Just wanted to give everyone the heads up that we are the proud parents of an 8 week old Golden retreiver named Sunshine. She is truly the joy of our lives. And we won't miss any opportunity to talk about how cute she is! (As our recent visitor Jacob D can attest...)

Wow, a lot has happened since 12/13. We spent Christmas in York and had a great time, lots of fun, even took Zoe ice skating!

Here is a link to a few pics from York, a few pics from our Christmas party, and many pics that Zoe took while learning photography (age 2.5, so cut her some slack!)

Then it was back to Denver for a quick packing job...but not so fast! A storm in Minneapolis delayed us for a day. We spent several hours in the BWI airport before turning tail and heading home. Tre took us to Washington Natl the next day where we finally got home via Houston. Nik spent the day on the phone in various airports rescheduling our move-out to Saturday the 30th. That went pretty smoothly though it was a hectic day. Another snow storm hit us that night and we spent a night in a motel near Ft Collins before driving to Lander for New Years. After a reasonably uneventful snowmobile ride up to the cabin, we rang in the New Year with the Jacobsens, Lefevres, Christian, some great fireworks, and 5 bottles of champagne.

A few days later it was off to Salt Lake City! Jen and Christian followed us down on their way to San Diego and stayed with us at the Homestead (our temporary home/motel room) where we've been living through Janurary. Nik started work on Jan 8 with the Olympics and is loving it. Also is working some crazy hours...She earned 5 full comp days during her first 2 weeks! Eric hung around for a few days while we did some house hunting. He's been back and forth to Boulder several times already, working on the thesis in Boulder, then looking for houses in Salt Lake. After a rejected offer and a "didn't hear back" offer, we finally had an offer accepted on a cute little house in the Sugarhouse area. This is one of the older residential areas near the down town. It was built in 1923, has 4 BRs including one in the finished attic, and a beautiful backyard with lots of pretty trees. We are closing and moving in on the 15th/16th so if everything goes well, we'll make it official and tell people what our new address is! We want visitors!

That's all the news for now. Eric is hoping to finish his thesis as soon as possible so he can live full time with his beautiful blushing bride in their new abode!

ps. Eric now has 100% of his siblings living abroad...check out their online journals:

Nate in Salzburg, Austria through May 2001!

Jen in Guatamala through mid 2003!!?

A guy came today to check out our apartment for moving...so it looks like it's for real! We're packing up our place now, and will have the moving people haul everything away on the 29th, after we return from our Christmas Holiday out in PA. Then we'll head up to Wyoming for New Years before finally heading down to Salt Lake where Nik starts her job on Jan 8. Eric will still have to go back and forth to Denver for a few months while he tries to finish the ever elusive thesis. We'll get our new address and contact info out to everyone as soon as we know it...most likely towards the end of January.

Well, we had a wonderful time in WIlliamsburg VA with the Otherwhyes. The weather was perfectly wintry and the company was divine! We even had a surprise arrival of the famous duo -- Lissie and Zoe -- accompanied by the ever-faithful Dominic! Great time -- we ate well, shopped, watched the annual parade, saw a terrific play and toured some beautiful houses.

We were even home for the buying of the Christmas trees! We haven't been home for that in years! Quite a tradition!

Er and I even managed to get our wedding album ordered! We spent almost three hours with the ever-patient Amy Bohlen who helped us figure out how to get what we wanted.....also, thanks to Er for doing most of the organizing!

We made it back to Nortthglenn safely and are now playing phone tag with the moving people for Salt Lake....we could be out of here in two weeks (fingers crossed!)

We are celebrating Christmas Off Campus tomorrow evening with a bunch of UD'ers in the areas.....wish I was in Dayton SO BAD!!!!!

Anyway.....we'll keep you posted.....

Love to all!

Well our Thanksgiving weekend with J & A was fabulendous. We had a great time.

Look here for some great pics of Thanksgiving weekend and the weeks before.

