 • Review: House 3
linkrules.gif (1008 bytes)
houseout.jpg (6522 bytes)  Monday the new issue of House magazine arrived in my mailbox, oh joy! The first thing I noticed when I slid it out of the manilla envelope was the fancy cover. Printed in a matte finish and words set in the sacred scroll font all over it in a clear gloss, very cool effect! I'm a huge Daniel Clowes fan so I went straight to that and was thinking maybe it was an interview but no it was even better! The 4 page comic, Art School Confidential, hi-LAR-ious! After I flipped back through it I noticed the Apartment Living spread by the first female contributor Lesley Siegel. Very inspiring stuff that a lettering junkie like me adores. It was only 2 pages long so I wanted a little more ,but then wait I did get more on the front and back of the inside covers! The article on the Las Vegas fonts was something I'd already read and seen in one of the House catalogs so that was sort of disappointing. It was wonderful to see 8 pages devoted to the art of retro chic artist Shag all in vivid high quality color. The Saint Ettiene fashion spread was beautiful but sparse and would have benefited greatly if it had an interview to go with it. That's the only thing that disappointed me about issue 3, the lack of interesting reading material like the Ed Benguiat interview in issue 2 that I really enjoyed. Worth $10? Absolutely!
