This blog update brought to you by Bucky, sarcastic sister and ass-kicker.

I've been informed by a friend that the Justice League never included Spiderman. The management apologizes for the previous error.

I went to see Poe the other night. Standing at the foot of the stage, trying my best to soak up even a tiny fraction of her energy and self-confidence, I was struck by how often we search outside ourselves for something we feel we're lacking. I wonder if this is why people continue to feel empty and incomplete. Aside from her superstar status, I do have to say that Poe is an amazingly powerful, vibrant, succulent wild woman.

How, you may be wondering, can you afford to go to concerts when you have been unemployed for a month and still have no job prospects on the horizon!?

Ahh...the magic of the credit card. I figured it was worth $20 for the catharsis that her music can bring.

I am utterly disgusted by the recent events in Genoa, Italy.

If you, too, are not disgusted...then you really ought to re-evaluated your thought processes.

Oh, did I mention to you that I saw most of the Justice League? No, really. Superman, Spiderman, Batman and Robin.

The four boys, apparently quadruplets, were dressed to the hilt, their harried mother barely able to contain their six year-old, superhero energies.

Some people swear they'd never let their kids out of the house like that. But imagine for a moment...four six year-old boys, probably linked by some odd telepathic talent, all clamoring to be superheroes. Do you really have a choice in the matter?

This morning while waiting at Starbucks for my drink to be ready (I know, I'm unemployed and shouldn't be at starbucks, but hey, lay off, it's a comfort thing!), a woman approached the counter next to me. "Pardon me, Sir," she said quietly. "May I get some ice?" She offered a paper cup. I looked. It was an Amish woman, which are relatively scarce here in Oregon.

Wait a minute. An Amish woman? In Starbucks? Not only that, but clutching a cell phone in her right hand?

What is the world coming to...?

Josh offers some advice...

Where did the name 'beth' come from? Where did 'josh' come from? Who am I? Why am I
here? What is the meaning of life? How come Twinkies never grow old -- are
they some higher form of intelligence, impervious to aging which is a fatal
condition to we mere mortals? Will they be taking over the Earth soon, after
decades of remaining dormant waiting for the right moment to attack? How will
we defend ourselves? Will we have special cream-sucking guns crafted by the
weapons industry for the US military? Once the Twinkie aliens are destroyed,
what will we do with all those leftover cream-sucking guns? Will they be
turned against us, or used as a male stimulant device? Will they eventually
replace the need for women, in the same way that science has replaced the need
for men? And if we don't need them, and they don't need us, will the world
divide not into two hemispheres but into two genderspheres, with women forming
their own nation where masculinity is illegal, and men forming their own nation
where feminity is illegal? And if so, which hemisphere will last longest
before choking on its own pollution and nuclear weapons? And if the men
destroy themselves first, and all that is left is the women, then shouldn't we
be starting to treat you nice *now* so that when the time comes we few
remaining men will be allowed salvation in your land?

So tell that lousy good-for-nothing man of yours Jeremie that he better start
acting nice to you NOW because after the Twinkie Wars and the Great Gender
Divide and the Male Bomb hits and his gendersphere is destroyed, that he better
have someone to vouch for him in WomanWorld when he wants in.

Another one bites the dust...

One transition heaped upon another...and now my contract is over. I have some leads on new ones, though, and I'm not feeling like I'm going to have to live on the streets or anything. But really, Mr. Universe...couldn't you have chosen a time other than when I'm weaning myself off anti-depressants and my boyfriend of nearly two years is finally finding the courage to move in with me? Enough is enough!

Roll with it, baby....

Blurring the lines between real life and the movies.... I mean, really, Harrison. Don't you think you get enough action onscreen?

Lucky girl. :)

The help desk boys have discovered O Brother Where Art Thou.

As a result, they can't stop singing, playing and otherwise broadcasting Man of Constant Sorrow.

These are the same people who have their incoming mail sound in Outlook set to AOL's You've Got Mail!.

I *like* that song. I wonder if I still will after they're done with it.

I stopped on my way to work this morning to watch the progress of a small spider who was in the process of spinning what seemed an excessively large web. I wondered for a moment if spiders have any sense of size...or if they simply build within the boundaries of what's possible in that location. Does this tiny spider know he has a web larger than a wolf spider's? Does he care? Or is it a source of spider-pride to have the biggest house in the neighborhood. Does he have to have spider-maids to keep it clean? Or will he still fastidiously remove any non-edible debris himself?

I envied that spider. Not for the size of his house, but for his clear, unadulterated sense of purpose in his life.

Excuse me while I go back to my data entry.

I spent the most luscious evening yesterday.

I was stolen away to Sauvie Island, a small island which sits in the Columbia river about 20 minutes outside of Portland. It is a huge Wildlife Management area as well as a large farming community. You can pick produce, watch birds or animals, or lie around on the beach and swim in the river. We brought a picnic and soaked up the evening sun and laughed endlessly.

Such gifts are precious...and priceless.
