Remarks by the President After Two Planes Crash Into World Trade Center
Emma Booker Elementary School
Sarasota, Florida

9:30 A.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Ladies and gentlemen, this is a difficult moment for America. I, unfortunately, will be going back to Washington after my remarks. Secretary Rod Paige and the Lt. Governor will take the podium and discuss education. I do want to thank the folks here at Booker Elementary School for their hospitality.

Today we've had a national tragedy. Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center in an apparent terrorist attack on our country. I have spoken to the Vice President, to the Governor of New York, to the Director of the FBI, and have ordered that the full resources of the federal government go to help the victims and their families, and to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act.

Terrorism against our nation will not stand.

And now if you would join me in a moment of silence. May God bless the victims, their families, and America. Thank you very much.

END 9:31 A.M. EDT

Bang! Two months without a blogger update.

Such a bad, T.J.

The obligatory news update:

In the preceding month and a half, I've done the following:
-Worked at Verizon Wireless as a sales person (hired and fired in two months, and no, it's not for any sort of wrong doing)
-Moved into my first apartment
-Started law school (yay, exciting!)
-Received a new laptop (thanks, Dad!)

I haven't been seeing as many movies as I'd like, but with Kisha back in town, that's bound to change. In the past two weeks I've been slowly creeping back into the movie viewing realm:
-Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (as good as I'd been expecting)
-Fast and the Furious (entertaining, if not much else)
-Swordfish (less entertaining than the previous movie)
-Original Sin (my god was that horrible)

I hope it won't be so long until I update again.

It's late again...

What's New:
-Superficial page update (revision of the about me page, and some very nice font changes)
-Still no employment, although I've had two very successful interviews for sales positions in which one the pay was too low, or two, they had no jobs for me
-I have been idling away the time watching television, occasionally going to the gym, and cruising the information superhighway for jobs and apartments (not necessarily in that order)

Movies Seen In a Theater (first run or otherwise) Since I returned to Dayton:
-Pearl Harbor
-Memento
-Just Visiting
-Moulin Rouge

Movies watched on digital cable:
-Unfortuantely, there's too many to list, they added all the West Coast versions of the three sets of channels we receive (HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax) which means I have over 50 channels of movies to watch at any given time. Adding in the over 100 regular digital cable channels, finding something to watch has almost become a chore.

The End of an Era--or it's late and T.J.'s nostalgic

I've been gone just over 36 hours, and it's fading already. Four years is the exact same amount of time you spend in high school--but I couldn't wait for that to be over just so I could get to college. Now that college is done, I wish I could start all over again.

The diploma is framed...however--the various assortment of electronics, books, and other items are still unpacked. Relative busy-ness is the order of the week, I have an interview at a temporary agency, I need to get a new bank account, call some places about finding an apartment, and I have Dragons tickets for several games this week.

And in other news, my mother's car was totalled driving back from graduation. She was stopped as some car was turning left on a two lane road where the speed limit was around 55. A girl in a Geo Metro (coming home from a different college) rear ended her at 55 miles an hour. The trunk ended up in the back seat of her Pontiac Grand Prix and my mom ended up with whiplash. She said she was shopping for a new car anyway...

I was trolling the graduation website in an attempt to find a copy of the rather amusing song. This was, of course, until I realized I don't have my speakers plugged in. What they do have is an archive of previous speeches. Andy Rooney (from _60 Minutes_) was the valediction speaker last year. I liked this excerpt from his rather interesting speech:

"My friend Harry Reasoner once gave me some good advice about commencement addresses. He said you can start out funny but you should end up sad, so I have a sad thought today. This is your valedictory. It's from the Latin "vale" meaning goodbye and "deserere" to say. You're here to say goodbye. Something that has surprised and dismayed me over the years is what happens to friends. You'll find that by the time you've reached my age, you've made more friends than you have time to keep and many good ones have disappeared from your life. It seems unfair and wrong but it's true. I had 50 reasonably close friends when I was in college at Colgate. Seven were killed in World War II, but over the years I kept in touch with about 10 of them. I didn't lose touch with the others because we no longer liked each other. We lost track of each other because there wasn't enough time to be friends with everyone you felt friendly towards, but that's the big reason this is a sweet and sour day for you. It's sweet because you've gained a major objective in your life. It's sad because as I speak you're seeing many good friends for the last time. If you live to be a 100, there aren't many days you'll remember better than the day you graduated from college and I am pleased to have been here today to be part of your great time. That's all the sad stuff I'm going to say.

I've been to a lot of commencement speeches and when they're over, there's a lot of chatter afterwards but I never heard anyone say it was good speech but it was too short."

To close...here are two pictures from last weekend: one to serve as a remembrance of me, and one of Kisha and I (with an amusing cameo from my father in the background) at graduation--I'll let you figure out which is which.

Finally the T.J. has returned to Dayton, Ohio.

Well not yet, but shortly, and for another three years. I've decided to return to my Flyer roots and begin studies at the University of Dayton School of Law.

And now for your viewing enjoyment:
