05.11.01 :: The End

It's the end of my junior year, I'm flying back to LA tomorrow, and I'm strangely left... empty and sad. I dont think my junior year was brought to the end with the best of my abilities... I slacked and I finished less than par. Sigh. I'm looking forward to the summer...yet it's a summer of uncertainties. I'm not sure where I'm going to actually be, where I'm going to be working, or how I'm going to make a living this summer. I'm waiting on McKinsey Consulting in Seoul, Korea, a law firm in LA and some corporations and government agencies in DC. I have no idea where God will take me, and I'm scared. I know I should rely on Him completely, having faith that He'll take care of me...but I'm scared. Well, I'm going back to California, and I'm hoping it's going to be a rad summer of awesome work experience, pay, aggressive inline, beaches, God and maybe even a girlfriend. Haha. That last one probably won't happen. Who knows though?

I'll be adding a lot of new pictures to this site soon as I've been taking an excessive amount of pictures on my nifty digital camera. Check back soon. Maybe you'll even be on IsoGenLabs.com. Then you'll be global baby. It's on, and it's on, and it's on. You're money and you don't even know it.

05.09.01 :: Game Over!

So my junior year is officially over! My last final has been taken and I`m ready for summer. I`m still waiting on McKinsey Consulting and a law firm in LA and some places in DC... Where will I be this summer? That`s the question I would like to answer...

05.03.01 :: Finals

Finals is the survival of the fittest. Darwinism doesn`t apply anywhere so aptly than during the time the student has to study 15 hour plus days for finals. It`s a scary thing; finals make or break you. It could mean the A you want and the B you loathe. Those sets of A`s can mean Stanford Law, or Emory Law. It`s not that Emory Law is bad, but it`s just that Stanford Law simply rocks the body that rocks the body. Straight up.

Stanford Law and Emory Law... Stanford will mean a 150K plus job. Emory will mean a 75 K plus job. That`s a big difference if you think about it. That`s 75K in cash flow, that you have to pay off the plethora of school loans you had to take out to finance your way through undergrad and law school. It means driving a nice BMW convertible or driving a Honda Accord. For those LA KTown girls, that`s a huge difference. In retrospect, hmm... the Accord probably will give you greater happiness in the long run. You`ll get a nice, down to earth lady, rather than the single-faceted(but incredibly hot) KTown girl. But, I still want that BMW. Materialism is a great and horrible thing. John Stuart Mill advocates the greatest happiness for the greatest number of people, while preserving the ideas of that individual.Am I that greatest number of people or am I that individual. Maybe both. Look at me now... I`ve just gone on an incredible tangent. Hmm, an example of Faulkner`s flow of the conscious mind to different sets of ideas till you get to a point where the end bears no semblance to that of your beginning.Disjointed, jumbled, but .. so post modernist, wouldnt you say? Too much studying has caused my mind to fill with such profound thoughts. Monday, I`ll be done... only to take on a new set of responsibilities. Whoo hooo. feel my excitement.

05.01.01 :: Why Americans Hate Politics

Do you want to know why? They have to deal with deathly long novels like this. Packed full of so much extraneous information in my opinion... no wonder Americans are turned off to politics. I almost am! The rise of the New Left, neoconservatives and their fallacy of synthesizing false choices for the American public.. sounds like a blast huH? Super time reading it! Yey! Sigh!

I hope my life doesn`t follow in the theme of these past couple weeks. Excessive workloads, infinite stress, catching up, always behind, struggling for balance, desiring order, synthesis, antithesis, new synthesis... The cycle never ends. I have to write a paper on Beloved by tomorrow with an original and insightful argument. I have a final in Modern Political Thought on Thursday at 430. I have a final in American Political Parties on Friday at 430. I have to turn in my 5-7 page book review and analysis on Why Americans Hate Politics at the same time. I have a birthday party to go to in Buckhead, Atlanta for my homie, Ethan...it`s his 21st. Finally, I have my last final on Monday on American Literature 1865-present.

Once school is done... I`ve got to deal with money. Lack of.. desire for more, process of getting more, depleting that money I once acquired... When does man ever stop? Always working, always moving.. always in transit...to somewhere in life.Where does he find solice in the chaos of life? He finds it inevitably in God. God gives him security, answers, and tranquility. While God is always there, man is ever so fleeting from God. Many think that God is fleeting. He is actually there next to you, and it is your decision to take to embrace him, or transit without. So many "I have to`s" in life, with so many more on pushing against that floodgate to inundate your life with more. With so much chaos and disorder, man turns ultimately to God... but when does he? That is the great question that I seek to answer. When will I succumb in humility? Soon I think; very soon.

04.03.01 :: Twenty One

Only seventeen more days till I turn twenty one. Sooo very exciting. Never thought I'd ever be 21, but here I am, seventeen days from genuine legal status. Yeeah. Party at Le Prive!!! My twin sis wants me to go back to LA and party with her at Le Prive for our 21st. That sounds like a lot of fun... If I can get a flight back for 150ish, I'm definitely there!

If I'm there, I expect you to be there too. Maybe Nic Cage will stop by and say hello.

