Pippy: Python for the Palm. "Our goal is to incorporate changes to Python that reduce the effort of porting this useful and expressive language to small and embedded device platforms. The Palm is an appealing target platform for Python and raises challenging technical requirements including: Reducing the virtual machine memory footprint, Reducing the consumption of stack and dynamic heap space, Integrating with the PalmOS, Merging the required changes into the standard Python distribution, Refactoring Python to accommodate smaller architectures." posted by Bryan Morgan on 9:20 PM   link

Talk about FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt)!?! - Jim Allchin of Microsoft has taken it upon himself to champion the "American Way" in his company's fight against all things open source. To quote Allchin: ''Open source is an intellectual-property destroyer,'' Allchin said. ''I can't imagine something that could be worse than this for the software business and the intellectual-property business.'' Well, I can think of one thing (Microsoft Bob) but we won't go there.

I happen to be reading Crypto by Steven Levy now and it's easy to draw parallels. The enemy of public cryptography was the NSA, who basically fought every step forward tooth-and-nail in the name of democracy, freedom, and apple pie. Interesting that Microsoft is self-anointing itself as the standard bearer of the American way when that country's very government is threatening to split the company into pieces. posted by Bryan Morgan on 4:09 PM   link

Popular Wireless Networks Vulnerable to Attack - I haven't done enough reading yet to determine whether this is just a theoretical exercise or if, in fact, WEP is severely compromised. If so, Ooops....there goes the wireless LAN neighborhood. posted by Bryan Morgan on 3:46 PM   link

Comparing Prices, With No Wires Attached - Good article from a non-techie. The point is that the service is cool but the implementation is not. Also, there is something to be said for instant gratification! posted by Bryan Morgan on 9:59 PM   link

The Fate of Pyra, and therefore, Blogger. It's sad to me because this is actually a very useful product. A year ago the Yahoos/AOLs would have gobbled it up. The dot-com crash actually affected a few good companies as well. posted by Bryan Morgan on 9:38 AM   link
