wow, a photojournalist's dream, and a nation's nightmare. it is both exciting and scary for me to think about covering such a story. capturing such horrific and powerful images.

i didn't get half thing things i wanted to pick up last night for class, i do own my own processing tank now which is wonderful, i'm so excited. i brought my camera with me today just in case there is an opportunity to shoot my first assignment. it's all about bracketing. so essentially, i need to shoot a roll of film in clusters of 3 frames. one with the correct exposure and the other two a stop up and a stop down from the correct exposure. i feel like i have a bit of an edge in class and the information being taught is an extension of what i already know, but i am learning new thinks here and there which is good. next week we will be processing our first roll of film, which should be interesting. it's been awhile since i have done this and for most of the class it will be their first time. so i'll be stuck in complete darkness with 30 people. sounds kinky eh...
hmmm looks like
chris is a red head now.... which should be easier to spot him on campus ( email me dude ). oh i wish i had taken photography in university many years ago. each day, i gain a stronger feeling that photography is definitely my calling. i just wish i had better equipment to work with.

back on the war front

i think one of the things that has had me transfixed more than cnn are the personal accounts from bloggers in new york city. it definitely adds a human aspect that can't be reported any other way. my heart goes out to all new yorkers and all americans today, a week after the destruction of the world trade center. i don't even know if choire reads my blog, especially now in this devastating time, but my heart goes out to you especially. i can barely imagine what it feels like to be there and all i can offer is an e-hug and my thoughts. ( kudos )

my semi normal weekend update

so friday night i went to see the movie, lilith on top as a part of the toronto international film festival. as music documentaries go it was pretty good. i have to admit i like it a lot, but again it did bring back a lot of good memories for me from the summer of 99 and previous liliths, so i guess i am biased. unfortunately sarah didn't show up because of recent events, but the credits did thank "the fumblers" and my friend alie was featured in the film for an entire two second in a crowd shot.

saturday night, jay and i went to see the lovely martina sorbara after having this huge sushi dinner, yum yum. it was nice to be out of the house. and martina has definitely been doing well for her self since i had last seen her earlier this summer, apparently she just signed to nettwerk records in vancouver. good job....

today, i got to hang out with my sister chelle which i don't get to do very often now that she is working crazy hours. she bought a bunch of stuff during our juant around the city. i walked away with a copy of rufus wainwright's self titled debut cd. this evening we went to a birthday dinner for chelle's musical partner liz. happy birthday baby...

so tomorrow brings a new week, more classes and hopefully i find my head. i have been very spaced out this pasted week, forgetting things and being very weirded out by everything.

i caught a bit of the memorial service on tv in the cafe at lunch today. it is still very strange that all this is happening. but as i stood outside just now i marvelled at the beautiful day outside. the deep blue skies stretched above me and the warm sun beating down with a slight autumn chill in the air. i'm thankful that all my loved ones are safe. i'm thankful that you are still here reading this. and i am thankful that at all the beauty that is right there in front of us, whether it be the weather or the people or the city i live in. i'm also thankful that this horrible week is almost over. there are tough times ahead, but there are also all these wonderful things around us that we muct not take for granted and should enjoy in the short time we have on this earth.

in other local news chris has found his way to the village on church street... what better way to release his inner diva.

to my readers, i'm sorry i have not written anything in the past couple of days. but i light of the current situation in the united states i really needed some time to bring my thoughts together. i have been in a trance by all the news, watching what i can on tv, reading what i can over the internet on various news sites as well as personal accounts from other bloggers. even today it is difficult for many of us to believe the terror that has been introduced into our lives here in north america. there is so much that runs through my mind and so much that has been said already. there have been stories of goodwill, heroism and hope among this bigger story of tragedy and it is promising to hear of everyone's good nature coming out of this. watching many broadcasts over the past couple of days i quickly realize that things will never be the same, that this crisis in nyc will become some sort of surreal livilihood that new yorker will have to live with for months and possibly years to come.

it's still a very strange feeling today. the end of a very long and possibly very unproductive week. this morning coming into work, i had seen my first plane in the skies, far, far above me. and it is both a sign of terror that lives within us as well as a sign that things will slowly move back to some sense of normality. but slowly we will have to pick our selves up from the televisions and radios and websites that hold us captive and we will have to move forward.

i know this may seem trivial, in light of this situation, but i really must force myself now to bring back some sense of normal programming here at my blog. by all means have i not forgetten what has happened this week but i think it will be more theraptic for me and for other if i do so. besides if we give up our regular lives to this tragedy then the terrorist have won.

it's been quite a long week here, for everyone I am sure... tonight i am going to a screening of "lilith on top" at the film festival. hopefully this will fill my head with happy memories of lilith fair which in part has changed my life and where i am today. i'm pretty excited about the film and i was so happy to be able to still get tickets for it last week when single ticket sales opened. the rest of the weekend i am really not sure what is happening. there are semi plans to do this or that, but i haven't totally decided.

earlier this week i started my classes at ryerson, "techniques in photograpy I" and " image theory" both look to be very fun and promising classes and i am really looking forward to jumping into schooling again. more excited than i ever was about school in the past. the techniques class has quite a number of cool photo assignments, as well, a lot of class time is actually being spent in the darkroom, which is great cause i'll be able to use one of the best photo educational facilities in north america. the image theory class sound like it will be very helpful as well. it's cool cause our class is so diverse with students for various areas (graphic designers, photographers, film makers etc ) so the combination of all these field should make for a really interesting class.

