half hour

okay. i'm at the library ... i've just paid for a half hour of internet use, so let's see if i can remember everything that i wanted to mention here, before i run off to check my email! (i have very little access to a computer these days ... less than usual, even ... it's sad).

so, last night i had an interview for a play that will happen at the end of the month ... i am supposed to hear something back today ... it's an equity co-op which means that after all of the expenses have been paid those involved will share any profits ... it's a play entitled talking with ... by jane martin ... i haven't read it, yet, but i hear that it's good ... it consists of 11 monologues ... and it's written for women. so, if you're looking for a monologue there's a suggestion ...

this evening we have our tech for our fringe play ... these things are usually a stressful event ... but i think i'm going out for a drink afterwards ... thank god. the play opens on friday night. i'm still a bit worried about how ready we are ... but i think we'll pull it off in the end. i've been feeling terribly negative since i got back from my trip ... must think positively and have fun with the play.

besides feeling negative, i am also a little disappointed. i was looking into this bank loan (for nyc/strasberg institute) but i need a "strong" cosigner (who is a family member) ... i asked my aunt (one of the only people in my family who qualifies) ... she said that she would think about it and speak to her hubby about it, as they share everything ... i thought that that was very kind of her and a positive start ... it wasn't an outright "NO!", right? so, they talked about it and in the end they did say no ... they want to get a new car soon and will need their own loan for that ... i am really grateful that they discussed it and thought about it ... of course, i was terribly disappointed and cried a few tears of frustration over that ...

i haven't been thinking about it much lately, though ... too stressed about the play and trying to get back into the swing of things and personal crap ... and the press conference on thursday. the press conference! forgot about that for a minute ... must look at my script and ... what does one wear to a press conference at 11:30 in the morning ?? hmmm ... i don't know ...

i still attend these WIFVV breakfasts which happen once a month ... at the last one the special guest was someone who'd worked with lee strasberg and is a member of the actor's studio ... i thought that was a bit freaky ... and took it as a bit of a sign. this woman, paula shaw, offers this very intense workshop (it's happening in vancouver in november) ... i think i may take it. it isn't all about lee strasberg's method, but it still sounds like something that i could get alot from ... she's from the bronx and seems like such a great woman ... she made me miss new york even more.

that's all for now ...

... 10 minutes left ... must go see if anyone emailed me.

pure-wool

i got a call yesterday from the director of the french gig i am doing in january ... there is a press conference next thursday ... they are going to announce their upcoming season then .... at some fancy restaurant - they're buying me lunch (yum) ... the publicist called me today about the menu because we have to select what we'd like to eat ahead of time (weird ... having the publicist phone me!) ...

i am going to be reading a scene from the play at the conference ... and then craig (director) said to be prepared for interviews ... that they don't always ask, but they might. interviews? yikes ... i'm frightened. even now that i have the gig i am still so afraid ... that i'll get nervous in front of the press and forget every french word in my little brain.

that's what happens when you grow up in politically-charged quebec where all the french kids constantly remind you that you're not pure-bred.

more about the lee strasberg theatre institute and my interview ... on the sunday before my interview lisa and i took a walk to see where exactly the institute is ... to make sure that i wouldn't waste any time getting lost the next day ... the next day when i went for the real thing i dragged sam along because (geek that i am) i wanted my picture taken in front of the building and the big banner that says lee strasberg theatre institute ... stage television film ... you know ... just cuz.

but we get there on monday ... i have 5 minutes until my interview .. and i'm still running up and down the street looking for a public restroom so that i can change into my "good shirt" ... because it's a hundred degrees and i've been on the subway and in cabs and getting nervous ... so i wore a casual tee and got that one all sweaty on my way there ... but now i'm looking to change and want to be presentable ...

finally i do find a restroom and i run in and change and i run out and i've got all my papers and i'm ready for my interview and "oh my god! look at all those people!" see, lisa and i passed by on a sunday and it must have been closed because there wasn't a soul out front. i had imagined those big red doors and the big banner ... and me. but now it's monday and the big red doors are open and there are all these ... students ... out front and "i can't go in! i can't! i'm scared."

of course, i did go in. and the whole interview process was pretty anticlimactic, actually. (i just didn't know what to expect beforehand).

but i'm still excited about attending : ) cross your fingers ... i am trying to figure $$$ things out.

oh, and we took my picture afterwards in the east village. (sam snapped the school once i'd gone in).

i'm ba-ack

i am back in vancouver ... not into the groove of things, yet ...

when i wake up and figure out where i am i need to learn my lines (fringe opens in 2 weeks) and work on my script some more ... that's about all that's happening right now. i have a rehearsal on friday with the director ... the rest of the cast gets back from vacation on the weekend, so next week will be more intense ... leading up to our tech ... and then opening night!

i have picked up the fringe festival program ... i'm looking forward to reading about the other shows and circling the ones that i want to see ... it's fun :)

(one of the shows playing at our venue is from new york ... maybe they'll take me back with them when we're done?)

$$$

well. i can't even describe how amazing this was. you have to experience it ... if you are in new york: see it, see it, see it.

doesn't look like this is going to happen. this is my last night here ... i fly out tomorrow, late afternoon ... we were going to try visiting scalpers for tix. it's new york, kids ... there are scalpers selling tickets to a free show. and if i had more time, i would pay for 'em, too!

my interview at lee strasberg was fine. basically, i need money. it turns out that i could do the 12 week program as a foreign student, too. previously, i thought that i had to do the full-time 9 month program. but there is a full-time 3 month ... which i could totally deal with it. and it's a hell of a lot cheaper, too.

so, if you have 5,000$ (cdn) to spare ... let me know. it's not that much money : )

showtime

tomorrow we are going to see de la guarda ... it looks and sounds like it's going to be such a cool show! we're excited ... i hope i get swept up to the heavens ...

on tuesday morning we're going to line up at TKTS to get some cheapie tickets for a broadway show ... though we don't know which one, yet. we'll pick when we're there - it's easier that way ... unless you have suggestions?

and then wednesday morning if we can manage to get up really early we'll line up for the seagull ... people are sleeping in the park all night to get tickets for this star-packed show (it's free!) ... we're not going to sleep in central park but hope to get tickets by lining up early morning ... ohhhh, i hope, hope, hope that we get tix ... i realize how much i want to go now that i'm talking about it.
