And the Nominees are...
I am sure right now that everyone has an opinion to who is going to win this year at the Oscars. I frankly don't since I haven't seen any of these movies. Despite that I still have favorites. The trailers for Chocolat look really good, so I am pulling for that one to win a best picture nod. I am a big fan of Bjork who was not nominated, so I'm basically boycotting that segment of the show -- travesty I know. In the Supporting Actress category I want Kate Hudson to win I think she is adorable even though she's married to that really creepy looking Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes. I did see Kate Hudson in 200 Cigarettes, which I hated every minute of, except for her scenes, which were hilarious. For Leading Actor I am pulling for Tom Hanks because one of my favorite movies is Sleepless in Seattle (I hated You've Got Mail). I didn't see Traffic and probably won't because it's not my kind of movie (looks like it might leave me with nightmares) but I want Benico Del Toro to win Supporting Actor because I loved him in Excess Baggage.

You can look for ward to tuning in for the disturbingly long acceptance speeches, the beautiful gowns and fake applause, to be aired on March 25 5p(est) on ABC.

Solo Child
Kelly RowlandIt looks like Kelly Rowlands of Destiny's Child is ready to share some of the spotlight with her cousin Beyoncé Knowles. As her impetus she is using a song on the Chris Rock movie entitled Down to Earth, coming out in February. This will make Kelly the first member of Destiny's Child to go solo.

Angel, the name of Kelly's song on the SDK. will mark the beginning of a series of solo projects that each member has planned for the coming years.

Tragedy Strikes Limp Bizkit Concert
Friday at Sydney RAS Showgrounds which was hosting Australia's annual Big Day Out festival a 18 year old girl suffered a heart attack shortly after Limp Bizkit took the stage. While some 30 plus others fans were also hurt, prompting the band to leave the tour. Fred Durst

According to the Sydney Morning Herald the young girl was clinically dead when security pulled her from the mosh pit. The young woman who's identity was not released to the public was resuscitated after having oxygen pumped into her lungs and receiving an adrenaline shot from emergency medical technicians backstage. She was then transported to Concorde Hospital in Sydney, and remains there under observation.

One eyewitness described what took place as "a war scene," according to accounts in the newspaper and the Australian Associated Press.

The catastrophe apparently took place when the band took the stage, some persons in the 55,000 crowd rushed toward the stage, stampeding over fellow concert attenders. Twenty minutes into their set Limp Bizkit stopped the show, as the heart attack victim was pulled out of the crowd. As this was taking place Fred Durst asked the crowd to "chill out."

They band went on record in a statement they released that they wanted to end their set when the girl was pulled out of the crowd but was urged by security to continue playing. Security apparently feared a riot would break out if they stopped. Afterward, Limp Bizkit departed from the festival leaving the promoters to find a replacement for the three remaining Big Day Out concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth.

Limp Bizkit claims the promoters "cavalier attitude toward fan safety," forced them to pull out.

[Deb: I remember my first time in a mosh pit it was scary, fun and exhilarating all at the same time. I never imagined at the time that something like what happened to those fans, or that poor girl could happen to me. But, my mother did after seeing news reports, so my first time in a mosh pit was also my last. Though I understand where my Mom is coming from, that was the best concert experience I have ever had. What about you do you prefer to sit, hang back, or mosh?]

How much does he weigh?
rattleI don't know why, but for some unknown reason, as soon as you find out someone has had a baby that is what you ask. This time it is no different, with the arrival of Rene Charles, born Thursday morning in Florida to Celine Dion, and her husband Rene Angelil. The delivery apparently took place three weeks before her due date. This is the pop Diva's first child.

Welcome to the world sunny boy. Oh, and by the way he weighed in at 6-pounds, and 9-ounces.

Retraction, or Distraction?
Are they or aren't they? You savvy people make the call. One day after the rags (the Daily News, and moi) said that J. Lo. and Puff Daddy had called it quits they have decided to dispel the rumors through "their people."

"They have not broken up. They are absolutely together," Jennifer Lopez spokesman Alan Nierob said in a statement Wednesday. Puffy didn't want to go on record, but he insisted that he and Jennifer had not broken up.

[Deb: to me it all smells a bit fishy, I think they're just holding off the news until she is finished her publicity with her latest CD, and movie. What do you think?]

Are your cheese puffs ready?
I don't really go in for football (it's just not my bag), but for you tom boys and football lovers out there N*syncI am sure you will be tuning in with me on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl's (aired on CBS, from Tampa, Florida's Raymond James Stadium) half-time show produced by MTV. Featuring these talented chart toppers Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears, N'sync, and Aerosmith. Promised is a performance of Aerosmith's classic Walk This Way (hear it on napster) first made in 1976, and re-released in 1986 with rap group Run D. M. C., it will be sang and rapped by the above artists. The last number will end with alternating hits by N'sync, and Aerosmith, who will sing their new single Jaded (the last number is apparently not set in stone though because rehearsals have just begun).

