all the evicted house guests will return to L.A; only one hour will air tonight.
CBS planned tonight's episode as a two-hour special episode of Big Brother 2, but changed their minds; now, only a one-hour "eviction episode" will air starting at 9 p.m. ET. The finale is still scheduled for Thursday, and will feature all evicted house guests; The Washington Post reports that "not one of the ousted...contestants hesitated to get on a plane and return to Los Angeles."

most Big Brother casts remain in dark; Will says the "tragedy...ruined our show."
Most casts of Big Brother around the world have not been told about Tuesday's attack, save for the Netherlands and the U.S. cast -- who were finally told, but will not be updated, according to the AP. That's okay with booted house guest Kent, who thinks the Big Brother 2 house guests should not have been told anything because "they are mentally fragile already." Perhaps illustrating either his lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation or his actual lack of compassion, Will reportedly said, "this tragedy in NY has ruined our show." As people wonder how the show itself will handle the tragedy, it's remaining episodes have been once again rescheduled: A two-hour episode will air tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET; the finale will air on Thursday at 8 p.m. Tomorrow's episode will likely use footage from Saturday's "live" show, during which (spoiler; highlight to read) Monica was evicted.

+ update: a survivor list includes Angel Juarbe as "okay"; reports are submitted by the public and may not be accurate.

house guests (finally) told full story; remaining episodes rescheduled.
After speculating and connecting the lack of air traffic to the little they were told about Tuesday, it appears that the Big Brother 2 producers finally told them the full story. Still, while the house guests were told that today is a day of remembrance, as Will reportedly said, "it is hard to remember something you don't even know about." Also, the remaining shows have apparently been rescheduled, according to Zap2it.com, for Saturday and Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET; the finale will still take place next Thursday.

The Real World Julie and Melissa from New Orleans almost flew on flight 11 to LAX.
Julie and Melissa from The Real World: New Orleans planned to fly standby on early-morning flights from Boston to L.A. on Tuesday morning, but eventually decided not to; on her web site, Julie talks about seeing flight #11 hit the World Trade Center on TV, and writes, "Melissa and I could have been on that flight."

Monica's cousin is still missing.
Monica's cousin is apparently one of the thousands of people still missing after Tuesday's catastrophic events. Big Brother 2 producer Arnold Shapiro called it a "family emergency" and said that's why the house guests were informed, although according to live feed transcripts, they're still not aware of the extent or effects of the terrorism. It's still unclear what will happen with episode tonight and the rest of the season (Arnold Shapiro Productions, 818.325.6900; Endemol Entertainment USA, 310.860.9914; CBS Television City, 323.575.2345; CBS feedback form). Elsewhere, NBC and other networks are already delaying shows and pushing back the premieres and episodes of new fall shows for at least one week.
+ also, a plea: journalists, please stop irresponsibly comparing Tuesday to "reality TV." what happened has no connection at all to soap opera-style entertainment that features real people.
+ plus: donate money to the Red Cross.

Big Brother house guests told about attack (sort of).
The sequestered and isolated remaining Big Brother 2 house guests -- including Monica, who lives in New York -- have been given limited information about yesterday's terrorism in New York and Washington, D.C. A person with a megaphone, possibly Mike Boogie, reportedly gave them slightly more information by shouting over the wall of the compound. Monica was told by the producers that her family members are okay, but like the others, is apparently still not aware of the severity of the destruction. If you want to, let CBS know what you think about the way the show is dealing with this via their feedback form.
+ plus: donate money to the Red Cross.

Tuesday, September 11

On a day like today, reality TV and other everyday things seem rather trivial. My thoughts go out to anyone affected directly by today's events, and to everyone else who's just trying to make sense of the reality on their TV screens like I am. --Andy.

In an interview with WGCL in Atlanta, Nicole's husband says that all participating in a show like Big Brother 2 "it's likely to do is put a very tough, difficult strain on that relationship and I wouldn't recommend anybody y'know who is in a committed relationship or a marriage to get involved in anything like this, it's just not worth it."
