09.14.2001 : Job irony

(1)

Well, I had to actually turn down a job yesterday. Unfortunately, the job was in Phoenix and that meant relocating, which is something I'm just unable to do at this point. Excellent pay, too (more than double my last wages). And commuting back and forth to Phoenix is a bit extreme (over 100 miles one-way).

I'm still hopeful, though, that something will come my way as I just started seeking employment. Until now I've been holding my own and living quite comfortably off savings. I moved here specifically to be with Andy, and more importantly to advance in a career that I was unable to do so back in Louisiana. I took a huge chance, and I'm enjoying it, every bit.

09.13.2001 : Thought

There's a slope in the world, when the ground gives and the weight of the world begins to shift. The eyes are on the east coast where so many have lost their lives. It's such a sad, sad time. It's also one of strength, of coming together and helping. And we never thought it would happen here. Not like this, not at all like this.

Not to those who could not deserve this, if anyone ever could deserve this.

09.11.2001 : Terror

I believe God deplores humanity today. It is such a disgrace that people could do such things in the name of God or country. It makes me ashamed to be human.

I only hope my friends who live in the cities attacked are fine. But my heart and my thoughts are also with those who are not.

09.10.2001 : New family member

(1)

The new member of our little family is a lazy member, indeed. And we haven't even named him (it's a recurring problem with me: I lack the talent to pigeonhole personalities in the form of one singular name). Kitty kitty. I'm open to suggestions. :)

09.01.2001 : Timeshare

(1)

Ahh! We're going to get away for a few days... but not too far. We're staying the week at the Starr Pass Resort in the Master Suites. Andy's parents never use their timeshare, so we're taking advantage of it. Normally it's $300.00 per night! But it's like home away from home, only with air conditioning (instead of this swamp cooler we live with). A seven day timeshare, but two we "donated" to a good friend while she's visiting! Awww...

I'm still trying to figure out just what it is about cats and computers: they always vie for your attention when you're at the keyboard. Any other time they're off somewhere preening themselves. But once you sit down at your desk they're all over you, batting at the pointer moving across the screen. Hmmm...

08.31.2001 : Leisure Learning

I've been training the new kitty for the past several weeks. I don't mean to offend anyone when I say I believe he has multiple personalities. After all, some of my best friends both past and present aren't all there, so to speak. Nor am I. So it is without prejudice that I admit to finding at least two separate personalities.

There is Cuddly Kitty and Demon Kitty. Flip sides of the coin, I have found. Where one is the epitome of affection, the other is gnawing on your arm with a taste for blood. For hours he will purr in your ear, nuzzle against your chin, and make dough (for biscuits, I believe) all over your tender chest. Little claws can be so sharp. Then he might try to sink his paws into my cup of green tea, shred the newspaper when I'm perusing the classifieds, or use my leg as a scratching post.

Such is the life of a five month old kitten. He's good therapy.

Things are getting much better. It's been nearly two months since the passing of my kitty cat. So we decided to take in a new little kitten. It took a little time, but I'm in love.

And since I'm temporarily hooked up with CompuServe, I'm now with rudimentary e-mail access (I've decided I won't be getting a cable modem until I'm working again). So... my current e-mail address is jerrybnaz@cs.com. At least until I'm with an actual ISP and able to check my overloaded Inbox which hasn't been checked since February. ;)

And last... my prayers are with you, Noah. You know why. :-)
