Glad to hear that everone in Seattle is OK after the earthquake!
I have had a very long week and am very tired . . . I wanted to post more but, just have not had the time. Since I am a Makubwa (Big Boss) now, I have more to do and less time to do it. Looks like I will be heading back on Saturday and I will be out till early May when I take my mini with Jenn in Paris and London.
Again, my best to everone in Seattle.

Well, another busy day in the office. Still have lots to do but, it looks like I won’t be able to get back to the bush till early next week. The Land Cruiser I brought in was in need of serious repair work and I doubt it will be done before Friday.
I had a nice weekend, played on the computer ALL day Saturday and a bit on Sunday. Went to a nice bar on Sunday and watched the Worthington Cup, really a fantastic game between Liverpool and Birmingham! I must admit that I have picked-up a slight football virus from my time in the UK so now, unless I watch a match or two every couple of months I break out in terrible hives.
I will try and get more written later this week but, it might be hard as my social calendar is getting quite full – I will do my level best. There are, however, tons of photos posted so have at!

Well, it is slightly early Sunday morning and I have a small pot of coffee, half a pack of cigs, a big computer, network access, and the will to do some writing so I am going to give it a go. That is to say, relate some of the hilarious hijinx and high adventures I have experienced here Africa so far.
Jumping right into things, my arrival in Tanzania was neither hilarious nor adventuresome. The flight to Amsterdam was uneventful and likewise with the flight to Tanzania. I do have one small rant regarding the “system” however. My ticket was a special one-way fare, booked through to Dar es Salaam. It just so happens that the aircraft I was on was first stopping in Arusha and then scheduled to go to Dar. As it happens, my ultimate destination was Arusha but, was I allowed to change my ticket? Was I allowed to disembark the aircraft? Nuff said.
Dar es Salaam was hot. Like seriously Africa-hot. When I left Seattle it was about 0C/32F with snow predicted for the next day. Dar was something in the neighborhood of 38C with 90% humidity! Bloody awful, I tell you. Lucky for me I had a flight out the next day mid-afternoon so I did not have to hang around for too long. I don’t want to dwell on Dar too much, even though I did have a few funny things happen to me there. None, however, very far outside the normal run of the mill stuff like bumping into someone you know, the power going out at the most inconvenient time, and not having a flight properly booked.
My flight to Arusha was nice. There were great massive billowy clouds in the sky when we landed, the kind that you would just love to have a small plane in which you could duck, bob, and weave through the clouds for hours on end. Sara, my boss, met me at the airport and we headed off to the office. The office was all a bustle with many things going on, not in the least my preparation for leaving in two days time. The next couple of days were spent running around getting things ready and by Friday morning were set to head out.
Our plan was to drive from Arusha, up to Ngorongoro, down through Olduvai Gorge, through Serengeti South, and into Maswa Game Reserve. As with all things in Africa, nothing ever goes quite according to plan! We made Ngorongoro with no problems and got to Ndutu Lodge which is just inside the boundary of the Serengeti. Being as it was late, we decided to spend the night at Ndutu and head out first thing the next morning.
As mentioned before, the rain here has been pretty heavy. The ‘normal’ pattern is for the rains to come in November and December, the short rains, and then again in February through May, the long rains. There is usually a break somewhere in January and February but this year the rain has not stopped at all and it is causing all sorts of problems, not only in Tanzania but all of Central, East, & Southern Africa. Anyway, not 15 minutes down the road did we get stuck in the mud.
* It is now 10:00 AM and I have to run so I will add another installment later, hopefully tonight. I have to run into town to do some shopping today. *

Hoy!
I am back for a bit, about a week. I arrived in Arusha on Tuesday evening but have been super busy at the office trying to get things organized for my trip back. There are allot of details and things I am responsible for so I have had not much time for personal things.
I am in the process of up-loading photos right now and I will post more to the blog a bit later. I have some good stories to tell and will try and get them all down. Things are going generally well and all-in-all I am having a great time. That is not to say that some days are very tough and I have certainly have days where I did not what to be here. However, those feelings are usually short-lived!
Right, back to posting photos and be sure to stay tuned for more updates!
My Best to All!

The other is called "A few from the office" and there are a small handful of pics from around the main offices here in Arusha.

OK, so these last couples of days have been crazy. I leave for Maswa Game Reserve tomorrow early morning. I will be in Maswa for the rest of Decemeber and most of January, if not into Feburary. Most of today was spent getting the trucks ready and packed so we can leave first thing tomorrow.
When I was last in Arusha, things were very dry . . . everywhere you looked things were brown and ugly looking. The rains have come since I left and everything is very green and alive, with giant puffy clouds filling the sky. On my commuter flight from Dar to Arusha yeatserday, we flew among the clouds and it was great. It was like swimming through a big bag of cotton balls.
It is also nice to get away from the cost. Dar es Salaam was terribly hot . . . Africa Hot to borrow a phrase. It was something like 32C (90F). The humidity was unberable and I was sweat soaked the entire time I was there.
Today I got my work permit and had my Passport endorsed . . . I am now a ‘Class B’ resident of the United Republic of Tanzania.
I am not sure when I will next be able to post but, I will continue to write while I am in the field.
A few new pics will be posted tomorrow AM.
