Okay, and before anyone decides to slam me as a hippie pacifist or something (not that there's anything wrong with that), I would like to point out that I do not think that the terrorist acts should go unpunished. I am just saying that instead of saying "Woe be to us, Americans" let's think of how horrible it is that this kind of thing could happen in any country. Of course it looms larger because it is our own country, but it would be just as horrific if the planes had crashed into buildings in any other city, especially in the countries we are allied with.

Hell, I don't really know what I'm trying to say, except that the seeming eagerness of people to go to war scares me. A lot. If only there were another way . . .

On the way home from my sister's house, I saw many signs that proclaimed "God Bless America" and similar sentiments, and the radio was replete with songs of patriotism. My Country 'Tis of Thee, The Star Spangled Banner, and yes, even God Bless America seemed to be in constant rotation on every radio station I turned to. As Americans, we argue incessantly about too much religion in our politics, and too much politics in our religion; not to mention peanut butter in our chocolate. But when a tragedy like the one this past Tuesday occurs, we can band together to pray and invoke God at every turn. Instead of singing to God and asking Him to bless America and bring vengance to the criminals, I propose a different song; one I learned as a young child. [Apologies in advance for not knowing how to correctly attribute the source. If you know, leave a comment and I will correct the error of my ways.]

Let there be peace on Earth,
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on Earth,
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father,
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother,
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take,
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment,
And live each moment,
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on Earth,
And let it begin with me.

In the light of today's news, my problems seem to pale in comparison. Apparent terrorist attacks on the United States are much worse than any of the petty annoyances that plague me. Depression, unemployment, my seeming inability to find someone to be happy with, what are these compared to all of the lives lost?

But I am a self-absorbed little brat, so I will continue to worry and fret over these trivial details. They're not really so trivial to me.

You're not my friend anymore. I thought you wanted to be, after everything we've been through together. You've even told me so yourself. But when it actually came down to it, you couldn't come through for me. I am so disappointed, but I don't know why I expected more from you. I finally realize that you don't value my friendship anymore, whatever pretty words you say to me on the rare occasions when we're together. My real friends value me. My real friends care about how I'm feeling. You obviously don't, so I have to tell you goodbye. It pains me so much to do so, and it will take a great deal of fortitude on my part to keep this promise to myself, but I think I can do it. Because there is no shortage of people who genuinely like me, and your affection seems so fake in the light of that. I only wish that I was wrong about you, but I fear that I am not. I want to say that I hope the best for you, but I'm not that mature. I hope you are content, and I hope that some day soon you realize what a misake you made in forsaking me. I admit it, I am bitter, but that is okay, because I am better than you, and you know it.

Tonight I start a new part of my life. One without you in it, and I hope it brings me good things.

Foiled by technology again. Reblogger has been having some problems, and it seems that I've lost my comments. Oh well, feel free to comment again as the mood strikes you. The problems seem to have been fixed.

I just came back from dancing with my friend Matt. It was the most fabulous time. I can't remember the last time I felt so free of worry and care. Sometimes, you just need to go out and have fun without worrying about tomorrow.

When I got home, however, the toilet overflowed, and there was not a plunger to be found. It was pretty icky, but I dealt with it as best I could until tomorrow when I can perform actual repairs. In the meantime, nothing can bring my mood down. I am so happy right now.

And I might even have a lead on a waithelp job at a totally cool place. Right now, that sounds like a ton of fun. ASP is fun and challenging, but I can't get a job doing that, so I might as well get a job doing something that doesn't totally stress me out. Here's hoping for the best.

I'm sorry that I know this fact now, so I have to share it with you. From Dumb Facts:

A cockroach can live several weeks with its head cut off - it dies from starvation!

Okay, this is a random post. Right now I have the hiccups. I am going to drink a some water upside down in order to get rid of them. The one time I did that out in public, the only other person who knew what I was doing (and didn't think I was completely psycho) was from Hawaii as well, and said, "It must be a Hawaii thing." But I'm pretty sure it's not. I read it in a book a long time ago, but I'm almost positive that it wasn't a book specific to Hawaii. My sister agrees with me.

So, do you get rid of hiccups that way? If so, how did you learn about that method? If not, how DO you get rid of them. I'm curious to know. Leave a message in the comments section so we can get an idea of what information is out there.

I'm not deleting my last post, but I am going to say that it was written after the low point of the night. There was a high point, honest. I had dinner with a very pretty girl and enjoyed myself thoroughly. We chatted about nothing and everything, and then it was time for me to go. I kissed her very soft lips and promised to see her again soon.

The problem only arose because I did not go straight home afterwards. Oh what a difference five blocks can make. And I exaggerated anyway. There was no throwing. I made a slight error in judgement because I misinterpreted some things that were said. No real harm done, but last night I was mortified when I got home. In the light of the afternoon, things seem much less dramatic than they did last night.

I still want somebody to love me, though. *grin*

Good God, do you ever wish you had a rewind or delete button? I wish I had one for tonight. I totally threw myself at someone to whom I thought such advances would be agreeable, but to no avail. I have nothing to show for my efforts but a lot of embarassment and a car with some puke on the back seat (not mine). If I ever get the urge to be a good samaritan again, I will do so and get the hell out of dodge immediately afterwards. I mean it.

Somebody love me, please.
