Aortal Pick

Aortal pick for the week is Bev's site, Weigh Better. Like Bev mentioned, I too used the disaster and my feelings about it as an excuse to quit being healthy. This whole last week I ate things I don't normally eat and I'm not feeling very healthy at all. Using the excuse of the houses being is such dissorder for not getting on the treadmill and "when we move in the new house the treadmill will be right in the livingroom" was my main excuse.
So... time to turn off CNN and spend some time at Bev's wonderful site reading and clicking links and getting back to being healthy again. :-)

Only up to 5% of my greymatter

What is it, the average human only uses 10 - 12 % of their brain? I could only be so lucky today. At least the cold med helps me sleep at night. I can't even remember what it was I was going to say.

Oh yeah, (had to go surfing for a few minutes to remember) the President. I wish everyone would save their dissatisfaction with the Presidents actions until he actually does something. People need to remember Clintons actions with the Cole. First thing he did was fire off a few missiles. Bush hasn't done that yet, and quite frankly I'm proud of that.
People look at me funny when I mention the slim possibility that Bin Laden might not have had an exact hand in this. Obviously he is still on the most wanted list but if we didn't have plans to go in after him before 9-11-01 and if there is no proof he knew about it then we can't exactly justify going in after him now.
It bugs me that there are so many innocent people leaving Afganistan in fear of our wrath. Afganistan didn't do this. A hand full of people did.

I do wish we could turn back time to the date we gave the Taliban that money though.

How about something on the normal side

If that's possible, that is. I am still tearing up every time I hear a patriotic song. But my cafepress store is up and going. I haven't checked the image yet but it's in png format so it should be fine. It's for the Red Cross. Any sales I get will go right to them.

We picked out carpet Friday. Went with a cut berber that was more expensive than we wanted to go but it's a good quality carpet and we don't have to pay the installation for it. Helps having a hubby that can do all that. We did get a friend to help with the seams. The living room will have at least one besides the door to the master bedroom.
Picked out congoleum *(sp) flooring. Not linoleum. I was adamant that I not have to look at smooth shiney linoleum. I've lived with an ugly yellow busy pattern for the last 7 years. What I was picking out was of a rougher texture, very rich feeling (you know, like a rich feeling textile) in a similar color to the carpet (which is a light beige). Then for the counter top, we went with a dark color for contrast. I am determined to keep things neutral. We put in a deep dark hunter green carpet 5 years ago and while I love the carpet and the color, it limits you.
The skylight was cut out the last time I went to look at the house. I hope we don't get any bats in the house. The railing for the staircase was up and I really like it. The house had a knotty pine railing that the owner custom made from logs, stripping the bark and staining it. Most of it we were able to re-use since we changed the design of the loft a bit. We also added a long knotty pine log that goes from the floor to past the top of the handrail. I love the raw look of it. A wood carver we know will either do some work on the top part of that, carving it into the face of a bear, or he'll carve one of his hanging bears to put on it.

Still so much to do. Mom and Dad don't get back till Friday. I'm so looking forward to that. No more 11 and 12 hour days.
To top it all off, I'm sick.

Saturday, September 15, 2001

I'm trying to get my Cafepress store up and going. I'm at work so the images are not uploading very well. So I'll get them uploaded tonight. I was up till after midnight last night making something. It's a patriotic theme with a flag, an image of the World Trade Center but not the destructive image, that's been burned into minds enough already. As well as my ever present anti-racism sentiments. (Americans come in all races)

That's the most disturbing of all. This morning there were reports of the attacks on Muslim Americans and anyone who appeared to be Muslim or Islamic or of Middle Eastern origin. I want to do something so badly. I want to be in the schoolyards and stop the bullying, I want to be on the street and stop it. I do what I can at work. People come in and see the news reports on the television. I've heard all the "bomb them back to the Stone Age" as well as "kill all ragheads" and each time I state my piece to them. I asked one balding man, who stated such sentiments, if he thought we should kill all the bald men based on the actions of a handfull of skinheads. I've asked generic white Americans if they felt they should be blamed for Timmothy McVeigh.

Most appear to think about that. Whether it sinks in or not, I don't know. I hope so.

I find myself reading the Book of Daniel and Matthew. Daniels dreams are interesting. Especially the part where he saw the creature cross the whole land from the West without touching the ground and attack (the other creature) with a great rage. (paraphrased) I think we can guess what that is. Also the part where he says 'they will sit at a table and lie to each other' (again, paraphrased).
I think of these books everytime something is going on in the middle east.

