The Day the World Stopped
I am still completely stunned and overwhelmed by the tragic events in New York City and DC today. Latest reports on NBC are stating that victims of the Twin Towers collaspse are using cell phones to call for help from beneath the layers of rubble. I pray that people find them in time. Some survivors have been removed from the wreckage already, but as we all know, the situation is grim.
This just isn't supposed to happen here. I don't know anyone today that isn't completely freaked out and apprehensive about what they have witnessed today. I have never seen anything like this, and I hope I never do again. They are comparing this to Pearl Harbor, but it's even worse. This was a full on attack on civilians, by civilian planes. The way these people died was horrible. I can't even imagine the terror that thousands of people went through today in their final moments. I literally had goosebumps for three hours straight today.
One thing is apparent: this country is united right now, in this moment of grief, in a way I've never seen before. No matter what happens, we will overcome this. As one of my friends online put it, "Today is a bad day to be an American. Tomorrow will be a bad day to be a terrorist". We must be cautious, but not fearful. That's exactly how they want us to react. I don't think the terrorists understand that you can't break the American spirit that easily. And a country and congress once divided is now united to unleash the biggest ass kicking the world has ever seen. Indeed, tomorrow will be a BAD day to be a terrorist.
How you can help: Blood banks need donations badly, but blood has a relatively short lifespan, so if you can't donate today or tomorrow, do try to donate blood a few days from now. If you can't donate blood, donate time to help the Red Cross with blood donations. Most local police stations and red cross organizations are accepting donations and supplies.
On the behalf of all the bruised.net staff and hostees to the people of NYC/DC: Our thoughts are with you and the victims of this senseless tragedy.

Random Taxi Thoughts Part 7
- The War on Drugs is the biggest crock of shit going. Well, in the UK it is, at any rate, and I'm sure it is to a degree in the United States as well. Over here (and I'm sure Stateside too) there are places, where, if one so wishes, one can take drugs in a warm, semi-stable environment and bop away to music. Some of these places (the more organised ones at any rate) actually employ people to wander around and check on the health of people partaking in contraband, and to offer them water and medical assistance if need be. They're called raves. The authorities know about these places, and they know what goes on at them. Even if they don't, the adverts for the mix CD's of music at raves - which are shown on Public Access TV just by the way - should tip them off. There's no way you could enjoy that music unless you were completely and utterly off your face!
- Speaking of raves, was anyone here ever stupid enough to buy a smart drink at one of those things? I remember at nearly every rave there always used to be some Wiccan/New Age tart with a stand advertising "Smart Drinks" for a tenner a cup. From what I heard you'd basically fork over the dosh, and get a cup of Kool-Aid with thinners in it. You know why they were called Smart Drinks? Because the drinks themselves were cleverer than the people buying them!
- If you're a bloke, the best person to go shopping for clothes with is a close female friend, or better yet, your girlfriend. The reason being, that most males have about as much fashion sense as a squashed ant. If you're in doubt as to whether you have a decent fashion sense, the aforementioned companion is, generally speaking, the best person to take along. The reason? Because she realises that she's going to be the one who has to walk down the street with you at some stage, and so will make sure you look as good as possible. It's true that clothes shopping with a female companioncan be a long and arduous process. But while you may take twice as long to find anything, you won't leave looking like a complete fool.
- And lo God did say to the people of earth; "Thou hast displeased me. I shall send a plague upon thee, and it shall be called Victoria Beckham and her debut album. And lo it shall sound like seven pints of shit and be on all the music channels, both radio and television. And it shall make thee and thine scream in sheer pain, and instill the urge to chew thine own feet off."
- What does the word "lo" mean anyway?

jane says...should I go?
Janes addiction is playing not 3 hours from me in October to open their north american tour. your average 20-plus year old wouldn't think twice about going to see one of the most influential whatever-rock bands in the past 2 decades when the opportunity presents itself. well beyond my second...hell fiftyith thought, I still don't know how much I want to go. tickets are a fragging un-nerving $50.50 each (pre-ticketmaster rape .er. sur-charge). Dave Navarro is annoying, and getting ever-more-so by the day. Eric Avery isn't ever re-joining the line-up (Flea may have been a decent condolence). The seats I would get at this point would, without a doubt, yield horrible acoustic results for me. I am going to see Medeski Martin and Wood in 2 hours. I am going to see The Cranes in NYC on the 13th. I am going to see Neds Atomic Dustbin in NYC on the 14th. I just bought my girlfriend a $1200 computer.
but...
Three Days. Three Days. THREE DAYS!!!
help!

Random Tax.....ah, the hell with it!
Random Taxi Thinking is now taking suggestions. Submit any Random BS you happen to have knocking about your cranium. My head's just not working this morning as there is too much blood in my caffeine system. I was woken up by the cab company a half-hour before I was really supposed to get up, and so I'm not really in my body at this stage. To make matters worse, the bastard played Creed all the way to work, while yammering on about the football (that's soccer to you lot Stateside), his wife, and what it means to be a taxi driver in London. So the only Random Taxi Thought I've been able to come up with this morning is "$%^ING DIE!!!! YOU PIECE OF £$%"ING "£$%% &*$£!!!!! AND FOR GOD'S SAKE SWITCH YOUR £$%* MUSIC OFF!!!!" Who buys Creed anyway? They're rubbish. Oh wait. I know who buys it. Piece of £$&% cabbies who don't shut up about the £$%£ing football, and their wives, a what it means to be a piece of £$%* cabbie in London who listens to $%£&ing Creed! If you're in Creed and you're reading this, you now know what your demographic is. Congrats!
It's a bank holiday, and I'm working, so I hate you all. Just thought you should know this.

Not apathetic, just busy for once.
I suck muchly. I haven't added any of the new people to the portal, and there are lots of new people to add. Sorry. I will get around to it. But not today or tomorrow. I have some weird headcold that came on really fast, and I hope it's banished by tomorrow because I'm leaving for Cleveland in the morning to see Radiohead. Again. I just got back from the Toronto show. It was amazing. I haven't done much with the domain lately, but I'll be adding new stuff when I get back, assuming that I'm healthy by then and feel up to it. Heh, and if I end up not going back to school, I'll prolly be updating a *lot* more frequently in the coming months. Until next time, I love you all.
