Ugh. There is an awful computer virus going around. I got my first "copy" last week, because the virus found my name in a Texas bootmaker's e-mail/address book. It's been showin' up in my e-mail box at least a couple of times a day ever since. It's a kinda sneaky because it makes looks like your downloading a MSWord file or a webpage...instead of a file ending with ".exe". The file's up to no good. If you get a copy, I'd recommend you delete it, then go to your trash or recycle bin and delete it again...off your hard drive...permanently.The e-mail may be from someone you know, and the text of the message will look like this:
Hi! How are you?
I send you this file in order to have your advice.
See you later. Thanks

I hate my car...it's just like commuting in Apollo 13. It's got a hundred switches and dials and there's only a 50/50 chance any of them will work on a given day. Last night I ripped off the decayed leather steering wheel cover... the one that sticks to my hands and bugs me every summer. I was picking all the stitches out with a knife, when the neighbor kids all piled in the back seat. They wanted to listen to the radio, so I turned it up loud, and we opened the windows to let some of the twang out. (I live in a kinda loud, kinda rap-hip-hop-motown kinda neighborhood.)"Oh! I know who this is! It's that bald guy with the really big concerts!"
"No, you're thinking of Garth Brooks."
"Oh, yeah."
"This is Buck Owens. He's from Bakersfield"
"Where's that?"
"Part way to L.A."
...and then they wrestled around some more on the backseat 'til one got a nosebleed and we all had to stop.

I'm sorry to pass along some sad news. Bootmaker, Paul Wheeler passed away this morning. He was 83, and died peacefully at home with his family. My good thoughts go out to his family, and those of you who were close to him. I know he will be greatly missed.Paul Wheeler is survived his son, Dave Wheeler at...

Phew. I swear this time of year, changing the clock is the next best thing to gettin' a tax refund check. Daylight...I love it.(I've been really busy lately. I've been going up to Michael Anthony's bootshop on Fridays. Friday used to be my day at home to work on my web page, get caught up on phone calls...stuff like that. I'm feelin' like I'm stretched a little thin.)

To say that Michael Anthony's motto is "...measure twice, cut once" would be a gross understatement. No eye-ballin' or thumbnails allowed. He's a maniac for details. He's got at least five or six different lining leathers he uses for his boots. He picks a different one depending on the top and vamp material, color, price, weight of the boot...stuff like that.Michael Anthony: Some people would call me...ummm, what's the word..?
JJ: ...anal
Michael Anthony: Yeah that's it. I'm anal.
JJ: Yep.

I'm gonna go up to Michael Anthony's boot shop today. I packed up my tools last night....I could use a cup of coffee.

Well...it's 10:00. I have no idea what to expect from that press release. I faxed a copy to my mom..that's a sure bet for at least one call. My e-mail's down, so my message letting the bootmakers know I got my front page updated is sitting uncomfortably in my outbox right now. Waitin'....ugh.
