Thanks for asking.

I was actually in there yesterday to retrieve some additional personal =
items. It was surreal. At one end of our floor, people's desks are =
untouched, piled with papers, personal items, etc. as if they had just =
gotten up to leave for lunch. At my end of the floor, everything is a =
wreck. They have vacuumed and replaced my windows, but when I moved my =
credenza to get access to my desk (they had pushed it in front), I =
revealed dust, debris, and shattered glass underneath. Everything in my =
office had been placed in plastic bags by the building cleanup workers.

But the most overwhelming experience was the view of Ground Zero. The =
debris is down to ground level now, and there must be ~20 steam shovels =
digging it up and filling dump trucks. The large girders and I-beams go =
onto flatbed trucks. There is little evidence that it was once a =
building -- it is as if they are excavating a rocky quarry, but the =
rocks are hunks of steel. There are no desks, no papers, no carpet, no =
signs of what was once an enormous office tower... everything is dust =
and ashes. There are still (at least) two fires burning, and the firemen =
are still pouring on water. It has been 5 weeks, and I-beams are still =
lifted out of the fires glowing red-hot.

I recited Psalms over the mass grave of some 5000 people. This is a =
holocaust -- not in the modern sense of the word, but in the Biblical =
sense, a burnt offering which leaves no remains but ash.

I continue to pray for peace.

David

PS -- As for returning, my group is relocating to 32 Old Slip, another =
Goldman Sachs building in the area. It isn't clear what we'll be doing =
with the space at One Liberty.
