the best pretty good okay pretty bad the worst help?

Well, the house is now filled with an equal number of males and females. But I'd say that the males have the advantage, since the females are both canines.

My mom flew out today to Arkansas to help take care of my grandmother. She's not doing well (grandmother, that is), but she's getting by. One of the worst parts was talking to her on the phone last night, and the ORS operator (the person who types in what the other person says so that I can read it) put in after the first sentence "sounds out of breath". Some things, I just don't need to know.

Even more things here. First off, a very cool place (and important) to visit. Hatewatch is a collection of articles dealing w/ hate-crimes, hate groups, and general hate. With the crap going on right now, it's a very good place to start.

Another thing here, I stole from Kopi, who stole it from somewhere else. Since I can't give blood due to those damn bacteria a few months back, here's reasons for you to do it.

I get faint: Give blood anyway. They'll wake you up when it's over. And guess what? You'll live. And maybe because of it, so will someone else. Each blood donation helps up to three people in need.
I don't like needles: Give blood. People don't like shrapnel, either. Deal with your fear and quit being a selfish bastard. If you had to have an operation you'd deal with the needle thing. Everything is not about you. This is THE lamest excuse not to give blood.
I've had sex with a man who has had sex with another man within the last year: Okay, you're off the hook. Because this country is still at its root pretty discriminatory and reactionary, gay men can't give blood in addition to not being able to serve in combat or get married. If you can't give blood because you're a gay man or you've slept with a gay/bisexual man, please consider volunteering for the Red Cross or donating money, clothes, etc. as the calls come out, whatever you're able to do.
I'm a hemophiliac: Ditto above.
I've had meningitis, I carry HIV, Hepatitis or another bloodborne pathogen, or I use IV drugs : Ditto above. editors comment: damn
I don't have a lot of time, I'm busy with work, kids, etc.: Again, don't be so selfish. At my blood bank last night, there were women sitting in the lawn chairs rocking their babies to sleep. One nursed as her blood was drawn. Others brought their children aged anywhere from 5-14 with them, and they were put to work taking care of the refreshments, handing out forms, etc. Your kids can be a part of the effort to help. And you can tell your boss that they should offer people time off to give blood. And if they don't, look me in the eye and tell me you don't make time to occasionally watch a movie or TV, take a walk, have a beer, etc. This is so much more important.
I'm too far away to make a difference: Like I'm really supposed to believe you're dumb enough to think that? We all know the wonders of modern refrigeration mean that your blood can be used no matter where you're living.
I'm afraid I'll catch a disease from giving blood: And I'm afraid I'll be caught in a building on fire and collapsing from going to work. Jesus. Get over yourself, and get educated. You won't get AIDS from giving blood.
I don't have great veins: Me either. We have something in common. And I just had 8 IV lines in them a week ago. Giving blood was a pain in the ass, and we were afraid I might not bleed out fast enough to get the 580ml they require in the bag. But you know what? The workers are dedicated to getting your blood this time. If your iron's a little low or you're a slow bleed, chances are they'll do whatever they need to do so you can donate that day. Our workers were there until 2 in the morning, and came back at 7 today. So if your veins suck, just take a deep breath while they poke you and think of England. Or America. Or your friends and family. Or strangers that don't deserve to die just because they live in a nation of greed, arrogance and corruption that's an easy target for psycho terrorists. Giving blood is one way for you to show the world that we as a people do care about more than just ourselves.

If your blood type is O, times everything I just said by ten. If you're O negative, times it by a hundred. If you don't know your blood type, here's a free way to find out. Ditto HIV status, what a bonus!

Me again, and once again, do this now.

I'm not too worried about the fact about the fact that I talk to my dogs. It's the bad things they say about me when they think I'm not listening that bothers me.

Okay, here's the thing. I really do like that Canadian editorial that's been passed around quite a few times this week. However, there's two important things about it that I need to point out. First, I've gotten six copies of it so far, so please don't send me another one. And second (and this is an FYI), as good as it is, it's not about what happened on Tuesday. This article was written back in '73 regarding America in Vietnam. More info on this is here. Just letting y'all know.

This is pretty cool. I just found, thanks to some ALDA people, an online animated dictionary of ASL. It's got a good 400-500 words or so, it seems, and looks really nice. I'm enjoying this to no end.

I'm bloody well exhausted today. I got to wake up at 6 am (an ungodly hour if ever there was one) to head up to Ann Arbor, for an early CT scan (not mine for once, my mom's (she's fine, don't worry) ). Follow that up w/ another attempt to program things (attempt being the key word), more driving fun, and meeting w/ my therapist. Right now, all I want to do is curl up somewhere and either sleep, read, or play Chrono Trigger.

Well, that was an utter piece of crap. I just had the pleasure of seeing American Pie 2. My advice? Don't.

Why the hell are you here? Turn your computer off right now, and go and do two things. First off, run, don't walk, to your nearest comic store and pick up the new Transmet. Then take said issue and get your ass to the Red Cross, hoping that they might have an extra chair for you to give blood at.

In an attempt to bring a bit of sanity in my life (no comments from the peanut gallery regarding my general sanity, please), I will be doing my normal stuff and posts around here. There's not much to say right now--I am at a client computer w/ a screwed up keyboard, (hence the general lack of apostrophies), so I will just give more details and witty remarks later on today

What can I say about today? I can't. I know some people in NY and DC, and all of them seem to be fine. I'm just glad for that, and feel unbelievably sad about everything else.

I'm in a better mood this morning that I was last night, that's for sure. But then again, things could get worse. Check the news if you haven't already..