We're in for another big weekend coming up. Nik has already flown out east and I will be following Friday. We're joining the Whyes for their annual trip to Williamsburg, VA. We'll be reliving our colonial roots, watching the Grand Illumination ceremony (fireworks and the lighting of the Christmas tree!), and hopefully still catch the Redskins game Sunday ;)

Jon, Allie, Nik, and I have been cooking all day and are about to have the biggest Thanksgiving feast in the history of the world...at least for us this year. Greg, Susan, and Marie are stopping over as well. Can't wait! We have made most from scratch esp. the cranberry sauce (thanks to Allie for the orange peel idea) and the stuffing (with Martin's potato bread...only the best here people). Yum! Happy Thanksgiving everyone . . . I hope that you all have as much to be thankful for as we do this fine November day.

My parents are in town for a day before they head to Michigan for a big Thanksgiving get together with family, so we had a nice evening with them. Cooked up a big stir-fry and then spent some time going through their pictures from Europe...they had quite a trip! Great pictures too! Tonight we'll see the other half.

In other news, we just had a wonderful visit with Marjie, Nik's sister...she was able to come out this past weekend from Fri-Sun for her first visit to the Rocky Mountains. We enjoyed showing her the area and even got up to the Boulder climbing gym Sunday morning.

Tonight we get more visitors when our great friends Jon and Allie arrive! Al surprised Guy with tickets only last Friday and he was a bit startled to say the least. It will be great to see those turkeys!

Well the weekend in Chicago was good. We had a fun time, got to see some people that we haven't seen in a while: Jim D and Jenny, Dan B, Uncle Pete and Evan; Nik even spotted Kyle Burkholder running the race. This was Nik's last trip with Team in Training (her job with the Leukemia Society) so she was a bit sad to be finished. My race went pretty well. I started with my friend Jim from UD and we ran the first 16 or so miles together. After I lost him, I ran by myself for a while until I ran into Mary Van de Walle, a girl that I sort of knew from UD as well. We ended up running the last 5 miles or so together encouraging each other along, so that was cool. I ended up running a 4:28:16 and am darn tootin' happy about it. I'm already looking forward to doing another one in a year or so! As of today, I'm still a bit sore but recovering nicely...

This will be my second marathon and I'm excited and quite nervous. I haven't trained as hard as I did last year for Dublin so will be taking it pretty easy. If you happen to be online this Sunday (10/22/2000) some time between 8:30 and 1 pm EST you can actually track my progress during the race. [Click Here] I think you will be able to search for me by name. If it's after the race, you might be able to get my time...anyways, cool internet technology going on :) Should be a fun weekend!

We had a great day yesterday hiking the Cinque Terre! It was both super-tough and extremely relaxing. We started here in Manarola (village #2 of 5) where we are staying at the Ostello 5-Terre, a very nice, modern hostel. From here we hiked north through the village of Carniglia to Vernazza (about 3 hours) where we stopped and had a great lunch right on the little harbor and then laid on the rocks for a while. The sun was beautiful, and I decided to take a dip...the water here is blue, very clear and not too chilly! I wish I had a snorkelling mask as I could see little fish swimming around beneath me. After a relaxing several hours in Vernazza, we decided to bag the hike to the final village of Montorosso and caught the ferry back to Riomaggorie, the first village, from where we walked along the Via d'Amore (barfing sounds from the non-romanticly inclined) back to our place. Last night we caught the train up to Montorosso which is the largest of the 5 villages and had a super dinner that stretched past 23.00! We have one more night here, but this morning we are heading back to Pisa to catch up on some traditional sight-seeing that we missed earlier. Ciao.

Hello from Manarola in the Cinque Terre . . . northwestern coast of Italy. We've had a great week...after our time in Switzerland we travelled to Austria where we stayed on a hotel/farm called the Gusthof zum Schluxen near Reutte Austria. From here we hiked about 2 miles to the famous castle of mad King Ludwig (Neuchwenheisen sp!?) which was built around 1860 and bankrupt most of Bavaria. This is the castle used to model the Disneyland castles. The tour was ok, but madly rushed with tourists...the peaceful lakeside setting with the castle in the background was much better.