But I'm worried. I'm worried about people I can't protect, I'm worried about more backlash in this country. I worry about my kids, I'm worried about business. We just bought a house and are in the middle of remodeling it. Our house we have sold to my parents but that's contigent upon them being able to sell theirs in the Bay Area. So I'm worried about that. I also have some words for Jerry Fallwell but I'll not post them here. Not now anyway. I just hope the world realizes that his sentiments are no more indicitive of Christianity than terrorists attacks are indicitive of Islam.

Made a banner. Had to scan a flag and used an AP Photo. But I had to make something. It's not as good as I wanted it to be but I only had a few minutes to come up with something. Working on a flash banner for tomorrow.

England played the American National Anthem while American Flags flew yesterday. That made me cry.
People argue the separation of Church and State yet in a time like this, a large number of our Nations leaders were in Church this morning for a day of prayer. (Husband had to comment about the intelligence of so many of them being in one place but...)
It's almost as if no matter how hard people try to be "intellectual" about God and religion, they still do what comes naturally, they turn to Him when they need him most.

I disagree. Going on the assumption that Bin Laden is behind this, what is his reason for striking at the US? The fact that we try to stop him from killing, from terrorizing and that we back Isreal in their atttempts to stop him. We could leave the middle east to fight it out amongst themselves but that would leave Isreal at the mercy of terrorists like this who would wipe out anyone who disagrees with him. It would leave monsters like Saddam, who would nuke a country for the oil underneath and then hide his military bases and building in childrens school yards.
We have become dependent upon the oil from the middle east. Keeping it peaceful is in our best interest. Reminds me of a western I saw. In a fight over a piece of land because it was rich in water, one man finally said, "There's enough if we don't fight over it." Well, that would be true about the oil in the middle east but they can't seem to figure that out so keeping peace, stopping lunatics like Saddam and Bin Laden, are necessary.
We can't expect to take a stand and not have to fight it on our soil, that I understand now. But then I don't expect much from the human race as a whole.
Bin Laden cannot be allowed to continue his murdurous terror.

More attitudes.

Someone we know was talking to my husband last night about the attacks. She was telling him about a woman she'd seen in town. The woman was of a middle eastern origin, but obviously an American Citizen. ~~ "I could tell, she knew she was wrong."
This woman actually said those words about a woman in California, an American Citizen. ..."she knew she was wrong."

I wish I'd been there to set her straight. That woman was not to blame for what happened anymore than my child is. Yet because of her race this person placed blame on her.

Incredibly sad. The human race is such an embarasement at times.

People need to calm down and use the brain God gave them.
I'm sick of being the voice of reason and having people angry with me.
The attitude by some in my area is your typical redneck "Bomb them all", and "kill the ragheads" comments. To which I've tried responding that that is equal to blaming all white people for the racist actions of a few or killing bald men for the actions of a handfull of skinheads.
It doesn't work that way!

We are in no danger of losing freedom. We received a wake up call. We are not as secure from this type of attack as we thought we were. Security will be tightened. We needed that. But we must learn from our past mistakes. We don't need concentration camps for the American Citizens who happen to be of a middle eastern race.
Those in the States who side with Bin Laden and are, or could be, a threat will be identified by the correct authorities. Not a vigilante group. They should be deported, not killed.
The reports of celebrations, by children, in the streets of Palestine are sad. But they are being led by a madman. Take away the brainwasher and they may just grow up to be peaceful.

And the President needs support. Not 'Dubya' jokes. In this case, the President is more than just one man.

Do NOT, I repeat Not create a problem where there is none! We have enough to worry about.

No death threats to any groups or individuals.....No assumptions.....Be aware, be concerned. Don't teach your children hate. We have enough of that.

I can't believe the World Trade Center is gone. It's bad enough that I or my kids will never be able to set foot on the same land that Jesus walked. Visiting Ireland sounds iffy with all the crap going on there. Now we'll never see the World Trade Center. I'm ready to cancel my husbands flight next month.

I agree with Bonni. I hate 'em too during times like these.

Rambled by Me ~ blackmail material

I spoke too soon.

