logic" acts utterly illogical and moronically deletes your files or makes them invisible or whatever. So, my latest pet peeve about this sort of thing is with AIM. For some reason it inconsistently (of course, it has to be inconsistent!!!) appears to be logged into the system but really it's not. I mean, 6 of my friends could be online and none would be showing...or the other way around...or--what really gets me worked up--when my connection drops in mid-convo (so I can still see my messages--which, btw, aren't getting to them--and I can't see any of their new messages). I'm sitting there like a dumbass waiting for the other person to reply; meanwhile the other person is writing me wondering why I am either not responding or why I suddenly hung up on them. And there's no way to confirm that it is happening. Yeah...mega frustrating...that it promises one thing than inconsistently fails in its delivery. I guess that's the "cutting-edge" part of new technology. 1.3.2001
Since I don't have anything posted here yet (...waiting for inspiration to strike!), I'll post an excerpt from an email message (unedited, verbatum) that I sent to Julie recently. Oh, I will never turn into one of those losers who's life is so bad that they fall into this delusion that football can replace life. With their team, they can win (..have the feeling of succeeding in life), they can attempt to have some sorry-ass unspoken bond with other sports fans--like being accepted in a 'man' club, and finally they can express themselves by grunting and yelling and getting emotional at the games because they surely don't get very emotional with their spouses and kids (and they need some way to release their dysfunctional need to express themselves and connect with others). The obvious "want-to-be-someone-else" ones are wearing team jersey's with some players name on the back--like they would even come close to filling those shoes! Nope. Won't find me being a super fan. ...and, by the way, it seems like the bigger the fan, the bigger their guts! Talk about vicariously living through sports, Jeez!!! ...a bunch of mindless idiots that give all their money away ($35 per ticket, $3.50 per slice of pizza, $65 for the necessary game jacket or jersey) and then they can't afford to pay their electric bill on time. ...okay, enough of that...sorry. |
