This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.

Some woman left the following message on my answering machine today:
"Hi, I'm looking for a Wayne Olson that grew up in Waco, Texas, about 25 years ago. It doesn't sound like you, but if it is and you're single, give me a call at xxx-xxx-xxxx and hopefully I'll hear from you soon."
Having dinner at my grandmother's last night for a family gathering, I was reminded that she is by far the world's greatest chef. I wish I could tell you what we ate, though, but everything had a Japanese name that I can't seem to recall at the moment (or ever, probably). Why don't you just come with me next time and experience the wonder yourself?

Here is the CIA's information sheet on Afghanistan, including a map of the country, from The World Factbook 2000. Interesting factoid: The average life expectancy for a person born in Afghanistan is 45 years. In comparison the average life expectancy in the US is 77 years.
You can also find some really interesting articles and such at the CIA's site for their Center for Studies in Intelligence like the ones found at their publications page. This one looks rather appealing: On the Front Lines of the Cold War: Documents on the Intelligence War in Berlin, 1946 to 1961. If only I had time to read it.

Ugh. I just noticed that there was a typo in the banner. Somehow an extra "T" slipped into September, making it Septemtber. Everything is fixed now and the new image has been uploaded. Sorry to anyone who already downloaded the graphic.

Here is a short bio on Osama bin Laden. Apparently he received training from the CIA during the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

From CNN:
"If any regional or neighboring country helps the United States attack us it would spark extraordinary dangers ... It would draw us into a reprisal war," said Abdul Salam Zaeef, Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan. The Afghan Foreign Ministry did not mention a specific country, but the measure was clearly aimed at Pakistan.
Taliban's supreme leader told his nation Friday to prepare for holy war amid concerns that the United States would target it for harboring bin Laden.
On a related note, my congregation is always careful to pray, as God has commanded, for our leaders in office. I have always known the importance and necessity of doing so, but now I really understand the urgency of such action. Let us continue to pray not only for our nation's leaders, but also for the world's.

A fellow co-worker has a 3-year old son who said this after witnessing the second plane crash into the WTC: "Daddy, that pilot needs to take a time-out because he made a boo-boo." How in the world do you explain to your 3-year old son that the man behind the wheel of that plane was in fact not the pilot but a man gone mad who flew it into the building on purpose? With the intent of killing thousands of people? How do you do that? A part of me dreads the day when I am faced with the inevitable necessity of explaining to my [Lord willing, future] son or daughter the reality of sin and the horror of what it can do in the heart of a man under its influence.

By the way, I realize that some people out there (such as those who use Blogspot) don't have their own web space. If you fit that bill, then go ahead and feel free to link to the "September 11, 2001" button at the top of this page if you desire to use it.
And in case you were wondering, the background picture I used was taken from a Washington Post photo gallery of the devestation brought upon our people by those ruthless villians. The photo itself is a panoramic shot of the scene in New York. You'll notice the Statue of Liberty at the right of the photo; and those clouds in the background aren't natural ones, they're smoke from the aftermath of destruction.

I'm sure that other people out there have already done this, but I was sitting around today and, in light of everything that has happend in the US this week, decided to make the button at the top of this page. If you are so inclined to do so, feel free to post it on your website. But, please, no linking. I'd appreciate it if you would save it in your own files and host it on your own server. Thanks.