I've been going through all the stages, disbelief, shock, numbness and anger. Finally anger. At work (where else have I been) people of all races, countries, come in and watch CNN with me for a few minutes at least. Some are in shock, some appear to dismiss it as it doesn't affect them. Family members and friends have been calling because everyone knows my parents were recently in Washington DC. They called this morning from Oklahoma.

I went through all the initial knee-jerk reactions to this, feeling like we should cease all aid to other countries, cease immigration, let Isreal deal with their problems on their own, etc. But the reality is we can't do that. If another country needs help, we will help. If they need money, we will give it. What this should do is open our eyes to the actions of the middle east. We recently gave the Taliban money for discontinuing the production of drugs. Hindsight.
The only comfort I have, regarding the men who died for what they thought was a gallant and heroic action, is that they are in fact burning in hell physically and with the realization that the gates of Heaven will not be open to those who would kill innocent people like this for no reason.

The US will be limping for a while but certainly not down. I have to wonder though, all the aid and help we give out... who will step up and help us out? We may not need monetary help but will any country help apprehend those who are responsible?

What a cowardly act. No real man, no real human being would attack innocent people like this. Vengance is the Lords, His will be greater than anything we can do.

And he will.

My Aortal pick for this week is istockphoto.com. A wonderful, newly discovered (for me anyway) resource. Many royalty free images for use, lots of high quality images for personal use, etc. I'm downloading a couple as we speak. As soon as I get my digital camera you can bet I'll be making some contributions of my own. (waiting, since I doubt they'd appreciate any of my scanned photos). Thank you istockphoto!

'...well, you see Judge, I was....I was just..... disgruntled! Yeah, that's it....

Another "Disgruntled" worker off's his co-workers. Take a valium for crying out loud. I'm "disgruntled" as we speak, working 12 hour days, putting up with the worlds most rude customers, getting home in time to put the kids to bed, the house neglected, spending money we don't have (on a septic tank we most certainly need), etc, etc.... but I'm not going to pop any customers for it (although some certainly tempt me.)
I'm sick of hearing that term used to describe someone who can't handle life like a man. (or woman for that matter).

Right now we have no employees but I can tell you with absolute certainty that it's the Employers who should be prone to crimes committed while disgruntled.
About 8 years ago we hired one kid who was fairly new to working with the public. He needed a few years of flipping burgers but we didn't realize that till he was on the floor screwing up. So he was moved to dishwasher. There he did ok but his attitude sucked. The incident that did it was a catered event on property that we had booked. That night my husband and I along with the staff worked our butts off trying to get the dishes finished after cleaning up the banquet room. Around midnight we decided to leave what was left and let Mark finish what he could in the morning, figuring we could finish up that night anything he didn't get to.
Well, he let out a word at first sight of the dishroom loud enough for the dining room to hear. His immature little mind assumed we just left him everything to do. I don't know what he expected. When you're hired to do dishes you don't get to sit on your bum all evening waiting for work.
Anyway, he was fired that night when he got an attitude about it. I did worry that he was the type to open fire on everyone a week later.

I do believe I'll deal with the in-laws rather than employees from now on.

Rambled by Me ~ blackmail material

White paint and the Ghost in my hallway.

Do you know how many different shades of white there are? If you've recently painted you will. I just want white walls. But not stark white. Finally settled on "Orchid White".

I don't believe in ghosts. If I did, I wouldn't sleep well in my house. But I have seen some things I can't explain.
In my house for example. In the hallway is where I've seen things out of the corner of my eye. Things that appear to vanish as soon as my eyes sweep the area where movement was seen. It doesn't happen anywhere else in the house so I don't know what it is about that hallway. I can see the hallway from the bedroom and last night there was something so strange it made my husband and I get up and check the house and the kids room. Again, out of the corner of my eye was a dark shadow that moved from the entrance like a tall man was moving through the hall. Normally the movement is child size so this was strange.
Like I said, if I believed they were in fact ghosts, I wouldn't sleep well.

Now there was something very strange at the motel my parents managed years ago. My husband and I had just gotten married and had moved out here. We stayed and worked at the motel a while while waiting for the house and store to close escrow. We had heard strange things but didn't think anything of them till one night we were all in the living room when mom's dog sat up, looked towards the stairway landing and started wagging his tail and smiling at something. (yes, this dog actually smiles) We all looked up and saw nothing yet this dog was looking as if someone he knew had just stepped onto the landing.
From that point on we heard every strange noise in the apartment. Creaking in the hallway when no one was there and more than once I was in bed and heard the sounds of someone walking into the room and standing behind me. You know the feeling you get? I would whirl around and there would be nothing there and no more creaking footsteps.
Very strange stuff.

