production notes - candi apple
--> filmed summer of 2000 - fit in between vacations and other summer plans.. with some difficulty. part of the reason it was never completed.
--> written over a few extremely late, hyper nights by alex and ellen.. written so alex could play a superstar and dance around in sparkly outfits, and ellen would finally get her "evil" role in a major motion picture... andrew, being the only (enthusiastic - abbas is bribed) actor at our disposal at the time (aside from incredibly talented) is immediately cast in the male lead. heather and sarah find themselves playing multiple roles. many other people were cast without their knowledge and we never really did get ahold of them.
--> many memorable screw-ups.. perhaps more memorable than the scenes themselves. eg. "um.. just get her", false starts, filming the lamp somehow even though the camera was on a tripod, the incident with alex's shorts, when andrew starting reading alex's lines, the delightful vaguely italian accent andrew sometimes developed, "stupid!", "don't saaay that", the weird things ellen's voice often did (beyond the weird ways she managed to sit), practicing in the bathroom of somebody else's house in their clothes with the steam on and kitchen utensils (thankfully this is not on tape), the entire scene between sarah and andrew, "milaaaaaaan", how all of our lines ended up sounding obscene.. "i'm sure you'll want me after you take a look at it".. barefoot, pantless movies (especially andrew..), the number of times ellen said "darling" or "dear" or something affectionate in a horribly fake way, "it's silly, willy..", "i feel so.. alooone", filming outside and having horrible sound because of the wind.. i could go on but i'll spare you the rest.
--> note to selves : romantic comedy? never again.. running straight from the scripts without any rehearsal let alone attempt at memorization, visible in laps, snuck into magazines and held against purses? probably will happen again, but certainly shouldn't. (bad form! hehe) other lessons learned include.. don't write movies based on being able to say certain lines or play certain characters (we will forget that fairly soon of course)
