Double standards for parent murderers -- Have you heard that NOW (National Organization for Women) is putting together a legal defense fund and has announced that they are standing by in support of Andrea Yates, the mother who drowned her children? SHE is the true victim here, they say. This article is a good comparison of the acts of Ms. Yates and Nikolay Soltys, the Ukrainian who murdered his family last week, and the double standard being used to measure the two similar cases.
Woman tears partner's testicles out during row -- Wow! What an article -- kinda scary! The doctors had never seen anything like this. One more hazard to pre-marital cohabitation, I guess.
No drugs, no condoms -- Great firsthand parents' perspective on homeschooling, directly refuting the recent TIME magazine article on the same subject. Thursday, August 9
SUV rams home, kills dog, hurts woman -- Amazing story! Imagine this Jeep pummelling through your house, barely missing your kid, stopping when it runs into your stairs, kicking into reverse, crushing the couch your kid had just been on, running over the family dog, and then stopping once it gets outside. You won't be seeing this on a Jeep commercial anytime soon!
NAACP as a left-wing tool -- Here is a young African-American man's realization that the NAACP is no longer the organization of bygone days to be lauded for its help in furthering African-American rights but is instead simply a left-wing tool to be used and abused by the Democratic Party.
President has a heart worth bragging about -- GW has a resting heart rate of 43 beats per minute, which means that his heart is in fabulous condition. That's lower than the heart rates of most, if not all, professional athletes. His heart rate is compared to that of triathlons, mountain climbers, and rowers. He's also cited as having the "blood pressure of a teenager."
I, Bill Clinton -- Big news: the $10 million book deal by Clinton that just hit the news is actually 5 MONTHS OLD! Here's a nice spoof article, suggesting titles for his book. Also, read further down for an interesting piece that suggests that the increase in shark attacks is directly related to a government-sponsored shark repopulation effort. Wednesday, August 8
Nudist burned while fire-walking files lawsuit -- The craziest lawsuits have been filed lately. Picture a firewalk at the National Convention of Nudists. That's funny in and of itself. Well, not if you were one of the 7 nude people who went to the hospital with severe burns to your feets. "They said it was safe" -- likely excuse! Tuesday, August 7
Judge orders parents to support 50-year-old son -- Only in California! A family court judge has ordered a couple to support their 50-year-old son with payment of $3500 a month. The wild part is that the son is a Stanford grad with a law degree, who practiced family law for 19 years. Now, he's having problems with depression and bipolar disorder, and he's used a California statute to get a court to require his parents to cover his living expenses. The son originally brought suit against his parents for $11,000 per month, which included college tuition for his children. At least the court lowered the amount! But I still can't believe this is happening.
A White House On the Range -- It annoys me how the liberals are acting like GW is out taking a 30-day European vacation away from it all, and that he's a do-nothing, sleep-all-day president. We finally have a President who realizes that life isn't based in the Beltway and lives like it. I appreciate that. But, also, to act like Bush is away from it all, when he will be in daily briefings and meetings and will be flying out to meetings nationwide during these 30 days, is hilarious. Give the guy a break -- he's doing it right!
Cop Reportedly Admits to DWI -- The saddest things happen in New York City. This pregnant woman, her unborn son delivered by Caesarean section, her 4-year-old son, and her sister were all run over by a policeman drunk on the way to work. Reports are now showing that the light for the policeman had to have been red, but he kept going anyway. At the scene, he blew 0.21 into a breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit. But, believe it or not, the judge has released him in his own custody with no bail. Monday, August 6
Man Going After Wind-Blown Baseball Cap Falls 85 Feet Into Volcano Crater - from Tampa Bay Online -- Just the headline of this story makes it worth reading. Quote from a park ranger: "Park railings are there for a reason." Ha!
1 Mayor, 2 Guys, 1 Shih Tzu -- New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has moved in with two gay men. Doesn't that sound like the plot of a sitcom? This man has so many problems -- from his marital wreckage to his prostate cancer -- and this interview with his new roommates just adds a laugh to the whole situation. Here's a quote from one of them: "Gay people are very clean. But Rudy is very clean, too. He makes his own bed." WHAT? Is this reality? There's a definite gay political slant to this article, but it's worth the read for a good laugh.
Protesting tourists take hotel manager hostage -- Here's a new idea. These British tourists took the manager of their hotel in Spain hostage in protest of the conditions at his hotel. They reported ants in the food, animals bones and condoms in the pool, cockroaches in the bedrooms, and other substandard conditions. The police had to be called out to calm down the tourists after the manager barricaded himself in his office for two hours. Friday, August 3
Nominee for laziest columnist -- This Denver Post columnist has 4 columns to write per week. This week, he was gardening and completely forgot to write his Monday column. Whoops! But he made up for it by writing his Wednesday column about how he forgot his Monday column, and then writing his Friday column about how proud of himself he was for remembering to write his Wednesday column. This guy is obviously out of material!