Noticings

Time to start dressing in layers. Darn cold in the mornings, warm in the afternoons. But I just love a cold crisp mountain morning, especially when all the tourists have gone home.

Need a digital camera. The other night the sky was light blue with streaks of pinkish orange clouds. What a backdrop for the mountain. Had a friend take one, now to get him to email it to me.
And this morning, someone managed to get his pickup truck nose down (onto the pavement), end up on a steep embankment. First thought was "uh-oh, no cell phone" which was followed by "it wouldn't have a signal anyway". Then I saw the yellow tape on it. What a shot that would have made though.

And if I had been unlinked from a project just because I didn't want to pay hosting for a personal site but went with a Geocities free hosting, I'd be more than ticked. Donja love it when someone changes the rules to suit halfway through?

Oh, and no. I didn't get today off like we had planned. but i'm not bitter...

This is getting very difficult, being away from the kids all day long. My son I get to see more often as the school van can drop him off here after school. My daughter (3) I only get to see at night, with the exception of Sunday where the kids stayed here at work with me with babysitters.
Last night she wouldn't go to bed. She kept getting up and wanting me. We layed on the loveseat for a while, I was hoping she'd fall asleep while we watched a bit of tv. She did but she continued to hold my arm, which was draped over her shoulder, even in sleep. Each time I tried to move my arm she would cling to it.
Today she went with her Grandma and Grandpa into town to visit Great Grandma. Well, Grandma calls with a unique problem. Kaitlyn wanted Mommy. She'd never been like that before when she's gone with them for the day. Luckily we have arranged for tomorrow off.

I could never have a maid.

My friends son came over the other day to help out and do some of the things I couldn't (being the only one here it's not easy to carry the boxes to the dumpster or go into the cooler to stock). Well, I had gotten done what needs to be done in the morning but I couldn't just do nothing between customers while he worked. So spurred to movement, I ended up cleaning things that didn't really need it.

There are two new Journal Templates up. (just click on one to the left there and it'll take you to the site)
With a $10 gift certificate to Daz's site I'm trying to decide what to buy. It's a toss up between the Fairy and the Mermaid. The Bear is tempting too but I'll get more use out of one of the other.
Decisions, decisions.

Hey - Wil Wheaton has an online journal. What a great find. I loved Star Trek but it's so much fun reading about the people who made it great.

We switched to Satellite, in part, (at least on my part) so I could see Star Trek NG. Well, one station had it on around 5pm for about a month. I'm willing to bet I saw 3 episodes. I wanted to tape them but couldn't get it together enough, with all that was going on, to even do that. In all the stations we have, not one now has Star Trek NG. My mom gets Voyager on tape every month...I'm tempted to do that with NG.
I actually looked up script submittion once. I would love to see Imzadi made into a movie.

My brother is a huge Star Trek fan. He likes to dress like Data on Halloween but when he has a beard he looks a lot more like Riker. Lol. When we were in Vegas and went to the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton (favorite place to eat after walking that darn Trade Show), they had shirts on sale. I almost bought him one.

Anyway enough of my Star Trek Rambles. I just thought that was a great find to comment about. :-)

Today.... the Customer is a single entity....a slithering endless being that moves through the aisles.....in and out the doors without end....leaving in it's wake broken pieces as it's respect-less body desecrates this place. the Customer has a never ending stream of demands....like an evil master who seeks to destroy by punishing that which is impossible to obey.

Sigh, I was going to write a post about acceptance on the internet, groups, links, who's cool and who's not..... but I just don't have the energy to put it online and compose it in a way that explains exactly what I mean without any missunderstandings.
So I'll keep it to myself for now. And no, I'm not upset at anyone in particular or any group. I've not have an application rejected or anything. Just observations.

It feels so good to not be at work this morning. These 12 hour days of handling things alone are affecting my health. My back is killing me. One of our biggest weekly orders took me two days to put up. I must have picked up too many large boxes. I can't get a decent nights sleep and even have back pains in my dreams. Luckily my friends 15 year old was able to come over and do some stocking and work for me.

One thing I did do was set up a computer at work so I could play. As a result there are a few new Journal Templates over there to the left. ~ Enjoy.