We traveled to Salzburg via Munich for a few hours, and met Nate at the airport. He'll be studying in Salzburg with a group from the U of Portland for 2 semesters. We had a great time seeing him and trying out the local cuisine: stinky cheese and Stiegal (pronounced Schzghee-gal). The highlight of our 2 days was a day trip to the concentration camp of Mauthausen. It was a dreary/morbid experience but very eye-opening and awakening...something that won't be forgotten.

Our next stay was Venice where we spent 2 wonderful days and 2 relaxing nights...mostly just wandering the streets and occasionally seeing a few sights...the Doge's Palace and the Basillica of St. Mark. The splendor of Venice is incredible, even more incredible is that they thought to try to build such a city in the middle of the water in the first place. Our third night in Venice turned out to be one too many....a rain storm on the second day must have inspired a big batch of mosquitoes to hatch and we were eaten alive!

We made a quick stop to walk the University town of Padova before heading on to Verona..the fictional home of Romeo and Juiliet. This was a lovely city and we were happy that a reservation mix-up left us with a nice night in this city of Romance. A rock concert was going on that night, taking place in the huge Roman arena that dated to 30 A.D. As we watched the Veronian teenagers screaming like idiots as their heroes exited the rear and were whisked away in vans, I pictured similar teenagers screaming nearly 2000 years ago for their favorite gladiator as flash bulbs popped.

Yesterday was a crazy day of 5 different train connections that left us in the Cinque Terre one day ahead of schedule...and now we're off to hike to Montorrosso, approx 4 hours away along the beach! Catch yàll later!

Hi there you rockin kids! Sorry we haven`t checked in lately, be weve been busy travelling around. we had a great time in Rome and couldn't believe everyone said that it was their least favorite place...until we got to Assisi. Wow, that town is amazing! After getting off the bus and asking for directions to our hotel (Il Duomo) we had to wind our way through 12 foot wide streets between stone buildings that were hundreds of years old (probably thousands actually). We spent our time in Assisi just wandering around and it was great! Had a great meal on a balcony overlooking the main square (I recommend the house white wine`) and then wandered down to the far end of town where a large group were singing in front of the Basilica of St. Francis. The next morning we went into the Basillica and were äwed and in peace...

After Assisi we jumped a train to Florence (Firenze) where we had a few hours to kill before setting off on a monstrous overnight train ride to Switzerland. Nik wasn't feeling too well so we had a quiet evening in Florence at a small cafe next to the Duomo (huge amazing cathedral...can't wait to explore it more when we pass back through...)

Our train ride was bad, but we survived ok. Finally arrived at our place at a Swiss ski resort after 13 hours, 3 trains and a nauseating bus ride. But the view is amazing! We are here for a week.

Monday we toured Lausanne and saw the Olympic meseum which was pretty moving for the Nik. Brought back memories of her time in Atlanta... We also had fun boat ride along the shores of Lake Geneva to the Chateau Chillon, an old castle whose known historz goes back to the 1300s, and unknown history goes back long before that. We ran short of time though so put off touring the castle until this morning (Wed.) It was prettz amazing...as Rick Steves says...a joy! Yesterday we had a relaxing day and took a beautiful hike and took in some of the countryside near our resort as well as some amazing mountain vistas. Tomorrow we hope to tour Swiss chocolate and cheese factories (yum!) and then Friday will head up to Bern and Murten in central Switzerland before traveling on to Austria and seeing the Nate! Ciao!

Wow, sorry for the neglect lately! We've been Buu-Zee like bees. Quick recap: July 1-4 we were off to York again for 3 rounds with our Paster, Steve Almquist. What a great guy! We had a really productive and inpiring weekend and . . . yeah, I guess we're ready to get married :)

After a short week, Nik was off to York again and celebrated Zoe's big day (2 years old!!!@#$#!$). Eric stayed home, did a little climbing, and spent long hours trying to fix his computer. ARgh.

