........................................................................Not part of the BLOGGING Tutorial but this is pretty interesting and underscores this blog's title.Visit 6 Billion Human Beings featuring the more than 6 billion human beings on Earth counter. According to the population estimates released by the United Nations, the 6 billion mark was reached on October 12 1999. Every second five people are born and two people die, a net gain of three people.
Be sure to enter your age (click the Plus or Minus buttons). It's sobering to compare the 2,311,796,000 souls that inhabited the Earth when I was born yet this site's counter was spinning the number 6,011,478,847 people at the exact moment I hit Post to Blogger and Save to Server.
(Following are the four posts making up the BLOGGING Tutorial)

Post #1 at Nov 27, 1999 to make this How-To Use BLOGGING meaningful
Blogging really doesn't need a how-to unless you are unfamiliar with entry-level HTML, the presentation language that stands behind all pages on the Web, as the www.blogger.com site steps you through setting up your first trial blog.Edit Blog Properties, Edit Blog Template, Archive, Post, and Save to Server functions will also be familiar territory to any web author. The Pyra people behind this site are hands on, sharp, and always active in the Blogger forum (Pyra.com also offer a free integrated with Blogger collaborative project tool but this is in beta for the brave or those unfazed when their Windows registry goes for a burton). Be sure to check both products, Blogger and Pyra; their fora (plural of forums) settled all my doubts.
The power of blogs is awesome in that you can add content to your weblog, or blog, from absolutely anywhere you have access to the Net. What a blog can be is limited only by your own imagination.
Seeing by doing is believing so in a brief list I'll explain the steps taken to put together this blog you are reading. It is made up of four posts:
That's about it! Took me five minutes to type Post #1, post it, then serve it to the Web, whereas consolidating all the contents on this blog took a fraction of that time. By the way, this blogging is free. I'll have to watch my spelling: blogs make simple web content authoring so accessible it's easy to get carried away and I still need to learn to type.
- Post #1 Logged in to www.blogger.com to edit my blog. Only purpose of this first post being to explain the next three posts... Typed and posted it, after review in edit pane, then saved it to my website server.
- Post #2 Post instantly from any web page!
If you use Internet Explorer 4 or 5 for Windows, here's an even quicker way to update your blog: Right-click on any page on the web, select "Blog this!" from the context menu, and instantly bring up a Blogger form, populated with a link to the current page and any text you have selected. You can add a menu entry for each of your blogs by clicking on the Add to Browser Menu link on the right of your blog edit view.
Well, reading a post in the Blogger user forum I found this pertinent commentary, selected the text with mouse, right-clicked (having downloaded free Blog this! widget and installed it in the right-click mouse context menu in Internet Explorer 5) and clicked on Blog this! item. IE5 pops open a window asking if I want to post the selected text to my blog on the blogger server or go ahead and Post and Save it to my own website server directly. Chose the latter to save the extra save to server step.- Post #3 Prior to this I'd noted the URL of the above web author's comments and visited his site (Michael Futreal of www.digitalofframps.com) to see how he was using a blog. His accolade about www.blogger.com fit my purposes so I highlighted a few lines on his webpage, then went through same save to server spiel as in Post #2.
- Post #4 I'd built a simple little HTML donations stats table to make updating easy, posted it to Tracking The Hunger Site blog, then saved it to my webserver at Earthlink.
To recap, blogs can be made up of content from a variety of sources as we've seen here where Post #2 and #3 were extracted verbatim from web content by Michael Futreal and Post #1 and #4 were written by me.
Archiving your blog content requires a little bit more care and attention, and I'll leave that to any viewer who runs with this great web authoring idea.
There's nothing static about blogging. Today is Sunday, November 28, and I'm editing Post #1 and #4 both originally posted Saturday, November 27. Note the linking off the Blogger template (if click the link italicized immediately below this blog's title, Tracking The Hunger Site) into the stats table in Post #4. It can't get much simpler, as long as you always remember to use unique HTML tags.

blogger.com is a web based tool for managing a weblog. The biggest challenge for free-lance web-authors is going throught the machinations of editing web documents -- ftping and marking up things; making sure new material fits into the existing page. Blogger can fix all that for you. Check it out.

Take a visit to The Hunger Site, a nonprofit website with the simple mission to raise money for United Nations World Food Programme. This UN program sees to the distribution of food to those in need due to economic/political disasters, misfortunes and abuses. thehungersite.com allow you to "make a donation" by simply viewing the ad-banners of sponsoring companies (advertisers make the actual contributions by way of paying for the ads the site serves to concerned viewers).
Great stuff. This is the web at its best. Go there and click the button. You see web banners all the time, right? Why not submit yourself to a few more and cause a bit of money to be donated to the UN's World Food Programme? You can visit and precipitiate a donation once per day -- put them in your bookmarks.
