so we have these toy machines at work... you know, the ones with the mechanical claws that you use to fish out stuffed animals... well one of them was on the fritz today, something wrong with the coin slot, so we made two signs 'out of order' and 'do not use!' and placed them over the coin slot and covering the joystick that manipulates the claw... well not a half hour later what occurs? A little old lady comes up to me and complains that the toy machine took her money. I naturally ask her which machine (we have four) and doesn't she point directly at the busted one? I naturally pointed out the two large signs on it to which she repolied I didn't see them and when I pointed out that this would be slightly difficult as the one over the coin slot was taped down with some six pieces of tape all she did was repeat I didn't see them... good grief...

I will not wax eloquent on the events of today... I think it says something for the profundity of what happened that even with all the times I've seen the images on TV I still haven't deadend to them... I hope that I never will... the sheer scale of what has occured seems to have left the world in a state of shock... there was this eerie silence everywhere I went during my couple of hours lunch this afternoon... the most affecting scene was the intersection of Yonge/Bloor where CTV has a large digital billboard on the south-east corner whereon they were broadcasting the news, complete with subtitles, the other three corners were crowded with people silently watching... not talking at all... just silently watching...