July 13 we helped my friend and climbing partner Friso celebrate his bday at the Mellow Mushroom in boulder, and also bid adue to our good friend Susan who is leaving Denver for West Virginia. We hope to see her and Greg at the wedding!

That weekend, we had a great campout up in Rocky Mountain Natl Park. We were moderately successful in following the quiet hours at the campground, and hugely successful in having a good time Friday night. Saturday we set out to do some climbing, but were thwarted by bad roads and weather and ended up joining some volunteers for 2 hours to clean up a mountain cabin that had been destroyed (melted is more like it) by a recent forest fire. That was quite an experience! Sunday we did do some good climbing and got out of there just as the monsoon rains hit . . . there was later flooding around much of the area, and the burnt areas were especially hard hit with no undergrowth to prevent erosion. This past Friday evening, we had the pleasure of seeing Luke and Angela Anderson's new house up in Greeley, CO . . . they have quite a place! We had dinner with Angela's family and left them that night looking for a lost dog and with plans to build a big fence the next morning. We hope they found her!?

That's about it...we had a relatively quiet weekend for the first time in a month! Next weekend should be about the same except for a wild bachelorette party that is rumoured to take place...catch y'all back at the ranch!

Nik, Ginger and I saw the Rockies get smashed by the Giants last night. We were down 12-3 going into the 8th inning when all of a sudden we started scoring runs right and left. The high school intern running the message boards gets all excited and starts flashing up things like "Louder!" and "Make some noise!" and "I can't hear you!" and "It's never over in Coor's Field!" so I started yelling like a maniac. We scored four runs in the 8th and things were getting exciting! Then the 9th came and went in about 2 minutes and the game was over. So that was disappointing. And today I have a really sore throat. Idiot! It was a good time though.

Great weekend with the Jacobsen Fam! I'm finally getting used to these fun HickFests!!! I really want Eric to learn how to play the fiddle now.....I'll brush up my guitar, and WHAMO...the Traveling Jacobsens! Sounds pretty good to me!

We're so excited about the planning progress we made on our honeymoon! I am getting so excited! I wish we could take all of you with us (uh, well sort of)! It's going to be amazing!

I really want to thank everyone, especially the Wonderful Whye Women, who were involved in planning my shower! What a sweet thing to do! Thanks to all the gals out there who sent the pictures for the collage! We'll have it at the wedding so everyone can see it! So nice!

We're headed to PA this weekend (yes, we know, AGAIN!) to work with Pastor Steve Almquist, the man who will marry us. We've been reading books, watching videos, finishing workbooks and now we'll be in a 6-8 hour session with him. He's very concentrated on pre-marital counseling and so far, it has produced wonderful conversations for us and a real sense of "team work". I'm anxious to get moving on planning the ceremony.

Hope everyone is doing well. If you can make it to the wedding, we CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU. If you can't be there, we'll celebrate even more with you in mind!

Love to all!

Wow, what a weekend! Nikki and I traveled to York, PA to spend some time with her family. It's hard to know where to begin writing because going into the weekend, everyone involved had various different expectations. The Whyes are notorious for their surprise parties, and this weekend turned out to be their biggest caper yet! I've been involved in numerous secrets and surprises over the years, and it's always a challenge not to blow it. Since this was one of the few times Nikki would be home until the wedding, a surprise bridal shower was planned by Marjie, Alissa, and Theresa to be held on Saturday at Lisa K's house! I was aware of the plans but not really involved. Several weeks before, Theresa found out that she would need hysterectomy surgery (happening today..keep her in your prayers!). Nikki decided to throw her a surprise party, an "Ovaries Party!" while we were home. She happened to pick Sunday, and thought it would be fun to have the party at Lisa K's house...since Lisa herself was just recovering from surgery, she wouldn't have to go far to attend the party. I imagine Marjie and Alissa freaked out a bit when they learned of Nikki's plans, but decided that they just had to go through with it. So on one weekend, two surprise parties were being planned by Theresa and Nikki for the other, on different days but to take place at the same house! It was so hard to remember who to talk to about which party!

