Still waiting on the dv camera; I suspect I will have to get a different capture card, possibly a hybrid of firewire and analog/digital technology. The DV500 is what I have in mind, but it's a bit pricey.

Thoughts on the commute today: Excerpt sample from the overwrought "Altered States": "I am on fucking fire...." Paddy, w'happened?

The bummer continues. Good news is, however, that the Pinnacle IEEE1394 card is Okay. However, the firewire port in the camera is apparently the culprit in this saga. So I have to send the cam to the regional service center, where it will probably remain for three weeks or so. Shit. My wife says that will give me time to focus on my music and other stuff, and she's right, but I can't help but be a little disappointed. I think I'll work on the script of American Mime while the camera's gone.....I won't be able to edit the wedding footage of course until the camera returns in fine functional condition. My fear is that JVC will say, "The port works just fine. It probably just doesn't like your card." Great. Then what? I guess I'll have to find a compatible card then..... The technical aspects of being a potential auteur can really getcha down....Guess I'll just have to make Lemonade, with agave as sweetener....

I'm bummed. I now have a great digital videocam, all kinds of ideas and "footage," but my Firewire card is sucking heavily, making production impossible. I sent complaints to Pinnacle, who has yet to respond. I may just have to "eat" this shitty card and go ahead and buy a decent one. I must say, though, that I liked the StudioDV software; in conjunction with Premiere, you could do some interesting things. Soooo, real editing is on hold until I get a better firewire solution. I thought about getting a standard capture card, and using S-Video, but why? That's why I got IEEE1394, to go completely digital, right?!!! Very frustrated videographer I am at the moment...

I've got it. Your wreaka. A movie about making a movie--what an original idea. Rather, the idea is to use old ideas, to be completely utterly comprehensively derivative--with the American ethos "work dumber, not harder," or take advantage of lowest common denominator dynamics and be sure to hide the artifice. Go to IMDB and search for American__________. See that all have been done, except for Meme and Mime. Rambo meets Caine, Kung-Fu meets Death Race 2001: the Update. Roadkill. How many points? Real Don Steele can't make cameo, however. So you get the idea, of course. Plenty of opportunity for self-referential pop cultural references so Tarentino, with a blend of the intellectual cuisinartifice of Dennis Miller. Fun fun. Fundamental case.Underachieving, and loving it. Accepting mediocrity as the human condition. Middle of the roadkill. Roadkilling. The coyote ain't after you, he's splattered all over the freeway, dude.

I am thinking about changing this blog to "American Meme," but that may tip the obviosity scales a wee bit. Old Dick Dawkins can be the patron saint. Unwillingly, of course. Resistance is necessary. Feudal? "My brain will go on," sayeth Saline DeYawn, with requisite hyperbole (putting exclamation points where others place periods). Am I extreme? Am I seeing merely the polarity, not the gray, the middle ground? Perhaps. Pervertising, play on adverteasing. Every consumer has a small box in his head....Will concupiscenteen Antony die a horrible death? No. He may be somewhat tamed, but the fire remains. With such prodigious gonads, whatayagonnado? Let me not rationalize.American Mime becomes American Meme; rampant ideation, trends, megatrends, gigatrends, post-modern drip drip, dis-easy, the Eagles on Cracker Jacks....

Obviously this project never really progressed beyond mere brainstorming. Speaking of which, that will be the new charter for this particular blog: mere brainstorming. Precipitation is expected...