KASCON was soo much fun too. I met some awesome people there and I definitely enjoyed my time back in LA for KASCON. Props to all my friends at UCLA who planned the conference. You guys did a great job and I commend you all for so much hard work and dedication.

University of Colorado, Boulder, good luck with KASCON next year and I am definitely at your disposal in its planning.

People I met this weekend:

Chris Nam, Jessica Lee, Caroline Jung, Jody, Vivien, Sunny, Shawn, Alex... It was an awesome time and I hope we can meet up again sometime in the near future.

That's about all my tired brain can write at this moment. Hope I can get up in 4 hours and get to Party politics at 830. Wish me luck.

03.28.01 :: Past blog courtesy of the archives of AsianAvenue.com

"What Asian cultural trait do you think America needs most?"

I believe that the asian trait that is the utmost virtue of
asians are the strong ambition and work ethic that we hold
and are instilled in us since childhood. We constantly work,
tirelessly and determined to better ourselves, amidst all the
obstacles and the seeming glass ceilings existing in America.

Our work ethic is unsurpassed by any other group in this
world. It is the Asians who incessantly work and toil for
what we believe will bring us a better future for ourselves,
but more importantly, our children. That is why my mother
and father have worked so hard for their past 20 years of
their lives...so that I might be able to have just a little more
opportunity and of a better life than they. I`ve seen my
parents get up at 6:00 AM after a scarce amount of barely 6
hours of sleep and leave for their restaurant and business
which they started from ground up and work with the
energy of a child for over 10 hours, when they return to
their homes, have barely enough energy to cook, eat and
have conversation with their children, and fall asleep... I
believe my parents are a testament to this tremendous work
ethic of Asians. And I believe I am a continuation of that
work ethic and I hope to instill that very virtue into my
children to pass on for generations to come.

If all of America possessed this virtue, there is no doubt in
my mind that America would eclipse every single country in
productivity and intellectual discovery. Unemployment
would be a thing of the past and we would not see the
socials ills of homelessness. Welfare, medicare...all would
be dissipated amidst the hard working product of the
American people.

While this might not be the complete solution to
America's social problems, it is a great start and a truth
which should be embraced and championed.

Keep on,
Daniel

03.25.01 :: Studying

Studying is so fun. I am reading the sound and the fury by faulkner. I guess it's a pretty good book. Just confusing at times. Tracy is sitting here with me as I type. She said she'd rather read than do DSci homework. Doesn't it sound fun? I think she's a bschool person. She says she's applying to be... but knowing her level of intelligence and work ethic... good luck...hehehe... slim to none baby..slim tOoo none... Maybe if she prays really hard for the next 365 days and burns a sacrifice in effigy to God...he might be more lenient... anyways... I'm getting bored now. Time to talk to tracy. Say bye tracy. Bye. Laters!

02.22.01 :: Chungking Express

There's a film that eloquently captures the essence of love and the loss of love in the lives of everyday people. It's called Chungking Express. It's a wonderfully directed film that is full of wit, charm and a genuine sweetness. Up until a few years ago, I thought the only films that were good were those made in Hollywood. Then Chungking Express was shown to me by my twin sister, and I was so impressed by the film. I, myself, can relate to a lot of the film, as the two protagonists, both policemen, are attempting to fill their void with love. Isn't that what everyone wants inevitably? To be loved and to love someone?

Call me a romantic, but I feel an emptiness that is urging to be filled with love. To have someone to share your excitement, sadness and success. To have someone to hold your hand and squeeze it, to let you know, that you're not alone. To be able to be loved and reciprocate that love, with all your heart and mind and body and soul to that significant other. Sigh. Sometimes, as I sit on my couch, enjoying the sweet tunes of Thelonius Monk and Ella Fitzgerald, with a hot cup of dargeeling by my side, I begin to ponder; will I ever meet love? Or is it something that is forever fleeting? That has come to me have been specious. So ephemeral, it has left me, ultimately...sad. Always believing that, "wow, this may be the one..." or, "my heart is content...", soon fades, left with an abject dejection that ultimately leads back to that initial question, "will I ever meet love?". I hope so...because one is the loneliest number. Maybe I'm taking the approach the entirely wrong way... Perhaps love will meet me.

02.17.01 :: Age and maturity

Why is it that people can be so childish when thrown together in a mass mob? All reason and logic seems to fly out the window, the minute people are together; I should say, people, that are young, facetious and immature. Without the "enlightment" of tolerance, endeavors to a constant learning, and sincerity/honesty, that person regardless of age, might as well be a 6 year old child. This phenomenon is also recreated almost exactly when a mass of people are together, although educated and old and mature, alcohol comes in, and wipes out any vestige of maturity and wisdom. They have fun at other people's expense; they make the other party feel less than accepted and moreover, foolish in terms of socializing with them. Then why socialize with these people? I don't know... perhaps a strong desire to befriend those who are unfamiliar with him, in hopes of seeing what more diversity of people the world encompasses. Or maybe just to feel, cool. Yeah...To feel cool and accepted and popular. Sounds like high school all over again. Dawson's Creek, 90210, or Saved by the Bell anyone? I'll pass, thank you.
