Urban Legends Reference Pages: Rumors of War

Definitely one to watch. I'm sure this will grow.

War on Whom?

what?? (it's my new favorite word)

Is Michael Moore right? Did we fund the Taliban $48 million this past spring for the freaking 'war on drugs'?????????

I think my head is exploding...literally. Ice picks right between the eyes...

Valley mourns apparent backlash killing

Within 30 minutes Saturday afternoon, police say, Frank Roque, a 42-year-old Mesa resident, fired shots in three incidents. They say he first drove a black Chevy S-10 pickup to a Chevron gas station and opened fire, killing Sodhi, 49, the owner.

Roque then headed to a Mobile gas station, where police say he fired at a Lebanese-American clerk, but missed. Ten minutes later, Roque arrived at a home he used to own and fired multiple rounds, police said. A family of Afghani descent now lives there. Nobody was injured.

NOVA NOTES : HEADING IT OFF AT THE PASS or A MINOR CASUALTY

What?

You requoted your letter to me because of worries about an explosion from me?

Please. I have bigger problems on my mind that arguing with you - don't you?? It was read and deleted, which is basically what I was serving notice of - that I'm not in a place to enter into that sort of discussion. Carry it on without me and don't pound it into my ears. You said what you feel, I said what I feel...and let's hope the country remains the sort of place we both can.

And other than you and one other person, everyone else seems to have understood it the way it was intended.

Peace. Go hug your children or do something more productive than firing a shot over my bow, ok? Christ.

Team from National Geographic Killed in Pentagon Crash

This is becoming the saddest story for me that's coming out of the Pentagon portion of all this...

They were traveling with three local area children and their teachers for a field trip to California. The kids are from a couple of urban schools in the area, and their fellow students have spoken... junior high kids I could easily see hanging out with Jackie... there's just something about those kids, talking about their friends and how they didn't get to say goodbye... it just keeps shattering the layers of calm I keep trying to apply.

I feel like one of the buildings surrounding the ruins of the WTC... still standing for now, but shattered and fragile enough that it will take very little to make me collapse.

And we're all in the same shape, aren't we?

Callers Harass Embry-Riddle Aeronautical U. in the Wake of FBI Search of Student Records

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., has received telephone calls asking the university to expel its Middle Eastern students and accusing it of "training terrorists" in the wake of news reports that some of the hijackers in the jetliner attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon this week might have received flight training at the campus...

Embry-Riddle trains more than a quarter of the commercial airline pilots in the United States. The Daytona campus enrolls 4,800 students, 12 percent of whom come from any of 108 foreign countries.

The New Yorker: The Biggest Foundation

An article that dates back to 1972, talking about the WTC being built.

I knew that besides the two skyscrapers, each thirteen hundred and fifty feet high, at least three other buildings would be erected on the sixteen-acre site: an eight-story structure for the United States Customs Bureau and two nine-story ones for exhibits, meetings, and trade activities, around a five-acre plaza. To accommodate this extraordinary new assemblage within fourteen blocks of jammed lower Manhattan, the Port Authority had condemned a hundred and sixty-four buildings then standing on the site—including the big, rambling headquarters of the old Hudson and Manhattan Railroad, now the Port Authority Trans-Hudson System, known as PATH—and had closed off parts of five streets that ran through it. I had studied the map, and knew their names—Cortlandt, Dey, Fulton, Washington, and Greenwich.

It's been so long since I've had pics taken, I figured I ought to post them. I've conveniently cropped out the part that shows how badly I need to haul my butt to the gym.

I had to fuzz out a bit of background - I was at a housewarming for Michael and one of his other guests was lifting his shirt up and begging for beads. (no...really...)

I just figured he might not want to stumble over a picture of his belly button unexpectedly.

I'm not mad or bored or depressed or whatever this might look like I am. I'm listening very, very intently to Bead Man explain how the rules for Scattergories meant he won everytime, no matter what!

We let him win, or course... no one wanted to risk another look at the belly button!

GW to Shut Down During IMF Protests

hmm... I'm not exactly excited about the coming protests, but this doesn't sit right with me. The police have asked GW University to shut down - too much congestion, supposedly, if they're trying to conduct classes during the protests.

Ok..fine. But turning people out of their dorms? That's purely political, and it's deciding that because they're college students they're automatically going to somehow be disruptive if they're anywhere in the area...

erg. That ain't right, and the college shouldn't be doing this.