Everything turned out great, however. Nikki was surprised by at least 40 people on Saturday afternoon, shortly after we arrived. She was so confused and thought that this must be the party for her mom somehow gone awry and thrown on the wrong day! Jon and Allie were able to come from out of town, along with numerous other women from the York area. All men involved soon left to get fitted for our tuxes for August, and later in the afternoon we met up with my dad who was in Philly for a meeting and came down for the weekend. We all hit the golf course for a few hours...just putting and chipping and driving as I'm a total beginner...it was fun!

So at that point, the first surprise had been reveled, but everyone except Theresa knew that another was in store! After a nice morning of showing my dad around York and seeing the main wedding venues, we once again headed over to the Kurcheski's under the guise of having a father's day picnic with them. Theresa threw a pot of chili in the car in case there wasn't enough food. :) This time the surprise was even better, with more confusion, and at least 5 straight minutes of hysterical laughing as she realized what was happening, and tried to sort out what must have been going through everyone else's minds over the last several weeks! Another great party (with great food!) was had by all. Thanks to all who sent their best wishes and gifts to Nikki on Saturday. And send your support and encouragement to Theresa (Tre-Tre) over the next several weeks of recovery!

Hi y'all. Well, it's already Wednesday so I thought I'd report on the last weekend. Nikki kicked off her next season of Team and Training Saturday morning and I went along to help sign people up. I think there are around 140 new participants who will be doing marathons in Portland, Chicago or Bermuda, or a 100 mile bike ride in Tucson. Sunday we both headed out to Boulder Canyon for a day of rock climbing with about 8 other people. We were out there for about 6 hours and had a great time...we finished the day by gorging on huge burritos at Masa Grill.

This evening we're doing some more climbing out by Golden...I love it! The weather has been absolutely fabulous lately...which is good for me but terrible for fire conditions...we currently have 3 big fires burning close to us. Residents of severals small towns in the mountains and foothills near us have been evacuated. Let's hope for rain soon! Hasta,

Hi everyone. It was a good weekend for the guestbook! Thanks to everyone who signed...I thought I'd take a few minutes and respond to everyone in order:

Eric: You rule! Yeah, the top-gun theme sounds great! We'll definitely have it on the list!

Mom: Thanks for signing up...I'll count you as the official "first signer" since I had an unfair advantage.

The Jen: Hmmm...backstreet?? Get me a copy of that Irish tune and we'll play it!

The Nik Nik: Ahhh! Another vote for Backstreet Boys! My jokes always backfire...

Jon: Guy! Hey what's up!? The Jayhawks...now you're talking!

Heather: I heard you and Jon are THE THING out on the dance floor at weddings...I'll expect major moves come August.

Uncle Mark: Hey, my favourite uncle! Farfalle Giardinier will be singing the song that gets the most votes on the guestbook...he's great!

Uncle Jack: Whoops! My other favourite uncle! I can't believe you're going to come all the way from East China! Can't wait!

Josh: Don't worry, we've been practicing for Stayin' Alive..I'm going to outlaw Chicken Dance if I can!

JD: Can't wait to see you partyin' down stateside this summer!

Cousin Carolyn: All right, another vote for Stayin' Alive! We'll definitely have to recreate the big dance scene...do you remember who did our choreography? It's been so long...

Nate: Party down dude.

Ginny: Hey, great to hear from you! Great idea about the carpooling, in fact, anyone who is flying into BWI, let me know when and whether you will be needing a ride, or possibly have a ride to give, and maybe we can more efficiently get everyone up to York. I'd hate for someone to have to rent a car unnecessarily! I'll set up a page to coordinate rides!
