Switching webserver to Apache from IIS. Kinda silly, but I want to look at some of the slashcode/phpweblog stuff out there and a lot of the opensrc crap is centered on Apache. So there's a couple things left to figure out, GG textfiles.

But server lag issues look like they're resolved. I was on for a while last night and saw nary a spike. There's going to be normal amount of net-related lag, but if you played on microwave before you know this isn't what I'm talking about.

OK, onward and upward. Microwave is open to the public for the time being, might be a little spiky here and there, it's also the server that runs the site and stats, etc.

I also am addicted to servers and bought a new one today. If you're in the market, Gateway has a thing where their 6400 server (ServerWorks mobo, 933 PIII expandable, 128MB RAM) can be had for $500 plus shipping. So I'm gonna add a second 933 and a gig of RAM and it's gonna be a beast for $1,000.

Why another server, you ask, gentle reader? Well, couple of reasons. One, I'd like to put another public server up and possibly a second match server. We're going to be hosting the fine young men of eG, many of whom you'll know from TacOpS' girls of the caribbean swimsuit issue.

And we're also going to be doing some hosting for ZiN. And hopefully the TacOpS regulars will also remain a big part of the community, along with SAB, vX, rp, EE and the other 50 or so clans that make SAB and Stinkditch what they grown to become.

Other news dept: Merlin, that famous clan hopper, is rejoining vX. Smoke and I, well we're going to be a part of eG along with Tekniq, DodgeThis, Untitled, Hercules, A-Team, Body Count, RaVaGe, iMouseOne, d0nkey and hopefully a couple of other familiar losers. What does this all mean, to you, Jane Sixpack? Well basically, many clans, one community. And to reflect that, the servers and site--well they really aren't just TacOpS servers anymore, even in name only--so we're gonna change that along with some other things.

Which all boils down to this: sometime after R2K (go signup, you have 3.5 hrs left!), we're going to relaunch the whole shebang under our new community banner and name. And it's a good one, Smoke thought it up--can roo berieve that? So stay tuned, there's more coming up after the break!

Who knows the Facts of Life theme? Good news, bad news dept.: TacOpS is retiring as an active clan in the CS *cough* community *cough*. Which is sad in some ways, and in other ways not sad at all. The SAB/Stinkditch things will most likely go on just like they have been, I think all the admins/owners agree that we're gonna take some time and then figure out what to do next.

Personally, I've always been a bigger believer in community than clans and, of late, I don't know that I've been doing a very good job living up to that. Vitriol has to do what horsecock wants bootyjuice wants to do. That meant nothing, it just amused me. So we'll see what's next, this is kind of like the part at the end of movie where everyone shakes hands and then they put up the little funny titles and tell you who went on to do what.

A big congratulations to TacOpS on tonight's clinching on the BiTE Alpha league championship on train. Apparently the match is still under review because BD-CS wasn't happy with the outcome, but in the end, no matter what comes of it, TacOpS was the better prepared team and it showed in CT round. The final score was 22-12 after TacOpS went 15-2 as CT. GG BD-CS, sorry you understimated us and couldn't accept the initial outcome, but due props to BruteDawg, DodgeThis, Tek, RaVaGe, A-Team and Hercules on a great match.

Looks like the hard shutdown claimed the connections table from the stats. But rather than reset the stats and start from scratch, I just wiped the connections and the historical data is gone. But who really cares about when so and so connected, etc. Rest of the data is intact. We'll probably reset for real again towards the end of the month.

We are family, I got all my sistas and me Dept: Merlin our newest addition to the SD/SAB admin family has gotten his server up and a-running. I'm getting a lot of incredulous feedback about this, apparently folks don't believe Merlin has either power or running water down there in the backwoods.

Just kidding, Merlin, all new admin-types must be hazed.

The IP for Merlin's box is 208.63.117.71:27015, check it out it should be noob-riffic for a bit as we get the word out to the regulars. It'll be integrated into HLStats shortly and up to speed on all other aspect just as quickly.

What we're intending to do is come up with a solid brand identity for the community we're working to develop here and getting all three servers named consistently. The idea is to expand the SAB/Stinkditch family and get a third server in the mix. Any good suggestions that don't involve the use of the word paradigm would merit an email, so drop me a line.

In conjunction with this, we're looking at a site redesign which will probably result in pretty new graphics, pictures of puppydawgs and ice cream, and a wholly orgasmic user experience. So there.

Couple things, you little pederasts: First off, I think we're going to start zeroing out the stats at the end of every month or every other month. It gets a little stagnant and I think some people lose hope that they're ever gonna move around on the damn things. And if Uncle Jesse taught me anything, it's to keep hope alive.

Seriously though, I'm always a little amused at how many people email me this or that question/concern/panic-stricken-cry-for-help about stats. You little stat whores. So we're thinking about doing this and then archiving the top 50 or whatever into a different section of the site, putting the top 3 into a hall-of-i-have-way-too-much-free-time or something.

The other thing that was kind of interesting was someone's suggestion that we maybe have a tournament for server regulars on S-A-B and SD. We might could do that if it was something people were that interested it. Would probably need to be 2 v 2 bracket thing that would play out over an extended period. Who knows. If you're all fired up about this or the stats thing, take it to the forums cheez whiz.

Finally decided to just go ahead and get another server. Ordered the parts today, with some help from a bunch of chuckleheads. Basically, when I get the new box up and running, I'm going to move the gameserver over to the new machine and the website, stats, etc. will get moved over to the existing gameserver. So the only real good news is that the new machine will probably be able to support either additional CS game instances. Am considering maybe a 2v2 match server for folks to use, maybe a private Tacops server so we don't have to lock the main box so often for practice, etc. And it should cut down on some of the in-game lag that probably happens when the little Stinkditch Deskpro-that-could gets overwhelmed.

Because the new machine's gonna be like Smoke: fast. Athlon 1.2GHz, 266FSB, 512MB DDR SDRAM, 60GB 7200rpm UDMA100 drive.

So we'll see how long it takes to get everything delivered and put together. But should be getting it taken care of.

We're also hearing that we may be able to bring a third dedicated server into the family, but I don't have timing or certainty on that so I won't go blabbing about it yet.

Updated the stats to version 1.01 tonight. Big whup, you say. Sorta. There's some new /set command support now that's kind of cool, but I haven't tested it yet. Supposed to let you set your player info in the stats database from the say prompt in-game. So you hit chat and go "/set email smoke@mypole.com" and your email will automagically be updated on your stats page. Kinda cool. But have not tested it yet and it's definitely not working yet on S-A-B. Had a bunch of bug fixes and some other little stuff.

You can also check who's on S-A-B server playing too by clicking the server link at the bottom of the main stats page. We'll get this a proper direct link from the navigation menu real soon, probably this weekend.

Also, I think I'm going to try a couple of the adminmod plugins in the next couple of days on the Stinkditch gameserver. Autokick for chat flood, and some other silly stuff. That's it for now, go ahead and try and win my soiled bloomers, you silly llamas.

I was mucking with my aliases last night. Yes, I kept adding bind "~" "toggleconsole" over and over again to switch back after I'd tried to bind toggleconsole to something a little further from my get pistol key. I tend to open the console a lot by accident. Yes, I am a huge spaz, I realize that. After about the third try, I figured it out. Great.

More useful information department: atx from vX let me know that they're sending a squad into to Dallas to represent at the CPL. Good luck bishes!
