WTC & Pro-Peace Vigils
There are vigils in morning and rememberance taking place across the country. We are all struggling to come to grips with disaster. Indymedia New York City has some very good coverage of the reaction in their city.

There has been a lot of debate about what we should do. What should "America" do. What we must not do is react to violence with more violence. To answer hate with hate and racism. To do so would defile the very concepts of freedom, democracy, and civilization. Racist killing in revenge will bring no honor to our dead.

The politicians also want to use this horrific act to scrap our democratic civil liberities. They want to out law encryption, to monitor everything we say, to infilitrate every opposition group, to use racial profiling. These acts could represent the death of the american consitution.

September 20th - National Day of Action Against The War and For Justice

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." - Ghandi

WTO - N9
Their last ministerial was the comming out party for the anti-globalization movement. This time they are holding their meeting in Qatar, a tiny, remote Arabian state ruled by a repressive absolute monarchy. There will be a global day of action against the WTO, corporate globalization and neoliberalism and for humanity.

SOA - N16
The US Army School of Americas (SOA), based in Fort Benning, Georgia, trains Latin American soldiers in combat, counter-insurgency, and counter-narcotics. Graduates of the SOA are responsible for some of the worst human rights abuses in Latin America. Every year there is massive civil disobecence at the base calling for it to be shut down.

G8 ALBERTA
Over 200,000 people confronted the G8 at their meeting in Geona, Italy. Yet the G8 hasn't disolved or enacted any substantive change in it's policies. For their next meeting in June 2002 the G8 is retreating to a remote rocky mountain hide a way of Kananaskis, Alberta. It seems the G8 has forgot about how the ewoks can outsmart the imperial riot cops on our home turf.

    Telekomas hits democracy in Lithuania
    [ Call For Action, Indirect ] [ Globalization & Imperialism ] [ Europe ]
The situation in Lithuania these days, especially, while talking about telecommunications, is desperate. "Amber Teleholding", which consists of joint business involving Finnish "Sonera" and Swedish "Telia", representing itself as "Lietuvos Telekomas" in Lithuania, which is currently holding monopoly providing Internet and datacom services, doesn’t seem to be interested in changing its tariff and billing policies.

Emergency Day of Action against Fast Track in August!!!
    [ Call For Action, Indirect ] [ Food & Agriculture ] [ USA Nationwide ]
As of Wednesday, July 25, it is still unclear whether a vote on Fast Track will happen before the August Recess, which starts August 4 (although it is looking less likely at this particular moment). President Bush needs Fast Track to get the FTAA, a new round of the WTO, and other trade agreements through Congress. If we lose this fight, we will lose a lot of the ground we have gained over the last two and a half years.

Do you wish you had time to write more letters protesting injustice?

Check out the Progressive Secretary, they'll write and send letters based on which issues you're conserned about. They're really cool, I've been using them for a while and am really impressed with both the quality of the letters and politics behind them.

Protest.Net is a site to help progressive activists by providing a central place where the times and locations of protests and meetings can be posted. I can't possibly keep up with all the actions, so if you find about a protest or meeting, please post that information. Since June 1998 protest.net has listed 84111 events and we currently have 4466 upcoming events on our calendars. Feel free to email us, rabble-rouser@protest.net if you have any questions or comments.
