music go round check out this article from now magazine, this show truly was as great as Kim Hughes says it was.
Quietly riveting in the round Andy Stochansky's new songwriters series gets a dazzling start
By Kim Hughes
there was no mistaking the look of astonishment on Andy Stochansky's face when the singer/songwriter -- along with guest performers Mia Sheard, Graham Powell, Danny Michel and Maury LaFoy, who was sitting in for the out-with-the-flu Lorraine Segato -- walked onto Ted's stage and was greeted by a full house on its way to standing room only.Launching a Monday-night residency in frigid January is a daring move, so it was easy to understand why the tremendous turnout was an unexpected source of joy to the players, guitarists and singers all, who promptly arranged themselves on chairs and dived into what was one of the best songwriters-sitting-around gigs ever.
All are gifted writers, each able to crisply and succinctly render life's littlest moments in neon. As they took turns presenting their material -- with the exception of Powell's and maybe LaFoy's most of it either haunting or haunted -- it was fascinating to zone in on their idiosyncrasies. How did Stochansky know to end a song like that? How does Sheard present a song so new that she has to read the lyrics from a notebook and still manage to conjure world-weariness?
The show also soared on chemistry. Michel plays with LaFoy in Starling; Powell plays with LaFoy in the Supers; Michel and Stochansky are mates who've toured together; and Sheard, as she wryly informed us, took improv classes. The zingers came early and often and they almost never missed their mark. But in the end the music was the thing.
Michel, the wittiest and most vocal between songs, raised gooseflesh with a defiantly plaintive Christmas song he'd scratched out in the last few weeks. Watching the class clown morph into the storyteller in the space of 30 seconds was a powerful thing. Michel -- who, like the others, absent-mindedly added backing vocals and guitar to the other's pieces -- ever so quietly brought down the house.
Next Monday's lineup includes Ron Sexsmith and Jian Ghomeshi. Expect the queue to start Sunday.

songwriter's circle so last night i braved the cold and risked the fatigue to go check out the songwriters night at ted's wrecking yard. the artist on hand included andy stochansky, graham powell, mis sheard, danny michel and maury lafoy. it was definitely worth checking out. the put on an amazing round robin show which packed the house, on a monday night.
now have can it be that i like these artist and limp biscuit too. he is really beginning to grow on me.

madonna i was just thinking about if went to the supers' xmas show a couple of weeks ago and ended up meeting mike myers, that would place me in the two degrees of separation to madonna. that would have been cool. right now i think i am at about 3 degrees of separation me - emm gryner - david bowie - madonna. that must be right i am pretty sure bowie and maddy have met at some point. geeze they are both in the same biz.
hmmm strange i think i have stars in my eyes.
people in music whom i would love to have coffee with; madonna, sarah mclachlan or dolores o'riordan.strangely enough no guys are on the list, but madonna can invite rupert everett along if she likes, but i dunno about britney spears, i think we should leave her at home.
maybe i'll just head down to the freetimes cafe and have a drink with my friend lindi, she is playing there tonight and she is gonna be doing song on guitar and on piano, for the very first time. if you are there be sure to request beautiful boys, it is a new song that she just finishing writing last night, so i haven't even heard it yet.

swingers so i am cruising a couple of my favorite sites and catching their waves to others sites and i end up on kurt swinghammer's site. i knew kevin fox was a musical slut, but by all means he is a virgin in comparison to kurt swinghammer. aside from being in the local indie music scene for about 2 decades, this guy is so multi talented. singer | songwriter | producer | session musician | artist ... the list just goes on and on. and if you think i am just huffing and puffing about something i read online, i have experienced the power of the swinghammer. i've seen him play live on several different occasions and he is one of the most amazing guitarists i have ever seen.
anyways, while on his site, i check out his upcoming dates and then notice that there is a short scribble about the supers' xmas show, the night after tamara williamson's xmas show (hell half the musician played both nights). my jaw drops as it reads, michael myers was in the house. nothing says suburban scarborough, better than mike myers (aka wayne's world) well maybe of course the barenaked ladies.

poe: haunted after strong recommendation from my friend kare baer, this past holiday season, i purchased poe's lastest release, haunted. i have been listening to it non-stop since last night. it is innovative, with great production work and vocals. the title, reflects the album well as a whole, being beautifully creepy and haunted. i want to run to a record store right now, to get her previous efforts.
