Bob Dylan The Essential Bob Dylan
(Columbia)
Many have tried to sum up Bob Dylan's career in one succinct package, but it's awfully difficult to do. With a career spanning four decades, from the dawn of the '60s to the dawn of the millennium, Dylan these days is more likely to resemble "Star Wars"' long-lived Yoda than the political prophet he once was.

But the CD "Essential Bob Dylan" offers a nice overview of remastered Dylan favorites, from the innocent "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" to the searching "Gotta Serve Somebody." It can't be forgotten that Dylan changed the face of rock 'n' roll, influencing everyone from the Beatles to the Beastie Boys and beyond. This is a nice reminder of that fact, though true fans won't be pleased until every song Dylan ever wrote is released in one gigantic box set. - Don't Think Twice 400 K WAV sound

Golden Globes The nominations for "Wonder Boys" also include best actor for Michael Douglas, best song for "Things Have Changed" by Bob Dylan, and best screenplay for Steve Kloves.

Director Curtis Hanson said the attention was gratifying considering the movie failed at the box office last February. "Wonder Boys" returned to theaters this fall to help boost its awards prospects.

"It got a lot of people talking about it again," Hanson said. As for the movie's Oscar chances, he laughed and said, "One step at a time. One step at a time."

UA senior new Rhodes Scholar

The eldest of Tim and Carol Tuggle's three children combines a love of literature and philosophy with a love of music. Tuggle's main musical interest is Bob Dylan, a singer and songwriter who is himself something of a philosopher.

"Dylan is one of my abiding interests," Tuggle said. "I'm working on a paper right now exploring Dylan's philosophy."
