Rasberry
Well apart from NOT getting drunk and relaxing I haven't been up to much over the holidays. I know it's close to the final portfolio deadline but I needed to sit back and gather my thoughts. Luckily, wether that was something I could afford to do or not I'm now all charged up and ready to get stuck in.
I've just put the finishing touches to my short 28 second animation 'Rasberry' which I completed from start to finish in 4 days. That's pretty good going considering what I had to do; Draw each Cel, Colour it with charcoal, fix it (and leave the room for about half and hour!), draw over it in ballpoint pen and add the little red tounge with red felt tip. I then had to individually scan, save and resize EVERY SINGLE Cel. Post production was done in a day. I added the titles which were done in Complete Animator (probably the first time I've found a productive use for that program) then I added the copyright notice at the end, created the music (improvised by myself I might add) and created all the sound effects. Rest assured I felt really stupid sitting at my computer screen blowing a rasberry at my microphone for 20 full seconds while my sister passed by.
Anyway, I got a result and I'm very proud of it. Unfortunately I'm having problems exporting it to the DiVx Codec so I can't upload it at the moment 'cos it's about 14Mb. I'll see If I can sort it out though and then you can all see it real soon.

out of pocket
The fact that my sketchbook won't fit into my jacket pocket is a bigger hindrance than you would think. I wish the weather was better too. No sign of snow for Christmas- but no sign of the rain stopping either.
I'm really tempted against taking my sketchbook around with me for the simple reason I can't stick it in my pocket. It would be handy to pull it out wherever I happen to be and 'note' down anything interesting but I can't carry it about in my hand 24 hours a day.
I need a new jacket with an A5+ pocket. I never saw this one coming...
No really. This is genuinely quite a serious issue (but I don't think I have the ability to convey this properly so just keep laughing at me and I'll deal with it...).

sketchbooks...sketchbooks...sketchbooks...
Well christmas is almost here but that means nothing to me (well, of course it does but....) I have a lot of work to do. Just under 2 months to go and no time to mess around.
My sketchbooks filling up but I need to have 3 fully completed sketchbooks for mid February. I've been drawing in my sketchbooks since August last year, only to discover I had the wrong idea all along. First I used my sketchbooks for finished drawings in a small format. Then I used them like a scrapbook of my best smaller pieces. THEN I used them like a small project book. Now I've finally realised what the hell I'm supposed to be doing. I can't beleive I've worked on it for over a year and it's all for nothing and I have to run at the last minute but actually that's great, in a way.
Due to the tight time limit I don't have time to mess around. Whenever I see something that makes me think. An intresting shape or an inspiring image- I draw it immediatly, if it turns out crap, well that happens and I move on. Everything I see that inspires in anyway no matter how small is going into my sketchbook and this is a very good thing. Pity my other 6 odd half finished sketchbooks are sitting gathering dust. But I wasn't using them in the way that sketchbooks are supposed to be used so no matter. I'm really getting into the sort of 'coolness' of the sketchbook. It's fun to look though it (even the crap ones) and pick out bits and remember why you drew it and sometimes something clicks, the ball starts rolling and so does your next project...

Application Form
I've almost finished filling out my Art College application form. I've just gotta find out what level some of my modules are at so I can put them under the 'Qualifications Pending' section. Then I have to attach the cash to go with it and get my references, which won't be a problem. Now I think about it I'm not sure if I send the application form myself or get my college to send it off. Have to get that checked out...