No Judge Ito -- For you lawyers out there, here's a case from a judge who doesn't mince words. Federal Judge Kent, from the Southern District of Texas, wrote this case, mocking the attorneys who worked on the case. While I have read cases where the judge rips into the attorneys for bad lawyering, I have never seen a case where the criticism continues through the entire case in such a funny fashion. I would hate to have been one of the lawyers on this case.
Weavers Discover Condoms Smooth As Silk -- The Indians (as in the country) have figured out the true value of a government-sponsored condom distribution program. Free lubricant for weavers' needles! Apparently, condom lubricant is the best found so far to make sure needles glide smoothly without causing yarn breakage. And it's free! Thursday, August 2
VHEMT: The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement -- "May we live long and die out" is the motto of this (possibly hoax) group of individuals who have chosen to stop breeding in order to help the human race become extinct and allow Mother Earth to return to her natural, pre-human state of good health. Really funny site! Monday, July 30
Waitress sues Hooters restaurant over toy Yoda -- A Florida Hooters waitress is suing her employer. She won a beer-selling contest, and thought she'd won a new Toyota. Actually, it was a "toy Yoda" -- get it? She's not too happy about the deal, and is suing for the car. Oh, please.
Case of the Flaming Pop-Tart -- A woman is suing Kellogg's because her house burned down after she left the house with a Pop-Tart in the toaster. Everyone who has been through 1st year law school Torts class is now applying the "but for" test: "But for the Pop-Tart, the house would not have burned down?" I think not. Pop-Tart boxes actually have a warning to not leave the toaster unattended. It should actually go, "But for the lady leaving the house with the toaster running, the house would not have burned down." She also sued the toaster company, but I'm betting any court would hold for the defendants in this action. Friday, July 27
Raccoon attacks boy in bed -- First there was JAWS! Then, PIRANHA! The next animal disaster movie to hit theaters -- RACCOON! Tuesday, July 24
Water to Flow in Klamath Basin -- The Klamath Falls farmers have won a partial victory. The Department of the Interior will be releasing 75,000 acre feet of water into the irrigation system needed by the farmers there. Of course, now it's really too late to do much with that farm land this year. The Interior Department claims that it has discovered extra water in the Klamath Basin -- yeah, right. I think they didn't want a real legal battle with the farmers.
Man dies while breaking into own home -- Wow, this is random and sad! A Sunrise Beach, Missouri man somehow died while apparently breaking a window to get into his locked house. Electrical workers saw blood on a broken window and tracked it inside to the homeowner dead on the floor. That's sad! But how does that happen?
Carter criticizes Bush performance -- OK. Who is Jimmy Carter to be criticizing Bush's presidential performance? What nerve! Jimmy Carter is commonly ranked by historians around number 30 out of 40 as far as presidential job performance goes. And that things he criticizes! He accuses Bush of pandering to the far right of conservatives and avoiding the middle, but everything Jimmy mentions is far from a middle-ground issue. His views are on the left, and he's just joining the ranks of the left in moaning and groaning. Poor Jimmy -- I feel sorry that he made such a fool of himself.
Assault With A Weapon charge for 17-year-old water balloon thrower -- This is every high schooler's nightmare -- caught doing something stupid on the last day of school. Now this kid has to go to court over throwing a water balloon that supposedly hit a teacher on accident.
Alderman Irene Smith cited for public urination -- What do you do if you're in the middle of a filibuster in the St. Louis city council and have you to go pee? Just wrap a blanket around yourself and sit on a garbage can! Oh, my! This is a crime in St. Louis, and she's going to be held accountable for it and make national news at the same time. Hilarious!
Teen sex linked to divorce? -- A new British study of 2000 teenagers ages 13-15 has found that teenagers are twice as likely to engage in underage sex if their parents are separated or cohabiting rather than married. Also, the kids who reported having a "good" relationship with their parents were less likely to engage in underage sex. Critics are griping that the study is "promoting the nuclear family headed by a heterosexual couple who are married." What's so wrong with that?
Gephardt hints at increase in taxes -- Stop the Democrats, please! Dick Gephardt, in a speech yesterday, announced that if the Democrats take control of Congress again, they are going to raise taxes again. He even touted the 1993 tax increases of the Clinton administration. Do these guys not know how to live within their means? Do they not understand the concept of cutting spending instead of increasing taxes? The Republicans have come out in mass against Gephardt on this one. |