For the preshow they have in store for us The Backstreet Boys who have agreed to croon The Star-spangled Banner, and legendary Ray Charles who will serenade the crowds with an old standby for him America the Beautiful.

The preshow entitled Life's Super in Central Florida will include, Sting singing last summers hit Desert Rose(hear it on napster), and Bon Jovi.

cheesepuffFor you who are making the track southward, you can look forward to a bit by Styx who will be rolled into the stadium on a mock ship, dressed as pirates. Unfortunately you will have to be in the stadium to see that piece of cheese puff, because it won't be televised. The whole shindig will be hosted by King of Queens star Kevin James.

Puffed Out
Yesterday the New York Daily News printed an exclusive story that had long time girlfriend and boyfriend Jennifer Lopez, and Sean Puffy Combs & Jennifer Lopez Sean "Puffy" Combs splitting. This expected news drops as Jennifer has hit the road to promote her latest flick The Wedding Planner, and her awaited sophomore effort J. Lo. The news paper reported that Jennifer initiated the part, and that she has already moved on. When questioned about the article Puffy was quoted to say "I'm happy for her. I'll always be there for Jennifer, whether business or personal." Puff Daddy went on to promote his new girl group Dream calling them "the biggest debut of 2001." The New York Daily News also claims that Jennifer has already moved on; dating a dancer from her latest video, Love Don't Cost a Thing. [Deb: And I thought that video was about Puffy's millions.] Jennifer Lopez, is not commenting at this time.

That award show where globes are golden
Did you find last evening's Golden Globes entertaining? Not, really? More like mind numbingly boring, but you felt obligated to watch? Me too. Well, I'll take that back, there were a few good speeches (I can't believe I just wrote that) that kept me from going comatose. Like George Clooney's, he's always pretty humorous, Bob Dylan's was quite coherent and funny, Ang Lee's kept me from snoozing, and it was nice to see Julia Roberts win something; after all these years it's about time she won something! Elizabeth Taylor was cute when she didn't know how to present the award, unless of course she was drunk, in which case it wouldn't be cute it would be sad, tsk. Her soberness was discussed at length in my house, I don't know about yours, we're funny that way. Anywho, since Deb couldn't do it, she asked me to give you the entire lowdown on who won last night. Since I'm in charge, I'm only going to post the ones which I thought were important, or worthy of mentioning, and since I didn't see many of the nominated movies it's going to be a short list. Is that okay with everyone?

All righty, here goes:
Best Film (drama)
'Gladiator'

Best Film (comedy/musical)
'Almost Famous'

Best Foreign Language Film
'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' (Taiwan)

Best Series (drama)
'The West Wing,' NBC

Best Series (comedy/musical)
'Sex and the City,' HBO

Best Actress (drama)
Julia Roberts - 'Erin Brockovich'

Best Actor (drama)
Tom Hanks - 'Cast Away'

Best Actress (comedy/musical)
Renee Zellweger - 'Nurse Betty'

Best Actor (comedy/musical)
George Clooney - 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'

Best Supporting Actress (motion picture)
Kate Hudson - 'Almost Famous'

(me: She'd better hope she doesn't win the Oscar for this one. Previous winners have been cast to nowhere land. Anyone seen Mira Sorvino, lately?)

Best Supporting Actor
Benicio Del Toro for 'Traffic'

(me: He was excellent in Excess Baggage, but that's just the trash in me. I should probably like this movie much better.)

Best Actress (comedy/musical series)
Sarah Jessica Parker, 'Sex and the City,' HBO

(me: She looked fabulous in her dress!)

Best Supporting Actor (series, miniseries or TV movie)
Robert Downey Jr., 'Ally McBeal' Fox

Best Actress (drama series)
Sela Ward, 'Once and Again,' ABC

Ciao Bella,
Sophie

Why Dream Is A Nightmare For Puff Daddy
More trouble in sight for Sean Combs a.k.a. Puff Daddy. He's being sued over his new girl group Dream. Judith Fontaine, a talent agent, and owner of Fontaine & Daughters Productions claims that she and her daughter are the true establishers of the group; founded through a nation-wide talent search hosted by their production company in 1998. Fontaine is now suing Puff Daddy and Dream for unfair competition in a suit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Kenny Meiselas, Combs' lawyer issued a statement about the suit calling it, "a nuisance lawsuit that is groundless and without merit." He went on to say that, "The group members, their names and songs are all different, and any interest Ms. Fontaine had with the remaining members was terminated years before the girls even met Puffy." Bad Boy, Burns and Arista Records are also named in the suit.

If you check out Billboard you'll notice that the groups current single "He Loves U Not," is #3 on the Hot 100 singles. Their new album, It Was All a Dream, will be released on Tuesday. I'm sure this will be sufficient publicity to make it chart well, in fact you can pre-order your copy today.

'Everday,' anticipation!
While you're waiting for the new Dave Matthew's Band CD Everday, to arrive (pre-order it today) whet your palate with a free download of the track 'I Did It' which appears on the album. The song sounds different for them, really up-tempo and grooving, and more than likely a good indication of what the rest of the album sounds like.