among all this, i think i am going to start focusing my energy on my website once again. a friend at work gave me some really cool javascript earlier this week which is goting to totally cut down on the amount of time it will take me to get all my galleries together. so that going to be really helpful in the revamping process.

that's all for now... i'll be back soon.

so i'm still awake and i wonder where do we go from here? obviously life must go on, but how does one live a normal life knowing the events of today. knowing the tragedy and devastation. and seeing the images brought to us by cnn.

what truly stops me in my tracks is the latest footage of the world trade center, of crew clearing debris. the shocking fact, being that one month prior i was there at the mellenium hilton. i was there across the street at the world trade center. the images are so familiar to me as they are still fresh in my head from my trip to new york city in august. yet on tv it looks like some sort of mad max version of the memories in my mind. and it scares me to think that this could have happened on any given day. it could have happened on monday august 6th as me and jay checked out of the hilton, walked out on to the sidewalk to literally take our last looks at what was the world trade center before hopping on the metro to grand central station.

up until now, the year has been a very optimistic one for me. life had taken a turn for the better and was looking up day after day. my love life growing stronger everyday, my photography becoming a bigger and bigger part of my life. even a photo tour which lead me to do two shows in new york city. in recent weeks i have started planning events for next year, exhibits and other such ventures. 2001 was looking to be one of the most successful years of my life. one of the most happiest.

by all means, i don't plan to stop what i have begun here. i don't plan to stop building relationships. i don't plan to stop living life. in the face of such tragedy, you have to see how fortunate the rest of us are. no longer taking advantage of our loved ones. no longer letting life slip between our fingers.

so tomorrow, when i awake from my sleep. i will awaken to a new chapter in the history of man-kind. and i will strive to live that life to the fullest. because as we have seen today, it could be all over in a moment. it could be all over before we get to say "i love you", it could have been anyone of us on that plane or in any of those buildings that were hit. and i what to be able to know that when i leave this earth that i have lived the best life i could live.

all of life's problems seem so small compared to this...

9.11 a state of emergency

i've seen it time after time and still watch it now. i feel both very attached to the situation and at the same time detached. a day of devastation. the shock inside me grows more and more and life will never be quite the same ever again. a piece of western civilization has been ripped apart.

my heart goes out to those families that have lost a loved one. a deep sorrow has definitely fallen across the country and across the world. tomorrow is going to be a very strange day. and of course it is going to be a very strange week, month and rest of the year.

to everyone out there... if i haven't told you lately.. i send my love to you... hugs and kisses

chum fm finally moved back to semi regular programming. all day they have been covering the "BIG NEW" it's a lttle settling to hear music as opposed to new reports, but this is just the beginning. life as we know it has definitely changed. it is just a matter of time until we see the reprecussions of all this.

"there were burning bodies flying out of the sky"

i went to the frog and the firkin for lunch cause they have tv's there. the visuals were mind boggling and the more i hear and see it is sickening. traffic in downtown toronto is apparently crazy, everything is shutting down in the city core.

here are more links to check out.... my heart goes out to you all.

so apparently i just found out that today was declared international peace day by the united nations. what a farce that has become. getting news is still quite difficult through internet news sources, so i have resorted to getting accounts of nyc from various bloggers in the city, luckily all of them have survived.

i'm at a lost for words as i sit here right now. the shivers and the goosebumps are crawling all over me as i hear the news one by one, hit after hit. it is saddening and crazy. and who knows what will become of this. the ramifications of such a terrorist attack are mind boggling. and to think people on the west coast are just waking up now to hear the news. what is even scarier is that i was at the world trade center just over a month ago. we were staying across the street from it at mellenium hilton, we were enjoying krispy kreme donuts and browsing the borders books. tears are coming to my eyes and even here in toronto people are concerned big time. when i first heard of the news an hour ago it really didn't hit me, but now, this is a serious threat.

so i'm sitting here at reception waiting for naomi to get in and reading choire's story of sexual tension on east west, when steve, a fellow employee walks up to me and tells me, what will definitely be the story of the day on most blogs. apparently a small plane has crashed into the world trade center in manhatten. incredible, i am really dumb founded.

5:25 gould & bond

i'm sittinq outside the image arts building at ryerson, i think this is the right one, drinking an ice cappuccino, eating a bluberry fritter and smpking a dunhill before i head in for my first class. have not clue what kind of people will end up in my class, there is still quite a number of daytime students milling about, which is a nice distraction.

mmm blueberry fritter.

i'll have to remember to use the loo before i look for the classroom. gee i'm stilling here and i realize how much of a geek i am. now i need to figure out if i should sit right up front, which would make me a keener or if i shou;d sit near the back, ehich would make me a slacker. probably near the middle, hopefully near a cutie or two. another couple of drags and i should be ready to go. eeks,i'm officially nervous, the campus is so familiar, yet it all feels very new. gotta jet, i need to scout thing out, before going in.

i bet i will make friends with the smokers in the class first..scratch that.. .i'm qonna make friends with a girl first...

6:05 loser

me being a bigtime keener failed to realize that my class actually starts at 6:30, not 6:00. so needless to say i have twenty minutes to kill. maybe i'll go over to sam the recod man and see, if anyone has bought the vyletz cd.

7 cds at the store... wow

so i'm sittinq in the dead centre of the classroom. there are 8 of us so far, 3 females, 5 males, 1 female instructor. time to put the pilot away.

morning update: by the end of class i was in a hot sweat and throwing up i hope that is not an indication of how thing will be for the term. so i went to bed way early.
